  1. I never even noticed this myself!
  2. You can keep your money though!
  3. Yeah I'm inclined to agree, thing is the car has had a light front end nudge. So I know at least it's partially out on 1 side, this is the bonnet I borrowed off someone and it fit better than my repaired hood and the reproduction hood.
  4. Yes people like to say something is only for sale at a price someone is willing to pay. However conversely to that, something is only for sale at a price the seller is willing to accept.
  5. I know what you mean, I remember watching this Mazda R100 video on Youtube about 10 years ago and recall the car was being sold around $15k NZD. I was tempted to buy it back then! I also was tempted by an RX-2 coupe for around $17k (but it was modified with a 13B turbo). Both cars are worth a fortune now.. Original R100's are few and far between, just so happens 3 are on the market right now though! I guess people will only sell such things if they can get a price they want for it.
  6. Nice 73 240z in Brown Metallic on BAT. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-datsun-240z-36/
  7. Interesting you say that, there is 3 x Mazda R100's for sale now. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14448-the-global-z-car-s30s130-market-thread/?p=197887 All asking up toward $100k, I do wonder how sustainable that is? I'd love 1, but not at that kind of money. Of course people who know me, know I'm bearish on Australian Real Estate and we're seeing cooling of the market right now, I do wonder if people are flogging off toys first? Hard to predict the future, but if we have a real estate correction, you can be sure that the Classic Car market over here will go down with it. How far that adjustment is, will depend entirely on the make and model and if there is global appeal for it. Aussie Muscle Cars in other words will probably see a bigger correction (in my humble opinion) where as the Classic Japanese stuff has a more global audience.
  8. What's interesting is that 2 of the Mazda R100's are more 'survivor's' than restored examples. I do wonder if the unrestored theme to collector car values will continue to be a thing?
  9. 1971 Mazda R100 M10A Manual https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Mazda-R100-1971/SSE-AD-5082878/?Cr=0 Check out the car stacker! Only yours for $135k AUD.
  10. It must be Mazda R100 season at the moment. https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Mazda-R100-1969/OAG-AD-15316028/?Cr=0 Asking $89,888 (Chinese lucky numbers?)
  11. haha yep, that happens. But just like property probably a lot of time wasters, tyre kickers etc.. maybe only 1 or 2 serious buyers. If you really want it don't mess around and talk turkey early on. .
  12. https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/_/SSE-AD-5083184 $22,500. Greensborough in Victoria. Looks like an honest car, great buying for someone. Little bit of rust bubbles in lower door skin but otherwise probably a relatively rust free car. I can't see it lasting too long.
  13. I asked my Tafe teacher if he would ever buy a car that was in a fire (given he could restore cars the way Ledge in SA does) and he said no, never... That's your answer. . Just saw asking price was $10k, you'd need to be mad.... This car is a much better prospect. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1977-DATSUN-260Z-MANUAL-2-SEATER-COUPE-PROJECT-CAR-RALLY-RACE-RESTORE/272907190555
  14. Somewhat related.. http://flatsixes.com/porsche-culture/humor/study-shows-women-find-men-drive-porsches-attractive/ I was actually trying to find articles that suggest some people will live in abject poverty just to continue to be able to maintain certain cars. I've heard this quoted before about older style Porsche's and single men living in almost empty apartments because their most important possession is their car. Can't seem to find such articles however.
  15. Angry weber fed S20 motor.
  16. Anyone know where this car went to? https://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2010-shannons-melbourne-winter-classic-auction/G6IC56C53DWJA4MF/ Looks like it was originally 903 Blue and a late 71. L24-067113 Would put the VIN # between: HS30 01510 and HS30 01950. It has the later style console, which happened in very late 71.
  17. Well if you're donating to a good cause I'm keen... not in Melbourne until around Christmas though!
  18. http://www.howardinstruments.com.au/ Looks like they do clocks! + Screen printing... Will have to hit these guys up.
  19. Do you mean the original Jute material? Are you selling or giving away? No price listed.
  20. Love it, looks pretty original. Save it if possible. Where did you find her? What was it's original colour? HS30 00340 was 920 Safari Gold. I assume this car was maybe same, hence the repaint? My first ride in a 240z was in a similar Burgundy / Wine red with an L28 in it. I think it was a 73 240z though, wonder where it is now? PS: Looks like another Victim of "it's a tarp!" http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/its-a-trap
  21. These photos highlight the issues I think well. I haven't spent hours adjusting this 1 (reproduction), but when I borrowed a hood off someone else. It almost fit like a glove. Which is why I assumed this shouldn't need much tweaking... I can elongate the mounting holes to move it forward a little, but the raised section at the rear might be because it needs more curvature. Just a bit worried about tweaking a hood to fit the car, if the car is slightly out.
  22. So I think the bonnet on this car was in pretty average shape, but actually the worst part of the car would have to be this rear beaver/valance panel and slam panel section. As you know a while ago I imported the lower half section from a Z supplier in Canada, this piece however was made of really thick gauge steel and with the help of my tafe teacher we tried to re-shape it. Part of the problem was the stamping in the middle, it's quite deep and this means that when we try and curve the piece it's actually being held in place by this stamping. I think the photos will best illustrate the problem. We tried to beat it into shape and then used an English wheel to smooth it out, but we can't get the English wheel into the top section. Notice the bow? So after all that messing about, I said, do you think we could just repair the existing piece? It's going to be a bit of a patch work quilt, but the advantage is that it'a a thinner gauge of steel and more flexible. I've already panel beaten it into shape again (will need more work here) but we know importantly this piece fits perfectly. 1 problem with repairing the existing panel is that I cut a bajillion holes in it removing the spot welds. The zip cutter creates large holes that need to be patched up again. If you're going to remove spot welds find the smallest spot weld cutter possible and use that. I didn't think I'd be using this panel again, but it looks like we will. You can see rather than patch these holes I'm creating a new edge (on each side). If there is 1 thing for certain I'll be learning a lot of welding skills fixing this thing. I'm using Oxy welding here as it will allow me to free form the panel as I go, Mig welds are too hard and brittle and would not allow for much adjustment later.
  23. Yeah that's a bit more like it, Maserati right? I think Mazda's RX Vision was 1 of the most beautiful sports cars I've seen in a long time. Be a shame if it ends up still born however...
  24. haha, yes I can see why it might need extra curvature and I thought of the same thing perhaps with a block of wood underneath, but didn't want to do that on a reproduction panel, especially if the rest of the car was not quite right. I did notice the reproduction hood mount holes appeared smaller (less adjustment) than the factory ones. So may make a template of the factory ones and transfer that onto the reproduction hinges (using a file). I've run out of adjustment on the hinges themselves where they mount to the car. Another thing I noticed was that the grille mounting brackets are way out of whack compared with the grille itself, but I wasn't sure if that was because I 'rebuilt' a grille or because the body had moved around at the front.
