luvemfast Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Either that or this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canard When in doubt . . . google Awsome, Peter's bolting a wing off a jet to the car Quote
peter mc Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 yes they are little wings for more down force Quote
luvemfast Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 yes they are little wings for more down force They must work cos quails and emu's have little wings and they have so much downforce they can't fly! Quote
peter mc Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Front Bumper Canards are the perfect answer to aerodynamically tune the handling for the front of a car. Made of lightweight and durable carbon graphite composites, Front Bumper Canards help increase front downforce at high speeds. The added downforce stabilizes the cars chassis during hard cornering and increases traction for faster lap times. Quote
kolonelklink Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Pete this thing looks fantastic. big Kudos. -Peter Quote
620Z Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Yes I am aware the rear spoiler isn't for show. But I still reckon it's a bit big. Mine is off a V8 supercar as well and I took around 150-200mm off each side. I still have plenty of down force. Each to there own. It was just an observation. The "Canards" sound interesting. I dare say fine tuning of the car including aero can't really happen till she's on the road errrr track. Cheers Quote
Scando Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I like how you've attached the wing. I'd like to see some more close up pics of where it attaches to the body if you get a chance. Quote
620Z Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Yeah me too. I thought it was an unusual mount. For mine I reinforced the rear hatch and attached mine there. So I was surprised to see the cuts in the hatch. Quote
peter mc Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 hi all the wing mounts to the body for two reasons , 1 the rear hatch weighs 2kg and has no strength and 2 they work better if they are mounted to the chassis as all the force is transmitted to the suspension ps had the car weighed to day and it came in at 830kg Quote
chartoo Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 830kg! :0 Damn take her to Burger King or you will break her LOL Good weight reduction tho Quote
Scando Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 ps had the car weighed to day and it came in at 830kg Wow, that's insane! hi all the wing mounts to the body for two reasons , 1 the rear hatch weighs 2kg and has no strength and 2 they work better if they are mounted to the chassis as all the force is transmitted to the suspension Yeah, that's why I'd like to see some more pics. I was thinking if i go for a big wing I'd mount it like that and buy a fibreglass hatch and do it similar to what you've done. That way I could easily just unbolt it and put the original hatch back on at anytime if I wanted to. Quote
620Z Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Wow that is light Peter. You will get some awesome times around the track in that. Quote
peter mc Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 will post more pics for you scando. will test the mounts if they work ok will make you some Quote
. Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Looks great!!! I was looking at the photo of the wing and rear hatch thinking about not being able to open the hatch. Do you have a way around this? If not, have you thought about shortening the hatch, so it ends after the window. Then permanently fitting the remaining portion of the hatch between your wing mounts? Its hard to tell from the photos but I suspect the hatch might make it past the wing then. I suspect you don't get into the boot much anyway but it could be handy occasionally. Quote
peter mc Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 yer the rear hatch just clips on .two clips at the top and two mounts at the bottom comes of in 20 seconds. fuel cell is in the back so it has to come of . Quote
Scando Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 will post more pics for you scando. will test the mounts if they work ok will make you some Thanks heaps! Even just the pics would be great, it's pretty easy for me to get stuff fabricated cheap down here if I know what I want. Cheers Quote
peter mc Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Soooo what did i do this weekend..... Well i was very busy trying to enclose the front intercooler and radiator area, also incorporated some break ducts into the front opening. I was also able to start making my intercooler pipes. Quote
C.A.R. Posted December 12, 2010 Author Posted December 12, 2010 Very neat mate ; I see Stathi has started on the wiring too Quote
peter mc Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Hi All, Just thought i would do a bit of an update coz it has been a while...... Over the last 3 days i have nearly pulled all my hair out wiring the car, i was going to get my auto lec friend to do it but he was to busy so i had to nut it out myself..... Not really my forte but it is done now. Quote
NZeder Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Nice work on the wiring - I know what you mean - I have been working on mine over Xmas/New Years. Well done on the work - it takes time to get the wiring looking good. Quote
PeterAllen Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 ...Well I was very busy trying to enclose the front intercooler and radiator area,.. Peter - Sorry I missed this post earlier but that is terrific how you have created that enclosure to prevent escaping cold air. Also, my panels forward of the radiator surround and the surround itself look like fried bacon, you've given me some ideas on how to kill two birds with one stone - thanks Quote
peter mc Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 yer nice way to clean the area up and get the air to go ware i need it, the brake duct will work a treat . Quote
