  1. No, I was originally going to extend Auszcar.com to cover Fairlady Roadsters and Prince Skylines and 1600's and even thought of covering the 300zx and 350z etc.. However the community wanted to remain pure early "zcar" which I completely understand. So this is a whole new project and new website separate from Auszcar.com but I guess you could think of it as a sister site. I realise not all members will care much for other Japanese cars and some will of course be interested. So I am hoping some members here will decide to join the new site and participate on it like they do here, but I will not be forcing them to move onto the new site. This site will remain as is. Just to make things clear.
  2. Yep, just like Cardomain, but without the "yank tanks" and other stuff that just doesn't interest me . I've been playing with a localhost version, will be trying to get it up and running ASAP, but don't want to rush it. I also find it hard to get the time to spend on it. I'm pretty excited about it though and I think once its launched so will alsot of the members here.
  3. Pretty much exactly what I want to do, but where as japanesenostalgiccar.com is more a website forum and a magazine, mine will be more of a community based website. Users will hopefully (all things going well), be able to - upload images - write forum posts -add to their own blog -customise their user profiles -be able to comment on and rate articles and put together how to guides and even revise existing ones for errors. I have always had a thing for old Japanese cars, it just so happened that the Z was and will forever be my favorite. Although I was seriously looking at RX4's when I was 16-17. Now that I'm older I prefer the RX3 shape. Point being I've always loved these cars and want a website much like this to cater for all. There are several other sites already out there, but I think I can offer something new to the community.
  4. Hey Guys, Thanks for the feedback. I went ahead and registered www.vintagejdm.com last night. I plan to build a website dedicated to Japanese Classic Cars. Much like Auszcar.com, but covering a whole range of cars. The system I'll be using should be flexible enough to filter things based on Make / Model, so if your not interested in anything but Nissan related chat you can filter it that way. I'd like to build a site dedicated to other makes like the Porsche and Merc's but for now I'm going to focus on what I know best and that's Japanese Cars. If things go well I'll consider building sites for those too. I'm currently designing a template to suit the site and still working out the actual system and its abilities. I will say though that so far I'm quite impressed with what's possible. I'll be sure to let everyone know when the new site is ready, and I hope some of you who are also interested in Japanese cars can sign up and get the ball rolling. I'm still not sure if I should keep it as an Australian based site, or open it up to the world. I'm thinking it should be a global based site, since the majority of classic japanese cars are really in Australia more than anywhere else. Unlike the Z which is so saturated in the US market. Does anyone think this would be a bad idea? Oh and does anyone have some other automotive sites that they really like the design of? I have an idea of how I want the site to look, but other ideas can't hurt .
  5. Guys please take a look at this thread on their website. http://www.japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1562 Seems that delivery was sent by ship and as a result is very slow. They mention the problems / issues in the thread above.

    wanted: 240z NSW

There are still a few bargains out there if you are patient enough. However in that price range your generally looking at a basket case. Especially when it comes to a 240z, you might get a nice 260z 2 seater though for around that mark (but even that's getting harder to find). 2+2's are the last true bargain left and even those are in the 11g mark for a very original tidy minimal rust car. Good luck...
  7. Its normal for a Fairlady Z to have 240z style tail lights and a 260z style dash. Ask Mayhem to upload some more shots of his car. How about this bad boy in blue
  8. LOL we will have to call the 240z tail light mod, the Sulio mod. . Actually that is a Fairlady Z, so the "260z" style dash board and interior is quite normal. You see in Japan the models and trim were very different and there is no "240z / 260z" dashboard style or interior rather its all Fairlady with different levels of trim depending on the model. I myself am still no expert, Nzeder (Mike) always has to correct me . However you will find that the different trims may also match different engine specs. Remember Fairlady's in Japan came with the L20 engine in both carb and injected form. The Fairlady ZG had the L24 and the 432 and 432r had the S20's. It can get very confusing, so buy a book from our book store which covers the whole story lol.
  9. Sulio I believe that steering wheel is an optional JDM item. You can still get them. They are the Sports Combo wheel or something like that. I think the gearshift knob is also a Fairlady Z item (not 100% sure though). I think the Compo wheel is great myself.

