  1. Hastings is just a bit far out unfortunately no real transport to the city. Great looking place though for the money! Compared to what you get elsewhere. Looks like a 20 min drive to Frankanistan (Frankston or as I also say to the missus Frang-a-me-banger *in joke I suppose*). I have been looking at Langwarrin, Frankston, Seaford, all along that coast line etc.. Nice part of Melbourne, spent a load of time down in Sorrento / Portsea as a kid so love that part of Victoria. My grandmother had a holiday home in Tootgarook and we used to go down there all the time. This footage is from 2006 when I was driving down for a weekend in the 240z. If you don't need to be in the city and it's close enough to work / jobs you want to do and within budget I'd say go for it. My experience with real estate agents in Melbourne is that they are all scum! Underquoting is standard (20% under usually) and the last deal I had signed contract and agent sandbagged on giving deposit details to entice another offer into the ring. I missed out as a result. I hate them, hate them, hate them... all liars.
  2. Not sure if makes sense on an FD Rx7. Maybe a 100k + car. But I also think you want to just drive it and enjoy a car. What happens if he gets a stone chip after all that or some knob opens a car door into it? It was great to get an insight into that level of detailing and paint correction. But perhaps over kill? Still cool to see a glass like finish and perhaps hard to appreciate over video. Different in person no doubt.
  3. Crazy level of car detailing and paint correction. The car was bought as a 9,800 mile car. Still had history.
  4. I'm with you and have been doing some research it all smells like the work of Mr Lee's. Just waiting for a slip up. ?
  5. What makes you sure Heartbeat cars has Edward Lee's behind it? I know he pheonixed Edward Lee's and then started sunrise cars, but not sure about Heartbeat. Thought it was a younger bloke running it, seen him driving the cars around, not seen the fat man in em' hehe. Unless Lee's has fronted the Capital and watching on from a distance?
  6. So crowd sourcing has paid off, I tried to find out what the wheels that came with the car were. I could not find anything on them. Turns out that according to Kyusha Shoes they are Fuji Auto Cobras. Which must be rare because even knowing their names I see no information in a Google Search for them. Not listed on. http://kyushashoes.com either.
  7. $80k is a premium price, probably same car would sell for $45k in Japan at most. Not sure what else has been done to it?
  8. What price are they asking? Good to see a Gnose car. But it's a 74+ Fairlady back dated to look early. Not sure I'm a fan of this importer yet. Don't trust any of them along Parramatta Rd. This lot seems to be a new entity with a lot of cash to buy up Classic J-tin mind you they are asking top dollar. The Rx3 Savanna they had looked great but with close to $100k asking price.
  9. Hey Dan, You didn't remember your old username?
  10. Yes and we both know that later 74+ S30z's in Japan are often quite a bit cheaper than the early stuff that gets a Premium price.
  11. RE backdated styling I get the same impression, but not enough photos to tell for sure. It says it's in Ireland, but photos look like Japan still to me.
  12. Nice Fairlady for sale. https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/datsun/240z/datsun-fairlady-z-240z/8119042 Asking £30,000
  13. HS30 00946 is different. https://photos.app.goo.gl/y2vOXGRxguL2yZ0m1 https://www.facebook.com/groups/740335446098903/permalink/1212430325556077/
  14. Jeff the bonnet in my opinion is 1 of the most difficult panels to align and get right on a Z. I'm forever cursed now because I see the flaws in everyone else's bonnet when I go to a club day or meet. Just because I know what to look for and most S30z's have had a light front end nudge. Given how much work I invested in repairing mine and the cost of a reproduction 1 even if they need some tweaking it's hard to go wrong with a new panel. Unfortunately I'm a bit OCD and a perfectionist and will probably go to the effort of obtaining an OEM 1 in good shape if I can find 1. You will notice how much sharper the new panel looks when you fit it. It will really sharpen the loom of the car from the front.
  15. All AU market cars had the TM-1081ZB(s) AM radio. The bad news is they are the most expensive radio to buy often selling for $800 USD+ on eBay. I have lots of photos showing cars in Australia fitted with this unit until the changes in 74 with the 260z. I believe the parts Catalog shows the 8 track player as found in home market cars. But I doubt anyone ordered it back in the day.
  16. Hey Jeff, I have been having the same front-end challenges as you repairing my bonnet and trying to align the front end perfectly. Did you see there is now reproduction hoods? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16797-new-bonnets-are-now-available/ I got myself an aftermarket 1 but it also doesn't quite fit right. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16801-aftermarket-reproduction-bonnet-hood-for-s30z-review/ I am going to check the front-end of my car for squareness next with plumb bob's rulers etc.. I have feeling your car had a front-end hit at some point and was perhaps never put quite right, hence all the wrestling to make stuff fit on your car correctly. This is not uncommon on old S30z's I'm afraid. But if you never check the squareness of it, you'll forever chase your tail trying to get everything right. I'm glad to see you're frustrated with it, not because I like to see people frustrated but because i've gone through the same thing and your video's gave me the impression you had the patience of a saint. It was almost god like, which made me feel inferior lol.. >
  17. Ok I've updated the original thread and split my review into this thread here instead. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16797-new-bonnets-are-now-available/?p=199221 I still think the timing is awfully coincidental to have 2 separate entities making the same part, but if the Muscle Car Parts bonnet is better quality than the 1 I purchased that's indeed good to know. Either way I think I'll be doing my best to obtain a good OEM hood (used) since it's hard to beat the fitment and quality of the original parts. Especially when restoring an early car.
  18. Thanks you replied just before my last reply, the reason I shared this information was that a couple of folks had sent me a PM asking about the quality and fitment of the hood. Obviously interested in buying 1. I'm more than happy for MCP to set the record straight on this and correct me on anything posted so far. If they have gone to the effort of making their own stuff and fitment is as good as OEM I'll happy eat my own words above etc..
