  1. Dimitri is correct, early series I 240z's had an E31 high quench chamber head. The series II or late 71 onward had an early E88 head very similar to the E31, maybe slightly larger valves. (Can't recall exact difference). The 260z though also had a E88 head but it was an Open Chamber design (not as high compression).
  2. Hey everyone, Just an off topic post. I recently redesigned my personal blog http://www.gavindoolan.com/ It still has some bugs to iron out. I figured though I'd see what everyone thinks of it so far anyway. I also have a couple of other projects on the go, when I get a chance. But don't worry I'm still dedicated to keeping things running smooth around here .
  3. Ok so was on Ebay and saw this. I know its early days, but still what's more desirable? Honestly The Mitsubishi never won any significant races, it doesn't have the racing pedigree the Z does. Its nowhere near as sexy and well its a Mitsubishi . http://cgi.ebay.com.au/240z-Datsun-1970-71-2-8-Litre_W0QQitemZ110233245668QQihZ001QQcategoryZ2030QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Item id #110233245668 VS http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MITSUBISHI-COLT-GALANT-GTO-rx2-240z-1600-rx3-carolla_W0QQitemZ140215029638QQihZ004QQcategoryZ101895QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Item id #140215029638 Guys our Zeds are worth more!

    Exhaust size

I'm thinking there isn't much point increasing diameter if the rest of the system is only 2". Unless you are planning on going larger in the future of course. I'd probably ask the exhaust shop for their recommendation. Make sure they don't give you a tacky looking exhaust tip! .
  5. Very strange indeed, I've certainly not heard of this problem. The oil breather pipe in the top of the valve cover, how is that? Is it blocked off? Has it been fitted with a K&N style filter? If you block off the oil breather pipe it will cause the engine to build up lots of pressure. Usually this is re-routed into the air filter box but if your carbs have been changed I suppose this could have been blocked off. Is the dipstick in position? I honestly can't think of anything else at this stage. Perhaps a picture of your engine bay will help?

Set of Panasports on her and you'll be laughing.
  7. I saw the post before Lurch edited it. I think he was trying to stop anyone getting upset at what I thought was a relatively harmless jibe . I say harmless because as I understand it you yourself are a V8 Z guy? Anyway we'll see what Lurch has to say.
  8. Hi mate, Took a quick look couldn't get url uploads to work either. I've never used it to upload to the gallery and I'm not sure if other members have. I tried to have a quick look on the Coppermine forums for help, but it appears that the last person with the same error didn't resolve it. http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=50794.msg246791 I know its a pain, but you might have to upload from your PC.
  9. That's cool. To be honest the gallery section is less user friendly than I would like it to be. Changes for the future will be made, some day.
  10. The Gallery can be found at http://www.viczcar.com/gallery
  11. Superb shots and great looking car. Certainly a clean 260z, don't know why the previous guy was selling her after all the work it looks like he put in. Is that a baby seat in the back? For some reason I think this car would look fantastic with chrome trimmed headlight covers . Can you upload her to the gallery?

    EPA made me do it

Hehe I scored 119DB at 4500RPM in my Z Straight pipes. Haven't been done yet but have a backup muffler at home. Just in case
  13. You can get one of these from Kameari for high performance / high revving L-series engines. http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/dt/pd858282 A little expensive :S
  14. Leave the poor thing alone . There arn't that many good Z31's out there to begin with . Just buy the parts you need from Nissan I heard its not that hard to obtain the mounts / sump anyway.
  15. Hi mate, Its definately possible. Are you having trouble keeping up with the latest posts? my modem decided to blow up Sunday, so hoping to have a new one tonight. Might be a while before I can make any changes though. Do you use the latest activity link at the bottom of the forum?
  16. Generally the less rust and better the body condition of a Z the higher its value. If your 2+2 is very straight and from the sound of mechanically good it could get anywhere in the range of $3k - $10k.
  17. Guys I've had to remove a couple of comments due to our terms and conditions set out here: Moderated comment as a result of our website terms and conditions http://www.viczcar.com/Terms-of-Usage.html Number 6. Please let me know if you have any concerns.
  18. I couldn't agree with you more. Nice find on the receivership issue.
  19. I think you are absolutely right, I think that's what I have been trying to say but haven't been able to quite put it that way .
  20. Hi Dazzed, I don't think you need to retract any comments. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I personally however didn't have the best experience with Zshop. I have also spoken to others who have felt the same way. As a result I never saw fit to promote the business or help them out in anyway. If you have had a positive experience that's great, not every business can win every customer. As I said if others have had a good experience I'd love to hear about it. Unfortunately as you say we are stuck for choice being that the Z has limited numbers and limited specialists so we have to rely on what we have as you say. Hopefully someone will be able to clarify exactly what's going on with Zshop.
  21. http://www.syrupmakers.com/rust/ Looks like it works wonders. Should have done this to my old valve cover, before hand sanding for hours .
  22. Be as pedantic as you like . Suits me and hopefully it will clear up alot of confusion. I want to write a 240z / 260z buyers guide soon so that it will help newbies understand common issues with Z's and I think the SU / Hitachi one is a big one. Many cars are sold with "240z SU's" when in fact they are not .
  23. They don't look like 240z SU's. They look more like British SU's bolted onto a 260z (n36) manifold. This seems to be a common problem with Ebay people list them as 240z SU's when indeed they are not.
  24. Craig I realise that you would like more visibility on the front page. The problem was that the Google calendar doesn't work well that small. I tested it out already and when you mouse over the days it cuts off the text, which i next to useless. This is because it displays in an iframe (can't avoid this). There is a component that works as an event manager for Joomla 1.0 (the system being used for the front page and articles sections). However Joomla 1.5 has just been released and upgrading from 1.0 to 1.5 is a complicated process. I don't want to rely on old components. I plan to update the site for security and maintenance reasons to the new system. If I was to build the site again I would probably use a different system, but we are stuck with this for the time being. Alternatively I could put a box (module) above the polls or as you say remove the polls. Which contains links to the upcoming events or at least outlines in bullet form the next events with dates. I know you don't find the polls useful, but I find them useful for understanding what features and things members like. I could also use the forum polls I guess. Cheers, Gavin.
  25. I'm sorry that you didn't have great experiences. At the same time though I didn't want to bad mouth anyone without reason. I also knew that they have helped many customers, its almost always impossible to please everyone when running a business. You also have bills to pay including employees, electricity, rent and god knows what else. I also don't want to tell people where and where not to go. That would be dictating and that's not something I want to do. I'd rather hear the voice of the community as a whole. I can certainly share my thoughts but that's it. Long story short its easier not to recommend, than it is to bad mouth and slander. We live and learn and I certainly have learnt a bit since I got into cars. I'll definitely be very selective of who I do and do not trust when it comes to working on my Z in future. I just wish I could have known all this when I was 18 .
