    SU Tuning Trouble

I had a stutter or mis fire years ago in my 260z when I ran points. I did fix it, but I can't remember for the life of me what I changed to fix it. I might have swapped distributors (had a spare points distributor laying around). I would try removing the distributor and check the shaft for play, check the rotor cap, rotor button and maybe replace the condensor also. Does the vacuum advance work? Most of the diaphragms have shat themselves by now. You can check by removing the cap and sucking on the vacuum hose, you should see the arm inside the distributor move to advance the assembly inside slightly.

What ignition do you have? Points / Electronic?
  3. You could very well be right, none of my S30z's ever had working air-con. My 260z had the compressor ditched.
  4. No problems Peter. Sold. Pending payment.
  5. Just did a check part no. 26740-89904 and I think I can still source these via Nissan new. For less than $60 I'd imagine too!
  6. That horsehair is JUTE material. You can still get it I believe. http://zeddsaver.com/jute.html Some good discussion on this stuff along with viable alternatives are available here: http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/3884-replace-floor-jute-with-what/ I personally wouldn't bother trying to wash the foam cushions they probably lost their pizzaz a long while ago in terms of support and what could be worse than putting your seats back together and having a mildew smell later? Best to just buy new stuff I'd say.
  7. FYI: By stone guard I assume people are referring to the undertray, which is designed to aid cooling believe it or not? Anyway that appears to be a '260z style' or later S30z version because it has the circular hole in the top left corner(for air-con condensor I think). It also has other holes at the rear and I don't think the '240z style' or early S30z ones had those! Either way they are almost always missing on cars by now.
  8. Not rare enough to be worth that, I think it will sit there a long time.
  9. I think someone will take the plunge. Let's watch.
  10. The photo thing... Very interesting a lot of early details, like 240z pillar badges, swiss cheese rear floor, solid steering wheel, but then center console is later type, no vents in rear hatch etc.. Hard to know what's what. But it does raise the question again when we refer to first 500. I know HLS30 and HS30 cars were probably built in different sequences and dats this might also explain it... Looking at the gear stick lever I'd say it had an early console originally, so it's likely the original hatch was also removed. From what I've seen of US HLS30's they usually had much higher build #s with the early features. *Edit just read the description after* Buy it now $7,400 USD

  12. haha, I know the feeling mate. I've got something I'll share soon that was just a total splurge purchase and should have been spent on getting HS30 00150 on the road, I'm told they are not even comfortable either... So we'll see how it works out, really cost a fortune and I sorta regretted it a week or so back but I'm over it now. It can be hard to stick to the plan..
  13. Where is that weld mate, firewall?
  14. Just found these, not the best before and after comparison but might be helpful.
  15. Hi mate, Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to be firm on price at this stage. Actually just noticed Chartoo listed 1 also. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15936.0.html Looks like it might be a little rough and has a broken mounting tab/ear but you could probably fabricate something to tack on. Alternatively I could send it up to Brisbane with someone if they were heading in this direction to save on postage for you?
  16. Hi Guys, I've got a Fairlady Z Grill for sale, it's in very good shape. The problem with these is often they get bent, or suffer from corrosion since the metal is quite thin. This appears to have been in dry storage for a number of years. It looks like it is painted the OEM silver/grey colour, but judging by the fact that the fasteners on the rear are no longer 'yellow chromate finished' it's probably been repainted once in it's life. I could not find any obvious corrosion (usually in the corners) but I've taken as many photos as possible to give you an overall sense of it's condition. Priced at $400 + (~$60 postage anywhere in Australia based on the last 1 I sent). Postage is high due to size. Auspost not me. If in Sydney or Melbourne may be able to offer pickup instead. Otherwise if you have a cheaper option I'm happy to send whoever your designated courier is. minor paint scuff mark on lower edge. Bottom bracket is a little loose, but wouldn't be an issue once buttoned up and attached to car. Very straight not bent in any way. Only 1 hexagonal area has a very minor bend. I'm sure if you were super careful you could bend it back straight. It was literally the only thing I could find wrong with it. If you need any more photos let me know? Also I believe there might be some differences in grill mounting brackets on different year 240z's and 260z's etc.. So this may require minor modifications to fit to your own car depending on year. I think there is a thread here someone that shows some differences I'll try and dig it up if I can. For comparison you can see what this 1 goes for... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-FAIRLADY-Z-240Z-260Z-280Z-FRONT-GRILLE-GRILL-OEM-JDM-/311348365661 It's got holes drilled in it, corrosion, a busted grill piece and paint looks rough...
  17. Posted 1 of these clocks today from Sydney to WA fully insured and it was around $12. So for anyone else considering this I'll do a flat rate of $12 anywhere in Australia.
  18. Isn't there a tool you insert into the pipe and turn with a teacher that expands inside the pipe to push out dents? I can't recall the name but it is specially designed to help fix crushed pipes.
  19. Thanks Alan, that was very insightful and useful. PS: I didn't know you could extrapolate so much information from a simple period character, but there you go. Context is king.
  20. OWWWW EEEEE EMMMMMM
  21. Password advice.
  22. Door skins are exactly the same. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=15033.0
  23. Never said thanks Mike. So thanks. Quick bump before I hawk it on eBay?
  24. Does the idler pulley sound anything like this? You can hear some kind of idler noise I think on this S20. But I think it might be the straight cut gear driven oil pumps Alan described here. http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/236658-1969-nissan-s20-twin-cam-engine-rebuild-3.html#post2470802
  25. There is a thread here somewhere showing differences in doors, I believe early 260z doors may be similar to 240z style ones in terms of latch mechanism but I think the internal shell structure 'looks' different and therefore depending on your restoration aim might not be suitable? Also the rear hatch is a bit different in that 240z's had 1 single gas strut but 260z's moved to twin struts. Not sure if there was other differences in the hinge mechanism? But 260z's also had heated rear screens where as AU delivered 240z's were sans-heated rear screens (sadly). The front panels are basically the same, except for the indicator cut out (that was a 260z thing).
