  1. Love the DR30 Iron Mask Skylines. Shame no FJ20 in it. Getting harder to find now.
  2. What parts do you need? There is quite a few vendors selling the same goods, I always try to find the person who is reproducing them and order direct through them, rather than the reseller. Not sure if this mod is responsible for all these products. I believe George HS30 00019 ordered a bunch of interior parts not that long ago, but can't recall which seller it was in the US. I tend to go with vendors who others have dealt with before and had good experiences with.
  3. Good to know! It looks like he has reproduction Hitachi Radio manuals which I was looking at buying. He has quite a few good bits and pieces (reproductions) that are hard to find now. Do you know if he sells more than what's listed on his website? The website hasn't been updated in a long time from the looks of it so wondering if he's got a larger catalog than what's shown on his website?
  4. Just an idea, but in order to protect it after it's painted, maybe put painters tape on it and then put the chrome rings on top of it, the tape should protect the paint from scratches and then you just use a stanley / sharpie blade to cut the excess tape off?
  5. HS30 103648 (so a late 73 model) was posted on Gumtree along with HS30 00420. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1924-cars-for-sale-3rd-party-sites-ebay-carsales-etc/?p=176584 Both have seen better days.

  8. You might need to make some up, I've got some from HS30 00150 that are a bit pinched. As I mentioned above, I haven't tried to remove them yet. Instead I found 2 sets of good tail light garnish pieces. Ashley at Moorabbin auto spares might have some, that's where I got 1 set from. I think he had some others, might have been a bit more rough. Last pair I saw on Yahoo! Auctions (stainless trim only) were these. Not cheap! x404289157 S30z tail light chrome trim surround (goes around tail lights) 26,000 yen 1/6/2015 Auction Sold NOS
  9. Yeah I don't have any of those spare I'm afraid. I'm not sure of anyone who make reproductions or where you can get them new. Last set I saw were on Yahoo! Auctions a while ago. I can't recall what they sold for but I could look it up. Your best bet would be to find a good pair of second hand ones and clean / polish them up.
  10. I wouldn't bother trying to cool things down faster either, rapidly cooling any weld like with a damp rag may actually cause more distortion. It's best to let it naturally cool, you of course have to wait a while 15-20 seconds per weld which is why this stuff is time consuming, but that is the advice I've been given at my workshop/tafe class. I posted a link in Andrew's build thread but will post here also for others interested. http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/03/the-101-how-to-weld/ This is probably 1 of the better tutorials out there in my opinion, I quite liked the tape template idea. The best advice I'd give anyone and that includes myself is to be patient. I know every time I make a balls of something it's because I've been rushing to get done.

  12. I was just looking at this guide. Since I'm not great at MIG on sheet metal, I'm used to Oxy/Acetylene. Different technique, but this guide is good in terms of tips. http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/03/the-101-how-to-weld/
  13. This discussion has been split from the Early Girl Bingo thread. In order to keep better track of specific cars and their specifications / details we need a database. Creating a full fledged database to keep track of RHD (and for the most part AU market cars), is something I've discussed for a while. However before 'hard coding' any of it, I think it makes far more sense to have a temporary form using Google Forms to collect data and see how people interact with the form and try and determine what data we want to collect. Think of it as an early prototype. Placing it into a spreadsheet will allow the data to be stored in a CSV (comma separated value) format. Which should be easy enough to merge into an SQL database when ready in future. You can have a look at the form so far here: http://goo.gl/forms/0jI8xrmo2h I am still working on the scope: 1. Required info. 2. What is desirable info to capture. What do we want to know about these cars? 3. Which cars we want to record, HS30, RS30 and GRS30. Keep in mind some members here have home market cars eg: S30 and S31's also. 4. At this stage I think HLS30, RLS30, GRLS30 is out of scope unless we think it's a good idea to try and record these also? I am somewhat limited with what can be done via Google Spreadsheets / forms in terms of data validation etc.. My plan is not to make the spreadsheet viewable to the general public. Rather I'd keep the info under lock and key (or login) and only give out data in aggregate form (so it would stay somewhat anonymous). For example I could then disclose how many sub 100 chassis number cars are left, or how many were white and blue combination that we know of. What engine numbers were used in the month of October 1970, how many are recorded as deceased etc.. And here is my final thought cloud for now, what I am thinking of doing is creating a new 'verified members' discussion board. This would only be available to members who have provided proof they own an S30Z and submitted their details to the register. As an example I would ask for: 1. Photo of chassis ID. 2. Photo of engine bay ID plate. 3. Photo of engine number. (if original motor). 4. Photo of compliance plate. (if applicable for year or fitted). When these details are provided members would get access to this verified section knowing that only other verified members could see posts in that section. I am still all for being an open forum for the most part. However as these cars become more and more desirable there is certain discussions that I think others would feel more comfortable discussing within a certain circle of known folks. Talking to many people over email, PM etc.. about these cars I noticed there is a subset of us who have been around these cars for many years and maybe have a couple of them and would benefit from a dedicated section that may not be in the direct public eye, where we don't know who is really looking in. So with all that I'm open to discussions / thoughts and suggestions?
