  2. I wonder if we even need the Calendar though. At first it seemed like a good idea but I honestly think that perhaps its not neccessary and just ads confusion? What do you guys think?
  3. I've seen a couple of these go up on Ebay, would definately require a bit of work to set up and probably not that reliable. The car was a Triple Weber Twin Turbo, probably high risk of detonation. I'm not sure what the huge fascination with the Wangan Midnight style is though. Its a cool car but not the best looking Zcar. That's just my opinion though .
  4. Sticky!!! Thanks for that. I'm sure it will help many of our members. Don't suppose you have any photo's of the process? I know I'm asking a bit here .
  5. Hi Everyone, As I am away in Ireland the car is now due for insurance renewal. Just wondering since the car is off the road in storage if there are low rate insurance options for a car that could be classified as undergoing restoration? While the car is relatively secure and there is very small chance of fire in the garage you can't be too sure. Currently with GIO for $300 AU per year full comp historical insurance. Cheers, Gavin.
  6. Is that 300zx Z31 Half Shafts? I didn't think these needed to be shortened? I have been wanting to do this conversion for ages.
  7. As also hinted above if I were to build a sensible L28, I would probably build a combo with the following components: - L28 N42 Block (more solid block over F54 - other opinions may vary). - N42 Head (Ported Polished and Prepped for High Compression - welded head). - 280zx Distributor (Re mapped to improve advance) - Twin SU (Hitachi 240z style) Carbs with SM performance needles - Port matched manifold & bored throats - 76 Degree Camshaft - Decent set of headers (most headers you get in Aus are pretty standard but better than stock). Add all that to a 4.11 diff and you get a decently quick Z on a relatively low budget. Pretty streetable and sounds fantastic. I'd guess maybe 220 RWHP? perhaps more? It really depends on port work and cam profile.
  8. Thought I might join in here since I'm a 1/4 of a way through a stroker build . I started a blog on what I was up to here: http://datsun-240z-blog.viczcar.com/ As mentioned above to build a stroker right takes a lot of money and patience. You are right in that it keeps with the originality of the car and one of the things I love so much about the Z is the L-series engine, there just so fun to work with and look fantastic all polished up in the engine bay with triples hanging off the side. Not to mention how lovely a well sorted one will sound. Yep they do have lots of torque and its a great feeling when you launch a well sorted one. The biggest obstacle for me is the money it takes. I bought a LD28 crank for $700 + shipping and that's before any machine work such as balancing / shot peening or heat treatment. Then you want to get yourself a set of L20 rods or L14 rods (even rarer - read expensive). L14 rods are rare because they never came out here and they were found in a 4 banger which means getting 6 is hard. Not to mention everyone wants them for their ideal rod / stroke ratio. You can also use L20 rods but they are getting harder to source. You can stick with standard L28 rods but you will loose a bit of power and it will make for a bit of a pig IMHO. Then there's custom pistons (you can go cheap - but after investing so much already why?) You need to get block work done, cylinder head work, valves, cams, rockers, lash pads. The list builds and the more you do the more it feels like you should do. You could easily pump 10 - 15k in a motor. That's before even considering turbo chargers. A guy in SA has built a stroker turbo Ben is his name. He's floating about somewhere - not sure if he's a member here now. I think you can find him on the Zgarage (I always forget the link - look in our links section). Of course if you want NA you can get a set of Triples or F.I of course more money there too . Lately the idea of an RB26 in my Z has been rattling around in my mind. Its a good thing I'm overseas at the moment because I might do something silly . Different horses for different courses it all depends on what you want at the end of the day. You can also check out Eiji's cool Z which runs an L28 http://www.viczcar.com/Featured-Rides/Eiji-Hosomi-s-Datsun-240z.html He's pushing close to 350HP at the flywheel or at least I believe.

  13. Cool looks good. I hate drums myself this seems like the best route to go.
  14. We now have a calendar section on the site that I will be using to post events. Sulio suggested that we also include a list of days like we did previously in text format just incase others have trouble with the calendar. http://www.viczcar.com/Calendar.html
  15. Yeah I guess I see your point. I just assumed that most people were now registering because its an Australian Z site and not because they thought it was a good Z site with some members from other parts of the country. I am working toward getting the www.auszcar.com domain name to work with the site. I think that will be the first step. Then I will change the logo, but there's a considerable amount of work to go since so much of the site mentions Viczcar and that will all need to be changed.
  16. I'm confused as to why people still think this is strictly a Victorian based site? As far as I'm aware we are the largest most used resource in the country for Zcars. I know the name Viczcar could imply that we are Victorian but I deliberately placed "Australasian Zcar Resource" under the logo to let everyone know they are welcome. We have considered changing the name to www.auszcar.com but at this stage that's alot of work on my behalf and I don't have the time to do it. If people could please let me know where the confusion is perhaps I can help clear things up?
  17. Welcome to supply and demand my friend, you really don't have much choice in Victoria for Z parts its either Zworx, ZFactory or Zshop. I don't like it either but as the Z gets older don't expect anything to change for the better. At least you can always shop around and several suppliers can get bits and pieces new from Japan. I guess it depends on what you need and how heavy it is.
  18. Sounds good, look forward to it.
  19. Hi Paddy, I decided it would be best to start a new thread about this. Just so people in WA have a better chance of seeing it. It might also be a good idea to notify the guys at http://wazregister.com/ and see if they are interested in notifying their members. I think you'll prefer the earlier Z's over the later Z's but I am biased .
  20. This topic has been moved to Western Australia. [iurl]http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=1944.0[/iurl]
  21. Hi mate, do you mean this old forum? http://viczcar.conforums.com/ or are you talking about the latest update? If you are talking about the latest update it should be somewhere in our database.
  22. Cool, yeah I've always loved the Simmons wheels on a Z. I think I'll try them out on my Z. I am tempted to flare out my car but don't want to cut the wheel arches. These look like they have plenty of lip which is important .
  23. Simmons look great, any mods required to get them to fit?
