  1. Unfortunately alot of cars from Japan are not as good as the pictures would have you believe. I guess the same is true anywhere really but you have to be so careful when importing vintage cars like that. There is at least 2-3 others floating around Australia and it wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple more on the way in. I hope Jim still owns this one. I met him at the 2005 nationals and he was a really great guy. Seemed to really like the old Skyline. http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=15&pos=144 I saw this car in person when it was on Auction at through Shannons in Melbourne. It looked pretty immaculate.
  2. Tin Worm really did take a bite out of your lunch there. As funny as this may sound I was going through the same process about 5-6 years ago. http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=199 My biggest single regret was not seeing the project through. I sold the shell on to a mate who still has it. He has been too busy to finish it as he already has another 240z he is working on. I want to offer to buy it back off him. He already said he wants to hang onto it for now though . Really looked forward to more progress on this car though. Should be aweome!!!!!
  3. I love the blue Z above, but I don't like the glossy black. I think a flat black looks alot nicer. The stripe is cool, but its not a JDM feature. The stripe was something American dealers added to their Zeds. So it depends on the look you want. I'm thinking a nice pinstripe would be good, or perhaps even a flat black bonnet? (432-432r look). Of and charcoal Wat's = Very Cool!!!!!
  4. Too right! I think the problem is related to the way some sites are moderated and the age groups that certain makes and models attract. Most forums are just that! Someone has thrown up a forum for a certain make and model and that's all the love and attention it gets. When I started (with lots of help from Sulio) Viczcar now of course Auszcar I wanted to grow a community of enthusiasts willing to help each other and share information. Setting out forum rules and making it clear is really important, but I also think that having member rides featured on the site adds that community feel and people can get to know each other that bit better. Also the drive days and other meets are opportunities for the same. I would also be fairly confident that the age group of enthusiasts on this site tends to me a more mature group and we have lots of older fellas here (which is great!) I personally admire many of the same muscle cars and I don't have a prejudice towards any other makes and models myself. In fact there is something to like about all different cars. Variety is the spice of life, so they say. I guess I like Japanese cars because they are the under dog. The cars that people always write off or dismiss without a second thought. For me the greatest tragedy for cars this century is the rapid disappearance of many Japanese classic cars from our roads. Take the Datsun 240K Skyline for example. There practically is none left!!!!!! I have a wallpaper on my monitor at work of a 240K turned into a Skyline KPGC110 GTR replica and the funny thing is the amount of comments it gets. When people come over to see me they are like 'cool car', 'awesome looking car' or they see the Skyline badge and love it. I have a feeling I'm not the only 1 who has a strong passion for the Japanese Classics and as much as I respect and admire muscle cars I just prefer the J-tin because there unique and funky and odd and that's what makes them so cool. I've been to hot rod shows and I find that people into Hot Rods are genuinely quite good. I think it just comes down to the forum you visit and the audience that forum attracts. I've been to some meets sometimes in my Zed (A couple of Commodore Cruises) and it is interesting to see the various reactions to the car you really do get a mixed bag though.
  5. Just when you thought there was everything a Datsun man could want. Along comes this: http://www.datman.co.uk/musicetc/index.htm I love the last image .
  6. This is actually where I first took my white 260z 2+2 for a spin. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&e=ForceExperiment&q=victoria&sll=-37.553832,145.643005&sspn=0,359.197311&ie=UTF8&ll=-37.736648,145.098581&spn=0.055117,0.100336&z=14&layer=c&cbll=-37.73851,145.104463&panoid=WrHFUnf-RhSNXPO7i4c1kw&cbp=12,162.52,,0,-4.85 Not very long but some great driving.
  7. Clicky the linky thing . It will give you the url to use.
  8. ohhhh this is a great topic. I have a few. We should try and include Google Map links so people can explore them . 1. Great Ocean Road - When there's no damn camper vans in the way! 2. 9. Hey hey hey, good to see you onboard here. Love the car, would love to feature it on the homepage too! I won't rest till every Zed nutter in the country is a member here . Can I ask what you paid for the L-series race engine? Just so I can be jealous I didn't buy it .
  10. Hi everyone, I just came across this, seems like a reasonable price considering. http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/wcrcvhalfshaftaxlekit.pdf
  11. If I was you, I would take care of the problem areas and respray in the same colour. That bronze colour is great I think, shame not more zeds around in that colour anymore. Changing colour is a huge job, but touching up the exiting paint and giving it a refresher is not a big deal. Besides from the pics you uploaded it looked fairly straight and clean as is.
  12. Len if you sell those mirrors I'll buy them .
  13. Maybe we need a thread about what we lost in our cars?
  14. Tool Envy? I was thinking allong the same lines actually. I remember I had a tool for this but it was still well hard. Getting those collets in and out in a pain in the backside.

    my 260 2

Looks awesome dude. Love the colour scheme (no joke) it was this colour zed in 2+2 form that got me into them in the first place. Those wheels look hot on it too.

    Decals

That's awesome thanks for that link. I wonder if someone can help us document the different stickers that were fitted to AU market cars though. Some of those stickers are used specific. For example the Aussie cars had an interesting Datsun sticker on the lap seat belts.
  17. I managed to grab another set of L14 rods. So I now have 12 in total. Enough for 2 sets of 6 or 3 sets of 4 . These don't come up very often at all. So when they did I had to grab them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=390051335307 To me these are much harder to find than an LD28 crank.
  18. Yikes! would be nice to have all the same though.
  19. Tail lights are the same, rear garnish is different for the 2 seater. 2+2 is slightly wider in the buttocks area.
  20. HKS Surgetank anyone? http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b97806024#enlargeimg
  21. From Wiki Wiki Wa Wa Pedia I like that description 'the real poorman'. I think the Honda PFT-500 / XL-500 motorcycle pistons would be much lighter than the heavy KA24 ones.
  22. Sorry that was a typo, I meant 2 seater . Funny you used to be able to pick up a 240z like that for around $3k a few years ago.
  23. Not a bad looking 2+2 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DATSUN-260Z-2-SEATER-ORIGINAL_W0QQitemZ180358065063QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item180358065063&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50 Item ID: 180358065063
  24. Thanks, can't hurt to have some spares. With 4 more I can complete 2 sets.
  25. Good suggestion, I might do something like that. Will see how popular it is and who's downloading it. If there's a problem with abuse I'll restrict it.
