luvemfast Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Nice to see I'm not the only spaz to take off EFI, for triples Looks pretty tough too Quote
bullzed Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Cheers Simon, see, 2+2's can look desirable too Quote
Roberto Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 The car looks really good. Nice touch. Quote
KatoKid Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 What wheels are the steelies Zac and where from? Quote
bullzed Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 They're 15x8 and 15x10 zero offset steelies from ToyParts Industries here in Brisbane. I finally got on to him about them but he's closed down now Quote
PZG302 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Option 1 garage up here in Brisvegas should also be able to do them.... Link to their website......http://www.option1garage.com.au/default.htm The steel wheels aren't listed on the website, but last time I was at the shop they had them on the showroom floor. Quote
bullzed Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 We took a photoshoot in the Indooroopilly underground car park last night, here is the fruit of our labour! I managed to get the stock 280ZX series 2 alloy centre caps onto my steelies and I refreshed the paint on them and the hood emblem. I'm considering another 5mm of drop to get the wheels closer to the guards! Quote
Stivva Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Looks awesome bro! I am digging the steelies. Still not sold on the tail lights though. Carbs are a manly touch! Quote
bullzed Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 So last night I took the Z for a blat and the engine starts missing horribly at around 5.5k revs, can't get over 70km/h in 2nd. Not only that but checked the engine and there's red residue on the plugs and fuel and dust is pooling something horrible in all 6 of my velocity stacks. I don't know if it's just going out of tune but it's using heaps of fuel and it's getting a little ridiculous. Anyone had this problem? Also found a small oil leak around the head oil is blowing through the filler cap.. It's all properly vented to a carbon canister so I don't even know what's going on. Anyone got any ideas? Reckon it's flooding at high revs? Weak spark maybe? Quote
bullzed Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 It's been a long time since I've updated but the stuttering problem disappeared after 2 days, probably crap fuel or crap stuck in the jets. Anyways got some new rims, Neale Raker 15x7 -19 and 15x8 -32. I've looked around for other sets but could only find some 14x6's sold 4 years ago in Melbourne. I've been offered $1500 without tyres, considering I swapped them for my set of XXR 513's it makes me happy. Seeing as they're 2 piece alloy centres and steel barrels I'm contemplating getting the 7's banded 2 inches outwards to 15x9 -70ish and flogging my spacers. Anyone know a place to get steel wheels banded? Quote
Agno Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Widening wheels by banding them is illegal here in Australia, if my memory serves me correct the rule is you can only weld one continuous weld around the diameter of a wheel to modify it ie you can only band wheels to make them more narrow. Send a message to Whitehorse Industries and see how much making a new barrel would cost. They do all of the lips for Simmons wheels so they are pretty good at what they do: http://www.metalspinnersaust.com.au/ Quote
bullzed Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Oh wow I never knew... freaking australia huh? Well they're already 2 piece as they've been machined and bolted into bigger barrels. It'll have to be a custom barrel as I want such a negative offset! Quote
bullzed Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 So I seem to have destroyed my second starter in 4 months. The magnets inside get ripped out and bend around the centre and locks it up. Would an RB starter be any better or do I need a high torque? Keep in mind the engine has been messed around with quite a lot. EDIT: Went for a drive last night and took a bit of footage. Here are the interesting bits! http://www.facebook.com/v/4059600221382 Quote
bullzed Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 So time for an update on my hunk'o'junk. I got defected a week ago today going down the Western Freeway to the wreckers by a bike cop. They got me for ride height and wheels outside of the guards. Height was 55mm and wheels were 17mm out of the guards in the rear. Nonetheless they gave me 2 hours to get to the wreckers and home but they canaried the car. They've given me until 12th of september to sort my crap out, either deregister or fix all the problems they wrote down and put it over DOT. So naturally I've decided to fix it and show QLD police that they don't win. I've got a mate to cut my full length body rails out and reweld a new pair that are inset up into the body to give me another 50mm ride height clearance. That'll bring me to 105mm but it's not stopping there. To fix the rear wheels too I've just bought a pair of SSR Fins in 15x9.5 - 27 to go on the rears without spacers, they should be 20mm further in than my current 15x8 -72 rears at the moment. I'll be running a pair of 235/60-15 racing radials on them which will elevate the car another 20 ~ 25mm from it's current height which will completely fix the height issue and the wheels outside of guards problem. I'll go get it checked by QLD transport, get it back on the road and get back to what matters most, cruising. Quote
Agno Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 mmm... fins. where did you find such epically rad wheels? Quote
PZG302 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Zac, I would be borrowing a standard set of rims,or rims at 7" wide, to get through the inspection. You are only allowed to go and inch wider than standard, which IIRC is only 6" on a 280ZX. Depending on where you have to go to clear the defect as to how strict they will be, but I would be more conservative and get the obvious things as close to standard as possible, ie wheels and tyres, and make sure it is clean and you present it as tidy as possible for the inspection. Quote
bullzed Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 I have a few contacts from my other forum! And yeah it'll be on stock ZX wheels and tires for the inspection but for road use it'll have the fins on. Quote
bullzed Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Have now unlocked two new modes for my Z! STREET MODE: aaaand SHOW MODE: Street mode features a ride height of 106mm all round, 235/60-15 rear radials and 205/65-15 steerers in the front on my Neale Rakers. Show mode features a ride height of 40mm all round, 185/60-15's on the rear and 195/50-15's on the front, SSR mesh 15x9 -11 and 15x9.5 -27. Also have a new face to my engine! Can't wait to get this thing registered, I miss it so much. Will be taking it to Sydney for Hellaflush in December and then to the February Jap Meet out at Banyo! Quote
bullzed Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 So not much has happened to the Z while it's been deregistered, found out I have a HUGE amount of axial play in the dizzy shaft, 1~2mm. This is causing a massive buzzing sound and vibration phasing in and out at idle and causing the rev counter to go nuts. I'm currently using the electronic ignition dizzy with ignition module, what would be the next best thing? Has anyone used pertronix? So far it doesn't seem like it's affecting driving up and down the street but the last thing I want is to get fresh rego and get stranded somewhere. Quote
bullzed Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 So this is a bit of an update. Quite a few things have happened to this since the last time I posted on here. Pertronix Ignition Fuel Reg and return pipe fitted USDM 280ZX Fender mirrors Debadged bonnet Orange bumper lenses for both park and indicator New front lip, supposedly locally made about 20 years ago. 'Datsun 280ZX' stamped into it 15x7.5 -7 and 15x10 -25 SSR XR4's, fresh bolts and rubber. New ideas on the cards include: C110 Skyline rear tail lights and surround Custom pantera hatch ZG wide flares (possibly) Paint job (finally) New 2.5" exhaust from headers back (very soon) RB20DET gearbox Big thanks to Jason for all his help lately to get the car to where it is. luvemfast Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 10" on the rears Awesome What width rubber you running? fit well? Quote
