  1. I used spacers. It lined up exactly as you said on my car. Just used some steek spacers about 20 mm on each side. Has been perfect ever since.
  2. Isnt that just the standard thermostat housing? Looks like the one I replaced a while ago.... Got it from either repco or nissan.
  3. speak for yourself thanks george. im not replying from toorak 'mate'.
  4. ouch.
  5. Um, well, i just spotted a speed camera that i was unaware of today, and I'm pretty sure I went through it at around 160-180 last week. So if that comes through and I lose my licence and my job as a driver, I will be looking at selling in the next month or two. I wouldnt sell it until I have the tripples set up to perfection, atm its still very quick, but is rich under power, and lean at idle. I would be expecting about 18K with the system, or 17K without, you really would need to pick over the car with a fine toothed comb to appreciate it, there really isnt any rust, and almost all parts are new. Have a look in my gallery to get an idea. Sulio, I wasnt talking about parts that had been broken due to thrashing the beast, I dont drive her like that. Im talking about parts seazing up because my car has been off the road being restored the the last 20 years. Parts like fuel pumps and thermostat housings...etc, it all had to be replaced.
  6. have to agree with evan. im 18, had my licence for 6 months, and my 240 for 2 years. For the same price I really wish I had bought a worked skyline or 300zx. As a daily driver, you have to be ready for all sorts of mechanical things to die. As im sure I've previously mentioned, my diff is now the only part on my car i havent had to service. BUT, these cars do attract attention, especially if they have worked engines etc. And if you're thinking of doing the typical 18yr old thing by putting a system in it, then they are an awsome car for that. my advise is to look around and see what you are really after. a super classy car? or a super quick car, coz i promise you will get hammered by skylines that cost half as much. or you could buy my 240 which could be for sale soon
  7. well, my first car was some rust-bucket datsun. nah, I got my 240 a couple of years ago when i was 16, it was completely rust free.... no jokes. It had had heaps of engine money spent by the previous owner who was a panel beater. I spent 2 years slowly restoring the interior and other parts with my mum, until at the start of this year, I got to the point where the only unreplaced or serviced part was the diff, everyother part was basically brand new. I spent a fair bit on my sound system, as any 18yr old should, and drive her as a daily driver. I have now come to the realisation though, that a classic car with tripple carbs for an 18 yr old probly isnt suitable, and I'm going to sell her if I get the right offer.
  8. but he had the bad feedback rating before you bought from him? doesnt make a heap of sense, if they have bad feedback, expect bad service.
  9. what model gsxr you got ben? any info you need i would be happy to help, dad works for suzuki bikes.
  10. You adjust the float heights by taking out the float, and taking out that hinge pin, and bending the metal part near the hinge, hard to explain, but it will all be obvious once you have the float out and see what keeps it at that height.
  11. Keep us posted on how you go linking the linkage kit to the original throttle linkakes. It can be quite hard getting it perfect so that you have full throttle at close to foot-to-the-floor.

    Tapet Adjustment.

    Tapet Adjustment.

feeler gauges is what they're called, you will need 0.018 mm on the intake, and 0.025 on the exhaust from memory, but dont quote me, refer to your manual, it has all the info there.

    Tapet Adjustment.

they have nuts to lock them in place from memory
  16. easily THE most perfect zed on the planet!
  17. I have both tried and failed to put a throttle cable onto my 240, when I bought my car it came without linkages or carbs, and it also came with what I thought was a 350 or 450 holley, it turned out to be a 750. After buying a set of twin hitachis, I still thought it would be best to try the cable set up, after trying to mount it on the rocker cover, I realised that the semi circle piece that sits on the end of the throttle shaft would have to be far too big to get proper throttle range. So I decided to go to linkages straight away and in a few minutes, had a perfect throttle system.
  18. david, what would you recommend for a warm 240 with a lumpy cam and shaved head? I'm pretty sure i have drilled the jets out to mains of 150 and idles of 50, but i just cant get the revs to climb up to 2500 rpm.
  19. I bought them off 240ZR, which is not to be mistaken wish ash. I had to replace the top part of one of the carbs as it had been broken where the float pin was, and a nail had replaced the float pin. approx $120 I had to replace all gaskets and all needles and seats. aprox $80 I had to replace 2 of the idle jets, as they didnt match the other 4. and I have also drilled out the main jets about 0.4 mm and the idle jets about 0.2 mm. Still having a fair bit of trouble with them, but this tool should give me an idea of what the air:fuel mixture is like. I dont know how anyone that isnt a mechanic would be able to put tripple carbs on there own car, as the only person I have been directed to quoted me at least $1000 to jet them properly.
  20. front windscreens are aprox. $140 at windscreens o'brien. or you can insure your car as a restoration with shannons, for about $50 a year, which gives you a free windscreen replacement every year, which you can use straight away, I had to do it with my car after the "mechanics" at zshop broke my brand new one.
  21. does anyone have approximate jet sizes for tripple 40mm dellorto's onto a warm L24? i have recently bought some, and had to spend heaps getting them up to scratch, as the seller on this forum talked shit about their quality. I am having trouble getting the mixtures right, and am really struggling at getting the revs to climb when below 3000 rpm. The old man bought a really good tool from the US to give me air:fuel mixtures amongst other things over a 40 minute test drive, so I should be able to sort it out when I get my radiator replaced, but I was juts hoping some people had some input as to approximate idle and main jet sizes for 40 mm dellorto's. cheers, Jack.
  22. which one is ash able to get his hands on evan? is it the same one that was on nigels car? i've always really wanted that one, but when I got a new front bumper I became too content.
  23. far out, i hope they fit, coz she's already got a good set of diamond ones. did 260's also have the diamond on the transmission tunnel and on the vertical panel behind the seats?
  24. will 240 strut tower vynil fit my mums '75 2seater?
  25. there are mixture screws underneath the carbs from memory. if its doing it when its cold, its probly lean?