  11. Yeah 7 sounds like a good number of Zeds to own . To be honest if I had the space / time / money I would buy 7 of them.
  12. Are you going to offer conversion parts? Engine mounts? gearbox mounts? sump modifications?
  13. Hi guys, Thought you might be interested in this. It certainly looks more early Z than the current 350z. To be honest from the picture you can see I quite like it. Time will tell if its a rumor or not. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/blog/2008/05/15/nissan-370z-picture-leaked/ Second pic not so happy http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/blog/2008/03/11/z-car-grows-240z-to-370z-in-38-years/
  14. Hi Matt, That's a good idea, I've not looked into the flickr api but I think it could work well for everyone. You see I'm tossing up between Drupal and Expression Engine. Both are great pieces of software but Drupal allows for integration with Gallery2, Expression Engine has a gallery component but its not designed for all users and multiple albums and categories for each user. Drupal = Very flexible + very complex + steep learning curve. Expression Engine = Very flexible + very user friendly + less learning curve + support Expression Engine comes at a cost though. $250 US for a license and another $50 for a forum component extension. Its not a big cost, but it is one I would have to front.
  15. Hi mate, Yes I want to create a website / forum / portal to cater to all Nostalgic rides. I like Japanese Nostalgic car, but its all mashed together. I would keep everything separate as in a Toyota site a Nissan / Datsun site, a Mazda site etc.. I was going to change Auszcar.com into that, but member feedback dictated that it wasn't what the club wanted. So I'm building another website capable of catering to these other classics. GrandJDM is awesome too and the idea is not to compete with these others sites, but to help preserve and promote these classics, I would view Grandjdm and Japanese Nostalgic Car as partners not competitors and I would hope they would the same.
  16. Hi John, Thanks for the pic - that looks like Steve's RB30-ZED old car so I assume you are the new owner, that was an excellent purchase you could not build that car for the price he was asking. A very good and wise purchase indeed. Tell me about it, had I not been about to leave for an overseas trip, all the cash I had saved would have been splurged on buying that Z . Great Zeds like that come up few and far between. I would have also considered buying Nigel's old Z (NR240) now Sexual Sushi's ride.

    260Z 2+2 5 speed 1977

Great car, I remember reading the article in Unique Cars.
  18. On the contrary I think he's in with a good chance. I haven't seen the car so can't say for sure, but buying a car like this as oppose to a rust bucket will save you heaps. Sometimes though you just have to be patient and lucky. The right buyer isn't always ready. Part of me would like to see the car achieve asking price and part of me hopes 240z prices will stay down a little while longer .
  19. Also if anyone here owns a particular make / model of car that doesn't have a good forum / enthusiast site already, would you be so kind as to let me know what it is? I know for example the Datsun Fairlady Roadster owners Prince Skyline Owners albeit small (50 or so cars) Nissan Silvia (SP13? I'm probably wrong on chassis prefix) don't have a resource of their own websites. I'm thinking of building a website which caters to all these different models on a single domain name say: http://prince.mycarsite.com/ http://fairlady.mycarsite.com/ http://510.mycarsite.com/
  20. Hi Everyone, I posted this in the off topic section, but I figure it still quite heavily related to us and your opinion would be really useful. I have been considering for quite some time to build another automotive website to suit enthusiasts of other makes and models. The idea is to provide a unique site based on make / model, but allow users to move to other sites with the same login details. So for example (just examples - not just limited to Datsun could be Mazda / Toyota): - Datsun Skyline Website - Datsun Fairlady Roadster Website - Datsun 510 Website You could move from one website to the other and login on each. If you register on one, your registered in all of them and free to post contribute where you like. No more creating 100 different login names, forgetting passwords etc.. I have two options of systems I can use to build these websites. What will probably sway me is in relation to having a user gallery. I've noticed that some of our users don't really bother with the gallery here and often rely on 3rd party sites such as photo bucket etc... Do you think a user gallery like the one at http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/ is important on an automotive site such as this, or do you think features such as a forum and regular front page articles are more important?
  21. This is awesome, its exactly what forums like this are about, sharing information on how to save some cash with your restoration / preservation project. You could probably sell a few too. I already bought a set of tail light gaskets for my Z though. Its such a common problem with Zeds and so many of the rubbers have rotted out, causing fumes to seep in and nausiate a driver . I don't even think its an item you could get picked up on concours given that its hidden away under the rear garnish panel. What condition were your old ones in? Any idea if its improved the fume situation?
  22. Nice clean and original looking Z. Not fond of the wheels, but the rest looks very clean and original. http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/DATSUN/240Z/details.aspx?__sid=119326291481&Cr=4&__No=20&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_ImageCount_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime%7C1&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&__Nne=20&State=All%20States&R=5691221&__N=4294966615%200%20834%20285%20257&Make=DATSUN&state_id=0&trecs=52 Anyone seen it yet?
  23. I loved the smoothed look myself, but I'm scared of being tapped in the back by a Toorak Tank! I've had volvo driving soccer mum's hit my car at the front twice, back when I was a broke Uni student working at a video shop. Once they damanged the bonnet, second time the bumper bar. So I'm considering sticking the rear bumper back on. Its a shame cause the Z looks tops shaved around the rear like that.
  24. Good point, I would suggest dropping the vacuum advance and getting the distributor regraphed to suit your camshaft profile. If budget permits, otherwise I guess try Sulio's method. FWIW I don't run a vacuum advance on my Z only mechanical advance.
  25. Gav you can't do it given I sold you my L14 rods given they are hens teeth you just must use these in a good L6 True I mustn't loose sight of the end goal. To build a 300HP N/A L6 .
