  1. I suspect when you fit the torsion bars the nose of the bonnet is going to sit up.. I think the reproduction bonnet is slightly flatter than it should be. It needs a bit more curvature. I also noticed on mine that it sat a little too close to the windscreen cowl panel compared to the OEM bonnet. Wondering if you'll encounter the same issue?
  2. I very much doubt you can click -> add to cart and checkout. I believe these are only made at certain intervals and require a minimum order.
  3. Jeff my reproduction bonnet had the same gap at the rear near the passenger side of windscreen between cowl and inspection flap. I think I'll have to wooden block it and bend it down like you did. Re: opening bonnet and the stay being on the wrong side. If you fit the torsion bars the bonnet will stay up to give you time to go around and put the stay in place. Without the torsion bars the hood will fall back down. Also the torsion bars will change the play in the front hinges(will eliminate some of it), but also may again alter how the bonnet sits... Been there done that.. Have fun. I've given up for now and plan to measure up how square mine is, but also will use my white 240z or #51 as a reference since both cars haven't had a front end hit and will serve as best template for measurements. If I get down to see the white car I'll try and take some measurements and share them.

  6. Sydney house prices have fallen 7 months straight. Melbourne is going flat if not backwards... But we still don't know what happens next, US interest rate rises and a coming end to the business cycle with Trump at the wheel.. anything is still possible.
  7. Perhaps I should rename this thread, classic car driving forces? https://journal.classiccars.com/2018/03/27/everyman-classics-well-british-auction/ Has to be said I do like the Alfa Romeo Montreal, don't see them often. Very rare. Classic car auction houses constantly under-estimate the power of JDM's YO!

  10. More sections are always welcome. Although these don't usually rust badly, but they do get beaten up good!
  11. Yep, sounds like another reason for local models to fetch more coin now too! Given the hassle around importation, who would want it? Unless of course a car has been fully restored and is completely clean. Example: https://www.facebook.com/datsun.club.3/ However I'm wondering if this undercoating stuff on Mustang's is the result of factory applied coatings or dealer added / aftermarket coatings applied later by customers/owners? The other thing is, if you're importing engines (where gaskets like headgaskets could contain asbestos) that sounds risky.. Brakes like MK63s in used condition? Hmmm... It all sounds too hard basket.
  12. Apparently true, a bit like "Let them eat cake." We took 1 on a Rally through Morocco a few years back, good sturdy car..
  13. Interesting concept.
  14. Henry Ford said you can have any colour so long as it's black.
  15. Yeah the lock hole isn't big enough and the skin is a bit short at the top edge under the windscreen A pillar and front fender. I need to mig along the edge of mine to close the gap. Given my time again I'd probably have repaired the original skin by replacing the lower section. Live and learn..
  16. Ahh so that's what that goop is called!
  17. Further proof the eBay advert was a scam, that car is currently in Hong Kong after being sold at a Pickles Auction in 2014 and then placed on eBay in 2016. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1924-cars-for-sale-3rd-party-sites-ebay-carsales-etc/?p=173552 The image URLs are broken but photos from that post are cached by Google here. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=site:viczcar.com+pickles+240z&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=UrWZZpuO4ZCwzM%253A%252CzsiYZQ4BgHHZ3M%252C_&usg=__SHWnELvo8jn0f0P14fWdrhpnnsg%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjbnZuxgYvaAhWMWbwKHQ9iDvoQ9QEILTAB#imgrc=_ As you can see now it's in HK it has a rear wing, (bloody eBay fender mirrors) etc.. and looks a little in need of a good detail again. I can't recall what it sold for on eBay. 18. Looks like an "honest" example on BAT right now. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-46/ Might have been 918 orange originally however.. CURRENT BID: $9,150 ENDS IN: 6:26:14 Could be a bit of a bargain!
  19. Slowly making progress on rear slam panel.
  20. Looking forward to the video to see how your 1 fits.. They do seem like a very acceptable reproduction item, just haven't got mine to align as nice as I'd like yet and don't want to bend it to suit the car if the car isn't true.
  21. YoLo https://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Datsun-Z-Series-240z/323168131663 $26,500 Buy it now.
  22. Decided to try and remove the bog from this hatch I've had a while now.. There is bog on the underside too.. So I used a propane torch and burnt it off (lots of ventilation), but I didn't want to use a flap disk or kick up lots of dust. It wasn't quite so bad underneath...I was expecting more rust, but really just bad dents. The 1 spot of disappointment was near the edge on passenger side. I could see bog in it before stripping it, but it appears that instead of actually try and patch it, they just filled this rust hole with bog on both sides and called it a day! I test fitted on the car to see how the panel gaps are (very good). Panel gaps. This will be a side project I work on in my spare time, I'll undo the spot welds and try and separate the skin and frame, then panel beat and shrink it where applicable, patch the rust and put it back together... I've already put together a hatch, but this is more about improving my skills.
