I just dropped the car off at the panel beaters for another paint job. Somehow the car managed to get some distinct looking individual scratches down the sides. But not all is bad, because due to the satin paint, the panel beaters can not match the finish and have to do a whole new paint job.

So I think I may buy myself new flares and a new spoiler from Top Stage. Has any bought their gear before? The reason I ask is my flares have a couple of imperfections and I don't want to purchase flares with imperfections again.

Yeah all the fibreglass on my car is from Topstage. All very good. Flares are perfect but a little thin in material for my liking, possibly meant to be like that as all my other panels and parts are nice and rigid. He uses the same mould for the carbon bits so no imperfections.

Why not just use abit of filler to get your flares smooth and save a few hundred bucks.

Easier to replace IMO, I am over playing with body filler these days. I am also thinking I might colour code them and the spoiler to the car.

I have a Topstage wing i can sell you if you like..cheaper of course, ive decided to go spoilerless. If you decide to go Topstage flares i'd be happy to swap for yours as in planning to chop up my flares for some customisation.

I cant really comment on Otomotos flares myself, but there was a for sale thread with a guy selling them about a month ago along with Rota wheels (previously owned by Dewit) and the flares looked rough as.

A small problem occurred today when the insurance agent told me they wanted to pay out 1/3 of the quoted repair price.

Any tips ones dealing with these insurance guys?

Similar thing happened to my old skyline which was rear ended. I ended up taking it to another panel shop who  argued that my candy apple paint cannot be blended etc. And in the end they paid.

My suggestion take it to another panel shop that deals with your insurance company frequently like a preffered repairer and if they say your satin paint is hard to colour match you might have a better chance. Just let the panel shop deal directly with them.

Funny story and to be honest I am shocked here but...

The repairer I went to was a preferred repairer. The problem the assessor has is that my car is "a piece of shit" and isn't worth the money being quoted to repair it. He also said he wouldn't pay $2000 for the car and that any cheaper example of the model online is in better condition.

Now, I am not one to jump the gun here, but my guess is that he is a Holden man.

Never fear, he is calling me back to see if I accepted his offer tomorrow, and if I can't come to a resolve then the Financial Ombudsman will. I will also be visiting a second repairing to get a second quote to gain an average price.

What a dickhead.  You should provide him with a link to your build thread so he knows exactly what has gone into it.

Go get several quotes and call head office and tell them the situation and ask for a different assessor. Can i ask what insurance company your with? Sound really unprofessional.

ouch dude! that's messed up.

You could link the assessor here to see the build thread, but id wager that he probably doesn't have the iq to make it past the first paragraph.

do you have the option to call the company he works for, speak to someone there in customer service (manager) and complain about being treated unfairly and disrespectfully by the assessor? Im sure any company would be annoyed to hear that a branch of their customer face doesn't respect the people who ultimately pay their wages. End result is that persons bs attitude is going to cost them clients, which ends up affecting their bottom line.

make sure if you do that, record it all, because if it shows to be a 'common theme' the Ombudsman will love to hear about it.

If I could buy a car like yours in that kind of condition (hell even with the scratches) I wouldn't be spending countless hours doing rust repair work.

It seems like you have some good advice to go on so far and are on the right track to getting it sorted out.

I wasn't that concerned, he was very gentle with the old girl.

He might suffer from mechaphilia - seriously a word of warning this documentary is weird, very weird....

Just went through similar with my FD RX-7 in Ireland, they wanted to offer 3,900 euro for it and said RX-8's are only selling for X amount of dollars. I don't know how he can even compare Marquee's like that? In the end I managed to get $5,000 euro but I had to wrestle with their evaluation firm. Photos of the car before accident damage helped a lot and I bombarded them with other similar examples on the market priced higher (and often not in as good condition).

They will attempt to pay you nothing, stick to your guns and get a second quote!

If the other party is at fault get quotes to repair and deal with the other party or their insurance direct. A good panel shop should be able to help.

I had similar situation with my ute and found out to late the best way to get the repair done the way I wanted.

Hope this is of some help.

It is actually shannons. Do I am getting another quote and will go from there. I am going to decline his offer this afternoon and are what he comes up and go from there.

Keep fighting, the insurance company needs to look after shareholders first and policy holders second, so theyre always going to try to pay out as little as possible. Good luck.

If you need to prove that 2k wont buy a car like yours, point him in the direction of Shannon's own auction results

Disappointing that a Shannons assessor has that attitude. I have never had any dramas with Shannons for any of my cars. We must be lucky up here in brisvegas with the staff they have.

I'm very surprised also I've had good experiences with them myself. I would also file a complaint if he told you the car is worth 2k. Bit of an insult to the Shannon's name if you ask me.

Shannon's insured my 240 for $15,000 without even seeing it and after I sent them photos it went up to $25,000 that was before it had the motor fitted.
