bronze260z Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 http://www.shannons.com.au/pages/auctions/lot.jsp?id=AQ5V50DE7H6151OR I was looking at car insurance on line and came across this clean looking 240z Quote
dalee Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 This was posted up in another thread. ID plate is 151 not 15 per shannons details. I agree, its a very nice ca Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 19, 2010 Moderators Posted February 19, 2010 I'm planning on going there as Shannons is only 4 mins away from me. I'm curious what it will go for. If bids are low, I'll stick my hand up! hahahaha.. Auction is in March I believe. Quote
stewk240 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I heard the owner tried to sell it a year ago and would not part with it unless for the right price...so expect it to be passed in again...hopefully it will sell for about $30K+ and it will put a decent price on all our cars I will attend hopefully!!! Bruce Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 nice looking car I might pop along as well, its not too far from my place. see you there cheers Bruce Quote
KatoKid Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I'm thinking of going as well...curiosity is a bitch! Quote
sydney mike Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Does anyone know if it's a matching #'s? Quote
pantah Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 This car is also listed on AMC ( Australian Muscle Cars). The asking price was 28K....... Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Yeah I seem to remember it was on ebay for about $29,000. Funny that Shannons value it at $15000 to $20000. Owner is a bit optimistic with the asking price I think. Quote
Priestley Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 That looks great. Has anyone had a look in person? I imagine it could be sent to japan and sold for a decent profit if someone had the time and money. Also - "the original Datsun 240Z was so good it even went back into production a second time, with the release of re-manufactured examples to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original." I've never heard that before. Can someone point me to more info? Sounds similar to the Z-tune R34 Skylines. Was it done in Japan or Australia? Quote
WogsRus Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 in the US Nissan offered the 240z as a re manufactured car with new bodies and whole new car, cost was about $35000 US per car. All made from old stock where possible Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 3, 2010 Moderators Posted March 3, 2010 We shall see on the 15th of March.. Quote

All made from old stock where possible Sorry, you have that wrong, bodies weren't new. What actually happened was Nissan USA found some good condition 240Z's, and had them rebuilt them back to original specifications. Basically most parts except the bodies were new or rebuilt. Original engine, gearbox and diff were rebuilt. Bodies were stripped, rust repaired, repainted and interiors retrimmed. I have a copy of the restoration checklist which specifies which parts were to be replaced, rebuilt, replated, or reused. Quote
Priestley Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Thanks Mr Camouflage. Its a shame they only did that in the US. Might do some googling to get some more info. Quote
Bruce Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Did anyone get along to Shannons last night to see what this went for? cheers Bruce Quote

It is as tired as the ones from the 70's tho. Quote
xa1973 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Shannons website says $17500 Thats far short of the original proposed 28 to 30k mark...Im surprised it wasnt passed in... Quote
Timwell Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 like I said in the other post: its original ys but its not great...there is rust in the firewall near the battery which from my experience means rust in everyother usual place. The engine bay looks tired......this car is definatly a resto job... And the colour.....yes its original but dont we all just want a red, white or silver zed (lime yellow is the best BTW)...this mustard/gold car will need a respray to push the value up. Quote
bluerat Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I was a bit late getting on to this, It would of been interesting to look at the delevery documents and see when it was sold new, being such an early number? Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 That 240Z sold in the range that shannons expected (15 to 20 thousand). The $30,000 price tag was a somewhat optimistic owners asking price. Maybe they were misinformed as to its value in Australia. I wonder if its staying here or going back to Japan. Quote
