  1. I just love the stock look also. Or period correct / optional sports catalogue parts. I'm more and more leaning toward the look that Dave Scholz has on his 240z. But I wouldn't run that front air damn or headlight covers personally. I would like to see it with a 'period correct' air damn and the stainless trimmed headlight covers (albeit they are expensive). I also think subtle customisations that emulate the 60's Ferrari's is what appeals to me a lot. For example this kind of bonnet pin (or strap in this case), and the duct in the hood. Or the fluted bonnet similar to the E-type The previous owner of my 240z had done this. (You can just make them out) Don't ask me why he put 200B mirrors on it though *so much yuck!* But someone tapped the front of the bonnet when it was parked and I had to replace it because it had bowed and I couldn't find a good 240z one at the time, I've never felt like the later 260z fluted bonnet I replaced it with worked as well aesthetically. I was also considering powder coating or ceramic coating the rear exhausts to make them yellow, white or leave them black? I've always felt like driving an old Z is as close to the experience I can get as a 60's era Ferrari. The reason I say all this, is that I think there is nothing wrong with customisation, but for me I want to go with stuff that suits the era or time period the car came from or out of. Rather than trying to keep up with modern styles / trends.
  2. Christmas it's the most wonderful time of the year, if you're looking for a classic car that someone has given up hopes of restoring and feels a bit broke.
  3. I also think more people will be interested in the period racer look. Like this: Perhaps also the style of the Works Rally Cars also?
  4. As more and more cars disappear from the roads or get modified with flares etc.. there will be more people wanting originality, so yes I agree.
  5. This made me LOL, I know the feeling. George this is why I haven't taken to a grinder on my guards yet. Before Sulio stuck the flares on his car, http://www.viczcar.com/member-rides/sulios-1974-datsun-260z I created this photoshop rendition of what I was thinking of doing to my own Z. http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=38 Sulio said he was gonna do it and bought the flares, wheels etc.. I remember seeing it in person down at the docklands. http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=47 I thought it looked really cool, because back then nobody had really done it in Australia. Weather or not Sulio was influenced by my photoshop mock or not is irrelevant as I was influenced by seeing the Japanese Market Cars. I think it's definitely a classic combination, but perhaps getting a little over done now? Kind of like seeing Eleanor replicas from Gone in 60 seconds. I don't think it will go 'out of fashion' but I do think it will be a bit more mainstream. Not that it's a bad thing, some days I would love to run the massive flares, ZG nose etc.. Other days I want to retain the AU market look. I guess you could say this is why I bought any wheels yet. I still can't bring myself to chop those guards, I worry I'll have regrets later, but everything is of course able to be reversed so perhaps I'm just a big girl? Here are some examples of what I've thought about on and off. Molded Flares I even said I like em' in 2009 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,658.msg32414.html#msg32414 I just love this Z and I don't think it would ever look old. The flares are just so.. good. http://www.speedhunters.com/2008/06/car_feature_gt_gt_battle_s30z/ If I go ZG look like this Most likely I'll pump the money into an engine build first though.
  6. I could be down for that, but I won't have my own Z. Would love to get a ride in a Z out for the day? I'm in Caulfield (or my parents are). Otherwise it's mum's Mazda 3 for me. Still happy to join an see some Zeds on the road.
  7. Has anyone viewed #150 in person?
  8. Not looking hard enough . http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260z-Front-Gaurds-/331078451104?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A240%20Z&hash=item4d15d03fa0&_uhb=1 If either of you do buy this, I can probably pick it up for you.
  9. Try this mate. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:VdDRTqqysAsJ:carpoint.carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx%3FR%3DSSE-AD-2188133%26Cr%3D3+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au It should be the cached version of the page before it was taken down. It won't last forever though and soon it will be lost like all other expired pages on the internet, like tears in the rain.
  10. Ahh yes, something every newbie should be encouraged to do. Come down have a chat and meet people in person. Sometimes ideas and things get lost in translation over the Internet. Meeting people and seeing different cars and different builds can help solidify ideas.
  11. Love the trophies, looking forward to it. See you guys there.
  12. Export market cars had prefix HS30 for the 240z, although the Fairlady 240zg also had (HS30-H but suffix -H wasn't on the actual VIN stamp as far as I'm aware it was used when the factory referenced the ZG cars). The RS30 VIN ID refers to the 260z and GRS30 meant 2+2. On Japanese cars it was generally S30 only (no H in front) for cars similar to our 240z, and later Fairlady Z's were S31 (which had the same revisions and updates - generally speaking as the 260z. It's all a big more complicated than that, but that's a simplified version. There are some Japanese market cars floating about in Australia which were originally fitted with the L20 2.0ltr (6 cylinder) engine. However many have had that changed over the years. The Fairlady Z badge was only used in the Japanese Domestic Market cars.
  13. 1 of the best videos on the SU carbs is available from Ztherapy. http://www.ztherapy.com/ I've got it but don't want to upload for fear of copyright breach, but pertaining to Zcar carbs it's excellent and gives a good overview of how the SU's work.

  15. I knew that car was familiar. Very sad. There is a build thread on here let me see if I can find it.
  16. Hmm maybe we can get some made up for the club? I like the "Datsun, we are driven" . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwRP_wy0xG0
  17. The Christmas Rush they are all coming onto the market lately. Looks good bar mismatched wheels (unless that's your thing?) and sunroof.
  18. N47 heads had round exhaust ports I think, but all intake ports on the L-series are round as far as I'm aware.
  19. Over priced? Are you sure? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ebaymotors/1971-Datsun-240Z-Series1-just-purchased-from-original-owner-49-000-miles-/281214786777?_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true#ht_1290wt_1167 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ebaymotors/Rare-1969-Datsun-240z-one-of-543-built-/171180049519?_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true#ht_1794wt_1167 These 2 barn finds in the US went for $5K + Only thing letting this car down is the non-original engine.
  20. Interesting... shame no L24 and sunroof. In the best standard colour too haha.
  21. Looks like a Japanese market car. Wonder if it has efi on it? I love the colour and wheel combo.
  22. Yeah the ones he had made had a stitched pattern from memory. So not quite OEM. *edit found his cardomain page* He did a real nice job on that Z. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3868428/1974-datsun-260z/photo-gallery/ Hmm you're testing my anorak skills here mate, I *think* early 74 260z's had the same pattern as 240z's, but definitely by 1975 it was changed to a smaller diamond pressing. Also the rear strut towers were plain vinyl no pressed patterns etc.. Here are some reference pics. 240z kit. 260z kit Note: The 260z strut towers are plain jane. What makes the 260z problematic is that the later cars (which are similar to the 280z style body) had taller rear strut towers. Also the 2+2's might be different again. In terms of price, whilst I can't confirm an exact figure until we've at least made 1 set. So far I've been told we should be cheaper than the other kits out there. I got the impression that it would be a fair bit cheaper also, but time will tell. I'm going to find out what the next steps are and see how we go.
  23. Well I know it was a killer, but it was worth the wait mate.
  24. Looks the goods mate, where did you source the Watanabe's from? Did you get them brand new?
