  1. Nice 240k restored with modern rb26 engine.
  2. Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good tyre shop in the Sydney area for balancing wheels + tyres? The background is ever since I got my RX-7 on the road here in NSW it has a slight vibration at 80 km/h that seems to disappear around 100 - 100km. Before the car left Ireland I had it detailed pretty thoroughly I suspect that perhaps 1 of the wheel weights came off during the clean (they steam cleaned the under carriage and wheels were pretty spotless after also). Either that or something else happened during transit. Not sure if wheel nuts being swapped between different wheels could cause it, if the wheels were off for compliance and put on in different order? It also seems to pull slightly to 1 side now, could it be a wheel alignment issue? So basically just want it checked for balance and alignment. It's not a major issue or vibration but I recall it used to be smooth as silk before (even at 180km/h on Irish roads it was like icing on cake smooth lol)...
  3. Just wanted to say thanks to Matt / PZG302 for the stone/undertray and the chat on Saturday evening. It was nice to meet you and nice drive to the Blue Mountains. I've found some dimanond vinyl in the states but price of it + shipping and almost worth just buying brand new. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/classic08a02a Found another on Yahoo! auctions but by the time I pay for broker fees etc.. it's not worth buying a ratty old set.
  4. Thanks guys, I've enrolled. Would be fun to do this course alongside some of you guys.
  5. To quote "The valves are the worst impediment to flow" - that's why I love rotors, "Look Ma, No Valves" haha.
  6. 10 years later I'm still looking, there is no help I'm afraid.
  7. Nope but if someone can go view it I'd be interested in buying it.
  8. I like it mate, looks great. I kinda prefer them to the full length ones I have. I have to admit though I only put these on as a temporary thing to see how much I liked them. I made a balls of the install also, but they do give the car a little more of that vintage character. Makes it feel just a bit more special when I see it parked in the street. Most modern cars lack the pinstripe, decals and other subtle details that cars of yesteryear had and I kinda miss that. It just adds that bit of flavour.
  9. This is unreal that someone would try this on. The community is so small that I'm sure it will come to light soon enough. I'll keep my eyes out, I never see Zeds around Sydney but if I do I'll be sure to let anyone inc. the police know. Is there a phone number (owner) we can contact if we see anything? Might be worth sending me a PM. I'm a hawk when it comes to cars of interest.
  10. Yeah but where is the fun in that? I'm interested to see how you guys go, I want to try building a Megasquirt EFI set up on my 240z. I hear what you guys are saying in terms of it being a headache but I'm very eager to learn.
  11. Oh wow, what a cool unique and rare car. I saw 1 in Cape Town South Africa last year in white. Really neat little car, first time I saw 1. Are there many in Australia?
  12. Please view this ad: Datsun 240Z - 1973, http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mclaren-vale/cars-vans-utes/datsun-240z-1973/1032353004 Price: $ 18,000.00 Download the application from the Google Play Store. http://goo.gl/7NzhP
  13. Can't go wrong with Work Meisters. But can we have a lairy centre colour again? :-)
  14. Old video but a good one.
  15. My FD has a powerFC fitted, it just went through ADR compliance and they said nothing about it. I didn't tell them it was fitted mind you, but my insurance company knows and is fine with it. I think so long as the ECU meets the emission testing regulations its fine, but we don't have mandatory emission testing in Australia like they do in the UK / Ireland / US so I'm not sure how they regulate this other than perhaps being randomly selected by the police for testing with the EPA? In which case swapping a standard ECU back in shouldn't be a hassle. My question for others in this thread relates to the rules and regulations around swapping an RB30 block with 25 head into an early S30Z. I recall someone having issues with this because they couldn't get it through engineering in a 260z 2 seater but it would have been fine in a 240z? Which engine is used for the assessment the RB30 or 25? Further to this how does weight / displacement ratio impact rotary engine swaps? Before you ask, yes I do have dirty thoughts of a 20B engine swap in the 240z. A 20B can easily crank out 700HP without even thinking about it. So being limited to 5.6L N/A seems a bit silly doesn't it? I'm sure an N/A 5.7L engine can produce 700HP also but I just don't see the logic. Then again I'm looking for logic in government department regulations. I guess they just sat in a room and said "let's pick an arbitrary set of numbers out of the air and go with that". Job done.
  16. Yeah I loved it also, great watch.
  17. Lurch you're such a wordsmith lol... I for 1 think it looks pretty cool, definitely different and 50 years from now it's unique design will be appreciated by youngsters . For example I'm really digging the old Datsun shapes of yesteryear these days. Cars that were deemed uncool not that many years ago like the 180B coupe's or 240K's etc.. are making a comeback I think. For example this thing here: Is very similar in some ways to the shape and concept of the Lotus Europa. I appreciate both shapes, my g/f on the other hand thinks I'm nuts. As mentioned above, I think under powered RWD cars is a good thing, the aftermarket can take hold of these and provide upgrade kits for those wanting to go faster. If you think back to the 510, 240z days Nissan had a strong array of performance upgrades on hand for the automotive enthusiast. I remember lots of people saying the R35 GTR shape was horrible etc.. when it was first unveiled but I think it's far nicer looking than the earlier GTR's myself. You often have to see these cars in person to properly appreciate them. Even an old 240z can look garbage in photos taken from the wrong angle. See it in person I say.
  18. At least you have a sense of humour about it, could have been much worse also. If you were traveling a lot faster or driving fast around a long bend etc.. Did you sustain any other damage? Were you driving slow at the time it happened?
  19. Oh dear, did we have a brain fart? Did the wheel fall off? At least this didn't happen? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv4m41viy4I I agree those old guards are solid compared with a modern car, with enough work you could probably get it right again. Nice wheels though...
  20. If you are with Shannon's and have agreed value, you should also have option to buy salvage. As mention you could repair it, or buy another depending on how you feel about it. I hate it when this happens to classic cars, no doubt the old lady was driving a standard run of the mill model too.... Several Zeds have shown up recently for sale, which all have their merits. I guess it depends on how determined you are to have your car back vs another Zed. I get funny when a car has been smacked hard. I'd rather try find an accident clear 1, but with enough work and expertise anything can be put back as good as new. Eric Bana's Falcon was pretty far gone, as far as I'm aware she's good as new again after it was put into trees in Tassie. With enough money you can achieve anything! So is it sentimental value to you or could you just buy another? Pictures will help us also of course.
  21. LOL Nizmozed that troll clapping pic is awesome. The question is, will that RYCO filter actually fit an L-series block?
  22. I guess in Japan the L-series is like a Small Block Chevy in the US.
  23. Yeah about that, I'm not sure it's the most accurate measurement of most online ever. I think it includes bots / spiders and crawlers. Still a cool little factoid none the less. I have Google Analytics data which is probably a better indicator of site activity over the past few years. Since generally speaking it excludes bots and spiders.
  24. Good to see progress, so rust basically in all the common spots. Good work for first time repairing rust and learning to weld.
