  1. There is a set on Gumtree at the moment. But not sure if they will split from rest of motor?
  2. Great colour that.
  3. Pfft if that's all the horrors you've found you got off lightly remember 40 years of 0 rust proofing. I'll be happy if I get off that lightly. Chin up mate. Gotta have a strong stomach for classic car restoration stay focused on the goal.
  4. Agree. The customisations are also not my cuppa tea. All relatively easy to change though.
  5. Car is already on its way it should be here tomorrow. I'm more worried about people seeing it on the truck or trying to pull bits off it etc.. If they see it stopped anywhere.
  6. I don't know what it is, but I love the little vents in the rear hatch. I guess it's kind of like the split screen corvette vs non split screen. Just that subtle difference and people loose their minds (well I do).. I know that feeling of getting caught up in the moment, sometimes you just want to get your build done and not worry about saving a few $$$. Don't blame you. I just had a look and I think they are replica wheels. I think you'll be happy you repaired the dashboard check out how much this guy wants for an OEM 1 $3000 AU. http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m107734420
  7. Yeah my feeling is that this car HAS to show up eventually. The problem is how long? The only reason it won't is that it's been exported to somewhere else in the world. The community of Z-car owners is so small that it can't hide forever.
  8. Just had a funny conversation with the Tow Truck driver over the phone. He said "do you mind me asking how much you would pay for a car like that?". He then went on to explain that they are getting really hard to find the 2 seaters, he mentioned that there's a few 260z 2 seaters but 240z's - you just don't see them anymore.... When I spoke to the seller the other day over the phone, he said "mate, you wouldn't believe how many people I had calling me about that 240z after the auction ended". Let's just hope when she arrives she's in 1 piece, with that 240z recently stolen I've all of a sudden become a bit nervous.
  9. Looks awesome, although if someone paid $900 for a Compe wheel on eBay they paid wayyy too much. You can get them on Yahoo! auctions for about $300. I've also seen the fender mirrors on there, so they can be sourced. . Are you happy with the dashboard restoration work done? Looks good to me in the photos.
  10. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13663.msg143621.html#msg143621 Hmm let me check when I get home later, that would be the second time I mis-read a phone number recently. Maybe I'm dyslexic after all.
  11. Thanks mate, I thought about cutting the hole a bit wider but I didn't want to do that until I knew that was my only option. I did trim the circlip down a bit to try and prevent it fouling on the door card itself but that didn't help - I suspect it wasn't enough clearance though. I guess each car might have been slightly different and may have required a bit of a trim of the door card to fit each car back in the day. The other issue I have is the window alignment is a bit off and you really have to crank the window winder hard to wind the windows up. If I get a chance I'll disassemble the door and try and fix it up. That could also be impacting what's going on here. I think there is some washers in the door to help position the window winder assembly and it's out of whack.
  12. Awesome, nice to see that "yukky brown" colour back on it. .
  13. It's been listed for a little while now, just fresh pictures.
  14. Really glad you see you back and posting photos of how you tackle each area. It really inspires me to give it a go, I particularly liked the use of a brake rotor to help shape the circular holes. That was a neat idea. I can't say I love the 250 GTO kit, on the 1 hand I see the appeal for sure, I just wish it was based on the chassis of another car - perhaps a VW haha. Still you are at least saving an otherwise beyond (most people's skill level) repair shell so I'm not totally sad . I do love the black car you posted though, it's 1 of the better conversions I've seen.
  15. Looks like a good deal to me, someone would save a whole heap of time finishing this off.
  16. You and me both haha.
  17. Not surprised I knew it wouldn't last long at that price, regardless of condition. I would have bought it for the roof alone at that price and sold it off in bits to recover costs, but I would have felt terribly guilty about it for a whole 10 mins lol... 240z's are getting so thin on the ground as projects that I'm sure he could have asked double that price.
  18. OK sounds like a plan. PB - if your mate can grab it and when I see you next I'll get it off you. If it turns out it's not needed for my 240z then I'll pass it on to Brabham. Would much rather that than it going to waste.
  19. A belated follow up to this... Here is some photos. Circlip on Note: Circular marks from me trying to force the winder on... It will sit on the door, but it just won't stay put. The drivers side was fine - the hole was a bit bigger though (someone had cut it). But at least the interior sure does look better now. Before photos. So the question is, do I need to align the door card better? Did Nissan change any door trims over the years for the 240z? Or am I missing something fundamental... Funny because I noticed that 2 of the 240z's for sale on Gumtree are missing window winders also. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mclaren-vale/cars-vans-utes/datsun-240z-1973/1032353004 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/lilydale/cars-vans-utes/1972-datsun-240z-coupe/1031901380
  20. You've seen my backyard, I was thinking if I put enough of them in the grass they might start growing on their own and multiplying...I've seen several backyards where this method has been tested before it's a sure win. Let's see how the first 2 projects go, I may never want to touch another 1 again.
  21. Get in quick kids. 240z for sale in Melbourne $2000 - barn find. Free rats nest included. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/melbourne-region/cars-vans-utes/nissan-datsun-240z-/1034401673 You won't find a 240z at this price again!
  22. Just going through your build mate so I'll probably be digging up a bit of history as I go, but based your experience with the sand blasters - what would you do differently? Or was it just bad sand blasters who did the work? I think with any build we all have moments like this that try our patience, things that nag at us after we are done.
  23. Yes do we get any interior shots yet? I know it's been a closely guarded secret. Seats do look good.
  24. So awesome, hope mine looks this good when I'm done.
  25. Thanks guys, I was eyeing off the Willwood Caliper set up on Gumtree for the 240z in Melbourne but I can't justify needing new wheels also at this stage.
