Hi mate, to be honest I'd rather try and keep everything on this site if possible. What did you mean by 100g plus of files? Currently the site has some limitations in terms of size of file uploads. However when I finally launch the new site (no idea when that will be done yet) it should be easier to do this kind of thing. I'm happy to upload them as you roll them out. As Mr C says above I might just make a private thread / board where only members can access it.

I'm pretty sure its carbon build up on your plugs. You left it sitting at idle for a while and I think that because its running rich at idle your plugs are all fouled up. When you pull them out check their colour if they are black as soot you know its been running way too rich. Ideally they should be a nice brownish colour. Give it the Italian Tune Up as described by Jay Leno http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=1088821 Otherwise pull the plugs, 1 at a time and clean them up with a wire brush.

Linking directly to the file from other forums as oppose to this thread. That way users on another forum can just download the file without visiting the site first.

To be honest that is really what www.vintagejdm.com is for, but it needs some work still. -
Sounds awesome Len, I've been looking for a way to replace all the bolts on a Zed and as you say nothing worse than having to switch to non-metric. If you can get a kit together for all OEM bolts I would definitely buy that!

Welcome awesome looking Zed there. Yes this is primarily an Australian site but you are very welcome all the same. I am living in Dublin myself currently and I know quite a few owners here in Europe now . Perhaps I should start Eurozcar.com? If I'm ever over in Norway I'll let you know, its one of the many places I still have to visit. Keep us updated on your project. -

Another 260z 2 seater on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-260z-2-seater_W0QQitemZ180356959212QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item180356959212&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50 Item ID: 180356959212 -
So anyway I did some shopping for you on ebay (next I'll be telling you what T-shirts to wear and how to cut your hair). Anyway here are some reconditioned distributors for your Zed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-240Z-E12-80-Performance-Electronic-Distributor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a3Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem5d24c65e43QQitemZ400048938563QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-240Z-E12-80-Performance-Electronic-Distributor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a3Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem5d24d46863QQitemZ400049858659QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Genuine-Datsun-Distributor-Gasket-240Z-280Z-280ZX-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a3Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3a4e43a480QQitemZ250421159040QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories But yeah for what its worth don't bother with second hand distributors. Go for the reconditioned ones. The worn out ones can have shaft wear and the ball bearing cage in them can fall apart causing it not to advance properly. Also when they wear out they can arc out causing them to missfire. These reco ones are the way to go. Might wanna double check with the seller though what parts you will need. They mention you'll need a couple of parts.

The factory service manual goes into a lot more detail than the Haynes manual and was used by Nissan Mechanics to service and repair the S30 series. These manuals can be difficult to obtain and John Ovcaric has kindly taken the time to put this together. If you find this useful please let us know and we will do our best to get the the whole series uploaded. http://www.viczcar.com/factory-service-manuals/Section%201%20-%20S30%20Series%20Service%20Manual%20-%20Engine%20Tune.pdf *Note Please don't hotlink to this file. Rather link to this thread from other forums. If people abuse this policy I may have to block any hot linking to this file from the server. Hot linking can use alot of bandwidth and our hosting account does have a limit on bandwidth every month. Although we usually stay well under this limit its possible that large files like this will cause our bandwidth usage to sky rocket.

A couple more pics. Also I know you were asking what things I'd work on. For now as I say leave the body work alone as that's a big job and the car looks relatively decent on the outside. I'd say enjoy it as is and focus on getting it running right. Here are some suggestions: 1.) Electronic Distributor - Remove the ballast resistor and go with the E12 Electronic Dizzy. I've seen them reconditioned on Ebay in the states relatively cheap. It will make a big difference to top end and makes starting the car much easier. Plus you'll probably get better fuel economy with it too. 2.) Get the carbs in tune properly and set up with the rights jets / needles and all that other business. 3.) Get the rear tail lights plastic chromed. Will look alot neater than that weird yellow paint on there. 4.) Clean the interior up a little bit, although its not too bad. 5.) Upgrade the standard brakes and go with Wilwood's or something like that on all 4 corners. The stock brakes are not very good. 6.) Not sure what suspension is in it, didn't think to check. But Tokico 5-ways are not bad (have them in my zed) - Koni's are probably a bit better though. 7.) Paint those Wat's black in the center and get some nice Watanabe Wheel caps. Anyway that's what I'd probably focus on for now.