  14. Maybe have been for an aftermarket arm rest...Seen that on 240z's a lot. Especially US cars.
  15. NSX prices have been going up yes, but I find they are actually very rare so not only expensive but difficult to find. I considered 1 also but the shape never quite did it for me and I couldn't find any in Europe at the time. I did see 1 asking 24,000 Euro and at the time and I could pick up an FD RX-7 for less than half that in Europe a few years ago. Personally I prefer the FD anyway and have NO regrets buying 1. I think the S30Z and FD3S are 2 of the best shapes to come out of Japan.
  16. I knew about this tank before hand, but I hate wasting an otherwise good part. I like recycling stuff that is useable and part of the original car. So all good.
  17. I would imagine so yes, why don't you ask the seller for photos of the engine number in the engine bay to confirm?
  18. Yes I've got an FD RX-7, they are not nearly as easy to work on or maintain as a 240z mechanically. However it really depends on how well it's been looked after up until now. Parts for the FD can be quite expensive and I'd personally avoid heavily modified ones unless it's comes from a reputable shop or builder. Too many modified ones have been done on the cheap to their detriment. I'd imagine not many specialists for them in Hong Kong? So that might make things more difficult for you.
  19. Fuel tank looks a lot better shape (dent wise) than mine, but too late now I've already sent it off for work.
  20. So I gave repairing the strap a go, first of all it's pretty thin metal and where I cut it wasn't the best place (right next to the bracket) so welding it was a bit tricky. The first weld looked good but then I started to bend and flex the strap and it cracked the weld, which was mostly sitting on top of the metal. So I cranked the welder up to higher heat, which did blow a couple of holes but it's a lot stronger now, I managed to flex it without cracking anywhere so the weld was a lot stronger. But it does look a little bit messy, not a huge deal because once painted and under the car it won't make a difference. However if I can still get a spare in better shape I'll grab it.
  21. S30Z prices in Japan have really taken off lately. I think there is a very strong appreciation for them in their home market. So yes they are expensive, I've noticed increased demand from UK buyers of Australian cars. I guess relatively speaking ours have less rust but these cars rust no matter what the climate. Given the lack of adequate rust proofing from factory. It sounds like owning a car in Hong Kong is a lot like Singapore, pretty expensive just to have the licence. Good luck, but please don't tell your friends in Hong Kong how great these cars are, we don't have many left here and we want to keep as many here as possible. .
  22. Hi George, Are there many 240z's in Hong Kong?
  23. Yeah great combo, the light blue and gold center on the Simmons.
  24. Dropped the tank and radiator down there this morning. Going for a modern 3 core style radiator, which is a bit more expensive than a normal 3 core but should be a more efficient unit. Will also keep things cooler, not sure if what was in it was 2 core or 3 but it looked beyond it's natural life span and it looks like it had been replaced at some stage in it's life. The fuel tank seems to be in good shape, and we are hoping most of the dents come out of it, actually the fuel tank work is going to be less than the radiator! I thought it would be the other way around. An eBay $200 alloy radiator would have been significantly cheaper, but in my opinion looks out of place in a restored engine bay. Fine for a modified car, but doesn't look right in a car that I'm trying to keep 'period correct' looking. So much for the rat rod eh? Also if anyone has a radiator shroud please let me know? Kind of need it urgently. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14823-wtb-radiator-shroud-piece-240z-urgent/
  25. Hi Everyone, Just dropped my radiator down to Alexandria Radiator Service. http://www.alexandriaradiatorservice.com.au/services We noticed that the shroud is missing off the rear of the radiator, just above where the fan is. Attached some photos of what I'm talking about, they mentioned being able to put it back on for me. However the radiator and fuel tank are being restored over the next 2 weeks. So I'm urgently looking for this piece if anyone has it? I am hoping someone has an old radiator they want to turf or don't need? Cheers, Gavin
