  1. well.....id be voting for multiple options.. defiantely diamond vinyl kits, powdercoated/polished rocker covers and R200 LSD's. defiantely a parts component of the club would be helpful for me with the old ladies zed.
  2. no...the cars always had a manual, but it had to be taken out for reco.
  3. well...my diagnosis was sort of right, i made a tool up on the lathe to simulate the gearbox shaft so i could line up the clutch as i bolted it on....but wen i went to put the tool through the clutch and into the block i realised that there was heaps of slack around the tool...so after a short look I came to the realisation that my gearbox had been put in without a spigot bush by my PO alowing the gearbox shaft to move at least 5mm each way. so after going to repco and installing the bush, i went on to put the gearbox back in and go for a test drive. Success! problems gone and clutch is beautiful. so, i guess we can all just add that experience to our archives of friken stupid previous owners. cheers, JP
  4. yeah well with any luck i'll get my licence and have a fully functional clutch. am looking forward to my first viczcar meeting.
  5. well......i went and ordered a heavy duty clutch kit from repco prior to pulling the gbox. only to find that my PO had installed a brand new clutch once id pulled the gbox and clutch out. so....the clutch isnt worn or damaged... but the thrust bearing is noisy and the clutch isnt disengaging fully.... after thinking about this dilemma for a while, i thought, could these problems have been caused by a slightly misaligned clutch? Could a perfect thrust bearing be made noisy by misalignment issues. ive concluded yes. and the gbox and clutch will go back in tomoro.... oh an by the way....neva do something stupid like pull a gbox on new years day....coz those things that roll you under the car are really easy to fall asleep on. cheers, Jack.
  6. thanks nato. i tried to eliminate all other problems before taking the gearbox off, but its the only way. where would be the best place to go for a heavy duty clutch kit? cheers, Jack.
  7. okay...ive measured the stroke im getting at the slave cylinder. its at 10mm and I dont think that's anywhere near enough. just wondered if anyone could tell me what stroke they are getting with a fully functional clutch. cheers
  8. My old man's 6'6 and he fits in and drives my 240 fine. and by the way....6'4 is not near 2 metres tall. it's about 193cm. hope that helps.
  9. ive wanted a 240z since i was about 8 years old. so since 15 ive been working reguarly at casual jobs saving for my zed. originally i'd planned to have a bike when i turned 18 as well....but the zed threw that out the window as expenses climbed. So i guess i was one of those who saved about 15000 before they started their z project, and now after buying my sound system ive got none left to spare lol. hope that settles a few views about the hardworking younger generation lol. cheers, Jack.
  10. im having real problems with the clutch in my 240z. i think that the problem is the clutch not fully engaging, as it crunches in a big way when changing into first or reverse from standstill....it is at the point now where after putting the seal kit into the master cylinder and a new slave cylinder....the car is undriveable. could this be due to a worn clutchplate? im also hearing noises that i think are coming from the clutch bearing if that helps in the diagnosis. any advice on this would be super. the car is sooooo close to being finished for my licence and this is the last hurdle. so....i will leave the diagnosis to the zed enthusiasts of victoria. dont hesitate to throw anything out there. ps...i have been unable to gather from the PO whether or not the clutch was reco'd with the gbox and engine. i think it hasnt due to the bearing sounds. thanks in advance, Jack.
  11. i agree with all previous statements.....bith cars have been for sale foreva...the purple one looks like one big problem....and the widening kit makes it look disgusting from behind...the green one looks like a nice example....i used that interior as a basis for mine. Rust would be the main issue with that one i would think. good luck with ur search....and im sure ur budget will allow you to pick up an awesome zed. cheers, JP.
  12. no i havnt Sulio, i didnt know they existed....wasnt too bothered...but if u no where i can get them and what they're called, i will definately look into it.
  13. doors could be moved to sit at around 8 mm...or halfway in between. How much higher did the bonnet sit than the guard, and from what ive seen, its very common for zeds to have alignment issues in the front end.....i suppose they only need one front on crash in their 35 years to unsettle them.
  14. i saw this car at the concourse the other week...it definately is an awsome car. The colour scheme of the interior is a little 'out there', but the quality is really something to be noticed. good luck with it.
  15. lol...just having a go at u guys...and yes..a 2+2 is better than no Z.
  16. I'd suggest that you keep an eye on the tradingpost and carsales.com.au. watch out for anything with rust and 2+2's  . there are some nice zeds in these advertisers if you wait for the right ones. good luck with your search. Cheers, JP.
  17. Excuses, excuses Sulio. Umm... im having some problems with my clutch not always fully engaging...not sure if its worn clutch plate or badly sealing master cylinder. And just fixed my cooling problem by getting radiator flushed.
  18. well the l26 in it sounds alright...so i dont think she'll be replacing it in hurry....dads keen on a big block but i think a warm 350 would be nice....but nothing beats the sound of a big block. I think she'll restore to relative originality before she starts messing with it too much... And thanks...i love my car how it is. I think the chromed taillight surrounds really set of the rear of the car and a fresh front bumper also adds to it. But the sound is the main attraction.....way loud. Cheers, Jack
  19. Yes Mr Camoflage....it certainly helps having a mum that can help you work on ur car . And not quite evan....i had a new roof put onto my 240...have kept it extremely original and it is now on the road..ive added recent pics into my gallery. So we go to pic up the car tonight....taking dad along as he is keen on doing some of the minor body work required. It looks like a great car...and it will make for one awsome driveway lol. Thanks for all ur help. Cheers, Jack

  23. yeah...i realised that he was a no hoper as soon as i read the l24 rods bit...but decided to check it out as mums keen on a V8...but it turns out that he has had a mate doing the mechanicals as he is qualified and he has all reciepts for the work done. But it seems like a great body to me...all sits flush and straight and no rust as far as i can see....and the rust prone spots were fairly visible.. thanks for that info too nzeder...its november or sumthing like that of 75 so it is the later body. cheers, Jack