haha, yeah for some reason i kind of expected you to look like your Avatar but was pleasantly surprised you didn't . Great to see a Zed again, I'm deprived of seeing and hearing an S30. Let me know if you need a hand doing any work on it. Its been ages since I've done anything with them and I'd be glad to point you in the right direction with anything. Shame my g/f had her camera with her when she went to Italy, otherwise would have taken some photos of it. Typical lovely Dublin weather as usual. Attached are some pics of Watanabe Wheels with the black (charcoal) center and some with polished lip so you can see what I'm talking about. If you don't like the all black look i think you should go for the black center's with the polished lip.

For the record there is such a thing as a 140z it was quite rare but sold in export markets such as South Africa. It was a 120Y Coupe with different tail lights and front end treatment.
-
Yeah it can be good fun alright. Its not fun when its off the road for a long period of time though. As much as I miss driving the Zed, I do miss having something to tinker with and work on. There is a certain satisfaction from taking something run down and crap and turning it into something wonderful again.

Nah I was thinking of using the original L24 block that came with the car from the factory. The original owner still had it and was throwing it out on ebay. I picked it up from him and have it in the garage. I still want to build the L31 but I figured I'd practice by building up the original L24 first and see what I can do with it. Like I could use L24 rods with the L28 crank in the old L24 (P30) block. Then fit some slightly oversize pistons. Stick an early E88 or E31 on it and do some port work valve work, then stick the Triple Mikuni's on it with a wild camshaft. Keeping it original and matching numbers. Then again maybe I'm just being too romantic about it. Hence the reason I decided to travel, I couldn't make up my mind properly and I didn't want to blow all my coin on an engine yet. I guess I was thinking along the lines that I had most of the parts I needed already and may as well use them to build that engine. Otherwise I'll be waiting several years to finish the project.
-
This is why I decided to travel OS for a while instead of continue with my L31 build. I realised how expensive it is to do it right. Plus to be honest I'm not sure I want to blow all that money on an L-series engine straight up. I'm thinking of learning to build an engine on my own first, take a block apart, prep it clean it up, balance it a little, even give porting and polishing a go myself. Stick a mild cam in it and put the Triple Mikuni's on it, have some fun but keep it relatively tame. I kind of want to build a real junkyard motor, that is a motor built with cheap parts in a junkyard and just see what I can achieve from it in terms of power and drivability. A well sorted L28 can be pretty damn quick. I already have L14 rods and LD28 crank (thanks to Nzeder for completing my set of L14 rods). However the more I think about it the more I want to build something a bit different like an L24 with L28 crank . Plus for me there's other areas of the car to attend to, such as the bodywork, brakes, suspension, interior. Not trying to put anyone off, just putting it out there that a monster L28 is great but to be honest very expensive. Plus I'm the type that likes to learn (do it myself) and do things on a sensible budget.

Hi Mick, You got that conversion done now? I know you sent me some stuff a while ago I'll have to dig it up for a feature on the front page. Would be great to get new pics of it with the completed conversion.

Yeah I can understand the appeal, I just hate it that you have to sacrifice a 240z to make one . Its a bit more acceptable in the US where they are so cheap and easy to obtain, but as they say they aren't making anymore of either of these vehicles so for some its the only way to come close to the original.
-
Cars pop up on this site all the time. Its just a matter of being quick on the draw. There are loads of people who scan the classifieds in fact its our second most popular section on the website just to give you an indication. Be vigilent! Hmmm gives me an idea of putting latest classified ads on the homepage (much like latest forum threads). I was under the impression that you parted out a 240z only recently? Maybe I'm getting my usernames confused though.

If we can get an original stalk as a template we can get copies made so that the angle is correct. I'm sure you could sell them also, lots of US owners want the passenger side mirror. Just a thought, if I had an original mirror I would do that. I do know where I could get 1 as a template but I would have to get in contact with that person.

Hmm strange I thought it was definitely gone and I saw a sold listed for it on one of the Irish websites. Perhaps it fell through? Its a nice one alright.
