Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
I reckon Stivva's old car, with early S30Z tail lamps, G-nose kit and set of Triples... would be a fun road car. . For some reason I thought it had Triples on it previously? -
Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
It's an odd car, looking very "Americanised" with the v8 conversion or whatever was put in it with an automatic. It also has "Datsun" badges on the fenders, but you can tell it's a home market car. RHD, Speedometer, Grille, (no clock so can't tell if it was a Z-S (basic) or Z-L (luxury) model), rear defrost glass, hazard switch, Z-badged horn button(which likely means the steering wheel is more shallow than export markets - deeper for leg room with taller westerners), it has the front bumper overriders which are not common on home market cars. So it looks to have been "DE-Fairlady'd" at some point. I can't help but think this car was imported to Australia at some stage, registered with V8 etc. and then de-registered. Did the seller import it himself or buy it off someone else? It shouldn't need engineering approval IF it's only got an L-series motor. However Australian compliance may be necessary, although that's a minor concern to be honest. There is evidence of considerable rust issues in the firewall, chassis rails, radiator support etc.. this is a big project despite it's otherwise "ok" first glance. -

Importing Panels From North America (Mostly 240Z)
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Well got a roof in today from the US. Small ding in it, should be easy to fix. You can see why they rusted though, check out all those folds! -
Hi mate, My other roof came in today and I am happy with it (not perfect, but what 40 year old panel is?) anyway here is the skin I was going to use if I couldn't find a better 1. https://photos.app.goo.gl/egRzHEXxQpKMcIYX2 Hopefully the pictures are explanatory, the roof has had someone oxy weld at the rear (quite skillfully) and hardly any distortion, so would only need slight skim of filler. The other sections will need a bit more work (rear edge etc..). I am after $500 for it, you have first refusal.

Hey Ian, Amayama is an aggregator for dealer stock globally, so it's good for genuine parts when you have a part no. So although you ordered via another site it's part of the same inventory as you found out. I find a lot of parts in the UAE for S30Z's (consumables). You can try rare part numbers in there all day long, but I've already knocked myself out trying and not found anything that's NLA when you ask dealers in Australia (for example).

Belief and local support and investment are different things. For example with the SR311 and P510's there was Nissan factory built race cars. But Nissan never brought a factory built race S30Z to these shores (apart from the works rally cars - to my knowledge). So it was left to privateers to go out and race them, but often without the budgets to buy all the fruit in the Sports Option Catalogs. It just seems a shame they didn't get an opportunity to really shine here in terms of racing, like they did in the US.

Do you have the part no. handy? https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs This company I use to order Rx7 parts when I have the genuine part no. Often better prices than through dealers.

Looks like a Fairlady Z (not 240z).. it has home market grille and speedometer. -
I just wanted to reply back to this thread and let Gordon know I read his book. I was on a long haul flight last night and it took me about 2 hours to get from cover to cover, it was the kind of book that once I started I didn't want to put it down. It really helped fill in some of the gaps for me, having not lived through these era's and only read about bits and pieces over the years and heard stories from others - word of mouth etc.. The ingenuity of the early racing car drivers (many of whom were farmers) and the dedication and love / passion for the sport etc.. I will certainly look at the early Datsun Fairlady's in a different light now, having read about the exploits of the old U20 powered cars and the fact that AU delievered cars got all the fruit (unlike in North American markets). I also found the racing history of the Datsun 1000's and 1200's really interesting. I liked the stories about John (Rockerbox) Roxburgh, and his overzealous head bolt tightening technique. More details about him and the racing team shared in this thread. The story about Peter Janson and his starting grid shenanigans was a good laugh indeed. I actually stumbled across Peter a while ago, looking at warehouses and stumbled across his inner city Warehouse conversion - which inspired "The Bunker" at 6 Kirks Lane. Anyway I thought it was worth giving this a bit of a bump up and possibly a few others will want to have a read and enjoy the stories like I did. 1 thing to note however is that I was hoping there might be some more details on the works team rally effort for the 240z in Australia, or even the old Prince Skyline's that were raced at Bathurst etc.. Perhaps not something you were too involved with Gordon? It also seems that S30Z's never got the full factory support needed to really give them an opportunity to shine in racing here back in the day, which is a real shame.

Thanks mate, they look like OEM to me. I am actually trying to get a pair of 904 white painted buckets at the moment. Nice and patina looking to suit HS30 01415 to replace the rusted 1 If that falls through I'll let you know.
-
Pics of rear side? Not quite sure how to go about repairing this however.

Someone in Ballarat owes me 2, bit of a storm in a teacup however to get them lol.. best off buying in pairs or singles to make a set of 4. I'm still looking for 2 myself.

Maybe, maybe not. The car deserves to be displayed with the Topy's and hubcaps. ? As nice as those wolfrace wheels look. It would just add value in my opinion. It's an otherwise fantastic car. Interior hasn't been restored as far as I'm aware and was left original.

Why are you building a cage? Do you plan to track it? Floors have certainly had work before. Bit disappointing to find it though. -

Much want.. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v530594790 Starting bid: 100,000 yen (AU$1,216.00) -
Alan do you know if these cars are legitimately selling for these prices? The early Fairlady Z-L I was a little surprised it sold that high, but I know values have been moving up. But on the flip side I see some S30Z's struggle above $50k (which often look like better value). I've seen a few auctions where I question the bidding (kind of like eBay), but is a good early Fairlady Z-L now worth close to $100K AUD? It makes me wonder why a car like Albert's HS30 00675 doesn't appeal to a Japanese buyer? https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/datsun/240z/datsun-240z-1971/7296647

I don't get it, this thing is currently at $60k AUD+
-
I actually wanted Lachlan to get it, so he could restore it for a customer, help his small business etc.. I was interested in spares more than anything else to help with my own restoration. . I also wanted to know what # she was... see if she's on my register or not. I suspect not. May call Guy when I get back to Australia and ask.
