  1. That was pretty awesome, 0:33 seconds in, is it weird that seeing him use a cassette player was 1 of the best parts for me?
  2. and that answers that...
  3. Where did ya find that stuff? I'm looking for a 1/4 panel, but for the drivers side.
  4. You just need to convince 1 of the Canberra members and all the others will show up .
  5. Fair enough, it just seemed odd to me that you went to so much effort and attention to detail and yet that valve cover looked like it did when you started .
  6. Well this will blow your socks off, I just called the guy and got a hold of him (couldn't get hold of him yesterday). He told me he sold it, and it sold right away. I thought $25k was a little high for a project, but reasonable depending on parts it came with and how much rust work had been done. Yet there you go! Just makes S30z's even more undervalued in my eyes.
  7. The original dashboard is great, not sure how I feel about a modern 1 in there.
  8. Reproduction ones are here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-Fairlday-Z-License-Plate-Lamp-Assembly-Reproduction-NEW-12-J4226-/381558918907 They look a little different from the rear. The back part isn't white like OEM. Price is: US $259.00 + postage of $50 USD... so a little pricey...at ($400 AUD +) Hmm might be a good group buy item...
  9. Sadly this is what happened to many a 240K....
  10. I haven't seen the sandblasted photos yet. However the rust in the front vent tubes is a shocker. Also the patches on the lower strut towers are pretty dodgy. I would be pretty hard broken, but then again I probably would have walked after inspecting it. I guess it depends what you pay for a car and what your expectations are... After seeing a couple of Californian cars recently up close I've realised you can never judge these cars from their first impressions or appearances. They really need to be repaired properly but so many have had half arsed previous repairs. In many cases it would be better if previous owners did nothing. Wish I took a photo of a battery tray repair job I saw last week. You guys would fall off your chair, or maybe not. I'll ask if I can get a photo of it and will share here. Or perhaps start a new thread on the topic of dodgy repairs found on S30z's
  11. Here you go... http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/309641-new-project-datsun-240z.html This is why you gotta be careful buying used S30Z's tarted up with paint.
  12. Scott I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but your valve cover lets down your whole engine bay. Is there some kind of ironic reason why everything else was water blasted and cleaned and re-zinc'd but you left the valve cover looking like that? I just think water blasting it would lift the appearance of the whole engine bay.
  13. Congratulations!
  14. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/forum/garages/datsun-nissan-garage/287845-vintage-datsun-bluebird-road-racing-images http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/forum/garages/datsun-nissan-garage/287814-vintage-nissan-skyline-racing-images http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/forum/garages/datsun-nissan-garage/287661-vintage-datsun-fairlady-z-and-240z-racing-and-rally-images My reaction when I saw these photos in particular..... This looks like 'The Safari Head' Part No. 11041-E4621, refer to this page. Kobe Seiko Wheels? Oh my... Wide Steelies, looks great! I nearly fell off my chair like this guy.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4va0yanY_z4
  15. Every time someone says Murphy's law now I think of this skit by Zach Galifianakis... https://youtu.be/xTbrM3ubUDU?t=2m41s
  16. Hi Everyone, I don't need these now, I already robbed the clocks out of them. Anyone want these for spares? I'd rather not post due to cost and hassle of finding an appropriate size box but if you really need them let me know? I'll be posting a couple of items soon anyway so might be able to do it then.
  17. The lower beaver / valance area shape is also different. I suspect the licence plate area is also different as the 260z's had a different housing for that. Basically everything looks different... Photo reference here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12537-wanted-240z-beaver-panel/
  18. Lachlan (Lurch) was looking for L28 head parts like camshafts, rockers, lash pads etc.. Perhaps get in contact with him? PS: Might be a good idea to mention if your 240z tai light conversion kit comes with the licence plate light. Getting hard to find those now, there is a reproduction available but $$$.
  19. Almost had a heart attack when I saw this. $400. Ringwood Vic. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ringwood/auto-body-parts/datsun-260z/1108493301 Sadly it won't help me because it's for a 260z. Otherwise I'd be in there like swim wear.
  20. C10 4 door Skyline with these fender mirrors on Yahoo! Auctions at the moment, saved the photos for future reference though. Also attached some photos of mirrors I recently managed to acquire. Which look correct for an AU market 240z. I believe they were listed as Skyline mirrors like those above for the C10 4 door. So far these have been 1 of the hardest parts to source for restoring an early AU spec 240z.
  21. You must have done this sort of thing before. I can appreciate how much work it is, but it is very rewarding. Your dog matches the white interior.
  22. Hey Peter, The inside of the hatch has some surface rust build up because of the sandblasting I did a while ago. I believe there is a very thin coating from factory on the inside, but obviously not enough to prevent them rusting. I will be painting on some KBS rust seal (which can be applied to a surface like that) and it tends to love binding to a rough surface like that. After talking with the teacher about unpicking the entire skin we both concluded it's a lot more work and may disturb the shape around the rest of the panel (requiring more filing of already thin metal etc..) and so instead I'm going to pour down some KBS rust seal into the hatch to treat the inside area and swish it around. Since they usually don't rust up top I think this should do the trick.. In terms of skills, it's funny that sometimes things just suddenly start to click, working on a few items last night I felt that way. I'm less dependent on the teacher now for shaping areas and figuring things out, but sometimes I hesitate to just get started and give it a go. After doing this course for a while I've discovered the basic tools you want at home are: 1. Good hammer and dolly set. 2. Body file and slapper. 3. Small folder doesn't have to be big. 4. Small roller to get nice curves. 5. Good surfaces of flat steel with some varying edges (like dollies etc..) 6. Sand Bag is another good 1. With those items you can achieve a lot! English wheel would be awesome, but expensive and takes up a lot of room.
  23. They look like 510 mirrors painted black to me... The base section on the shorter ones is a bit different. What is the year of 240z that was purchased? 72 and 73 models had a single door mirror (not fender mirrors) if you're looking for strict originality.
  24. Last night I tried out the vents to see how they look and line up.. They were a little loose, and I had forgotten that there is clips that go underneath the vents to fix them in place. Here is a photo of the hatch on HS30 00150, note the clips in the corners, but also the 'hand brushed' black paint (similar to the front radiator support panel) factory finish that goes under the vents. I'll be sure to replicate this when the car is repainted and the hatch for that matter. Since I can't live with the patched up repair in each corner tonight I started to fabricate the lower corners. It looks trickier than it is, the left side is done and the right side is not quite finished yet.
