620Z Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I have been asked by James (The 370Z man) if I could ask around to see if people could share some old historical photo's of their classic Zeds. I think he is mainly after 69 models but is happy to see other models of pretty stock Zeds. It would seem he would like to possibly use some of these pictures for the article or promotional reasons with links from old Zeds to the new 370Z being the theme. So if you have some you would like to share then post them up here. He will check them out on here and contact me if he is interested and I can put him onto you. Lets see what we get. Regards Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted February 27, 2009 Administrators Posted February 27, 2009 Len Brennan showed me some pics of his first 240z when he bought it in the 70's and raced it. It was a 1970 from memory. Not sure I still have Len's phone number it is on this forum somewhere though. Quote

chris240 Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Lurch, maybe we could dress you & Craig up in flares, & paisley shirts with wide collars and some platforms, get some grooovy chicks in miniskirts and well take some pics of you both standing next to a zed while holding a copy of Led Zeppelin 1 arrrr forgot you have short hair....need a wig. hehehe. sorry had to say it ! Actually I wonder If Ive still got my paisley shirts from 1988.. Hey Josh, we should do it...with your frizzy hair, you look like youve been transplanted straight from 1970-73. Quote
nizm0zed Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 that'd make for an awesome car meet/show everyone dresses up in the same period of the cars, making sure you have the correct acessories, eg watches, sunnies, no mobile phones, and then go to a retro style cafe or diner. make sure you talk and act the same way from the period too. Quote
620Z Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 That's not a bad idea Chris. Maybe we should save that for the next Thredbo Trip and have a period day when we meet on the oval and for dinner that night. Ha Ha. Someone will have to remind me for the next big trip. Quote
Zedback Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Not stock but may be of interest. These two came from the "Castrol Rally Manual 2", published October 1972 by Patrick Stevens Limited, London. There are a couple more B&W's of Z rallying in the book. Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 8, 2009 Moderators Posted June 8, 2009 I know it's an old posting, but when I had my suspension bits sand blasted, the guy who did it happened to have a pic of a zed hanging on his office wall. It turned out he used to race one in 1973 when he bought it new and in all the pics he showed me, showing it evolving from a standard zed with all the body roll to a 300 Hp, bored / stroked, triple 48mm Dellorto monster! Later on, it was sold to Gordon Dobie who kept racing it for a while... Just thought others would like to see some Australian zed racing history... Quote
Scando Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 That's awesome. Would be interesting to find out where the car is now. Quote

I think they might still need some of these pics. I know they were still promoting 370z.com.au recently. That's a good find and a great looking race car. Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Dimitri, I think thats now the Cantwell car, is it not? Quote
Lynton Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Great pics! Seeing Gordon Dobie's name on the side mudguard does anyone know what this guy is doing now? I last remember Gordon retiring and selling his workshop on the Beach Road Hampton he was a wealth of information and engineering experience back then he did work on my 1600 sports, my 2000 sports 260Z coupe and my 2+2 he must have some photos that we would think were amazing I am sure and he was a nice guy as well..............Lynton Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 9, 2009 Moderators Posted June 9, 2009 Lurch, Originally the zed Tom Cantwell races belonged to Neil Cartledge and from memory he built it over a period of many years. That zed can't be mistaken for any other zed...I've never seen one even close! (Dry sumped Motec EFI L28 with a weight of around 780 Kg's!!) Gordon Dobie moved to a factory in Elna St in Moorabbin after Beach Rd and I think has retired. Workshop is still there but neighbours say he's only seen randomly. Got some more pics of it..just have to play with each one in Photoshop because each scanned image is around 11.5Mb. He kindly lent me his photo album to scan and post them on this site.. Oh, and those mirrors did come on it from the factory! I asked him about that! Quote
. Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Here is a picture from the East Africa rally when the zeds were winning. I got this clip from Lofty Drews who was the navigator in the winning car in 1973. Quote
. Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Here is another. Particularly like the light weight headlight cone and have a look at the right blinker attached to the bumper. Quote