  19. Also as an FYI I was in contact with the eBay seller and asked about shipping a bulk load of panels to Australia, if I was trying to step on anyone's toes I would have imported a bunch for sale myself and tried to undercut MCP but I see no point in trying to offer the same part from multiple people. As stated I think their price is reasonable.
  20. I'm almost certain MCP haven't tooled up to reproduce their bonnet from scratch. I was in contact with an individual on eBay in the US who was reproducing bonnets for S30z's and knowing how these things work, often there is 1 manufacturer and multiple resellers. I'm not trying to tart anyone's reputation, but wanted to share my photos of the product I received which I believe is the most likely to be the same product manufactured by the same people. Hence I'm curious if the MCP bonnet has the same markings. Note in the threads I linked to at least 1 other person mentioned having to add more curvature to a reproduction hood. Why reinvent the wheel after all? Here is the eBay sellers items. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14558-the-ebay-thread-2-post-ebay-parts-here/?p=195490 You can almost make out very similar pressings with the fault in the inner frame area visible across all of them (indicating the same dye or buck was in use). I am not trying to slow sales for reproduction stuff and indeed want to see more stuff made and happy to see it get sold (as stated the MSC price is better than what I paid), and I have avoided tarring up their Facebook (I did ask for underside photos and images of fitment though!) which nobody seems to have provided yet. So until someone can convince me these are not the same panel I'm not sure I should be deleting anything. After all I'm just trying to provide useful information here. I still think buying a reproduction hood is going to be better than fixing a bent or rusted hood in many cases and be a cheaper alternative with a better finish. But if the crowd is displeased I can split the thread and just refer to it as 'reproduction hood' with no reference to MCP.
  21. So I was going to wait to review this bonnet until after I'd compared with another OEM bonnet on my car (HS30 00150) because I am still not sure if all the alignment issues I'm having are due to the car being tweaked or if the bonnet I repaired was an issue or if my reproduction bonnet is a problem. But since a few will probably want to buy 1 of these I figured I'd post up my initial impressions in comparison to the original hood I've been repairing. First impressions are it looks good. I bought it off Yahoo! Auctions a few months back and couldn't tell in the photos that it was a reproduction item. As far as i was aware nobody was making them at the time, hence why I thought it was NOS. The marks you see in the photo are from stick tape residue etc.. The main differences thought are when you turn it over and look at the pressings on the frame side of things. Do you see the ripple long the folded edge? Perhaps not such a big deal to some, but it was immediately obvious to me as I had worked every inch of my OEM bonnet during repair and tried to iron out any such flaws. This next shot perhaps shows it more clearly, once mounted on the car you can't see it from the front, but if you open the hood you can. (looking in from the engine bay). Down the side of the bonnet you can see the outer skin and frame has gaps (doesn't look even). Poor photo quality sorry. This fold looks particularly poor. My guess is that this is caused by a worn out 'buck' or 'dye' that is used to make these bonnets. The lip is sort of folded over in an "it will do fashion". Here is perhaps 1 of the bigger issues though, the inner frame (along leading edge of the bonnet) is not smooth and flat. This "damage" looks to have been there from the pressing process. Usually you can tell if an OEM bonnet has been hit before because this area is damaged. For comparison here is HS30 01415's bonnet (which is dirty but straight - there's a joke there somewhere). Here is a stamping you won't find on the OEM bonnets. Sticker found on reproduction hood. Side angle shot. Showing hump in the middle. So I am not 100% sure on this last point but having fitted both bonnets to the car, my feeling is that the raised center hump on the OEM hood is a little more sharp and defined and perhaps a bit taller, where as this bonnet it seems a little flatter and less defined (again indicating a worn out buck or dye was used), but given that it's painted flat black that could also be adding to the illusion so it's difficult to tell with 100% certainty, if I get a chance to measure the depth I will see if that reveals anything. So now, after seeing those images, do you think this Z432 has an OEM hood or reproduction? https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/AM17/Amelia-Island/lots/r169-1970-nissan-fairlady-z-432/418110 My guess based on the pressing of the inner frame seen here. Is that it's a reproduction piece. But far and away the biggest issue I've had is this. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16697-nissan-s30z-chassis-datum-points/?p=198179 You can see the curvature at the rear is not quite right. I am not sure yet if this is because of my car and it's alignment or if the bonnet itself needs tweaking. I have taken a profile of my old bonnet on the "good side" (side that wasn't hit) and this profile indicates that this bonnet is too flat and not curved (concave) enough. Where as the OEM 1 I borrowed off someone fit like a glove. A couple of wooden blocks and a hit with a ball pein hammer in the right spots would probably 'correct' this, but that coupled with all the other 'flaws' may sway your decision on a reproduction bonnet. I realise not everyone will share the same concerns are me or care and that's fine. But I am still considering finding a good OEM bonnet (used) if I can. However I will first do some measuring of my car to see if it's still in correct alignment. So if anyone does go ahead with the part offered through Muscle Car Spares I'd be interested in your feedback, it's possible my bonnet is from another source and therefore maybe there is no such issue with their panel, but I'd be surprised if that's the case.
  22. Don't see this every day. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/274380840
  23. I believe this is the same bonnet I bought recently. Interesting to see how others find the fit and quality once received. I've put a review of my bonnet here. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16801-aftermarket-reproduction-bonnet-hood-for-s30z-review/ It cost me more to import my bonnet than the asking price here. So this seems like a good deal especially if the bonnet is better than the aftermarket bonnet I purchased. If anyone buys this bonnet please post photos of fitment and the frame area as shown in my review for comparison.
