. Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 You will have to check with the Nissan dealership. Last one I bought was almost 10 years ago for about $28. Last I've heard they are NLA but I hope I'm wrong. If you do find one, you have to treat it like you are carrying a wedding cake; one drop on a hrd floor and it's all over.. No no, If it were wedding cake you should drop it and run for the hills! Quote
zrevival Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Can new one's of these be purchased? The modules still seem to be freely available via ebay (that's ebay.com - not ebay.com.au) Just type 'e12-80' Quote

They are expensive though from Australian dealers so use eBay . I have another distributor which is a Mitsubishi Type (that was fitted to some 280zx's) its not the optical type, but another type which is apparently very good. The design certainly appears to be superior to that of the E12. The E12 dizzy has a ball bearing cage which breaks and causes the advance to stop working. I posted some pics a while ago of the other type I will try and find it. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 19, 2009 Administrators Posted December 19, 2009 So I found the thread where I posted it. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,935.0.html Nobody has been able to tell me what model it comes from. I'm pretty certain it was a Turbo 280zx maybe an early 1 or the later series 280zx. It definitely has the Mitsubishi logo which I suppose isn't that unusual. I guess it has a serial number so if anyone has a part reference guide they might be able to help. I don't believe modules are interchangeable between the 2 types of dizzy. Sorry to sort of take the thread off topic. Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 New wheels came today with free cat! Quote
Zeddophile Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 New wheels came today with free cat! Mmmmm, dim sims..... Nice wheels, too! Quote
C.A.R. Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Good stuff Steve! Are they the 7.5" ones? Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 Yeah Lurch they are, I'm looking at trying 215 45 on them after new years when the tyre shops reopen Quote
PZG302 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Steve, 215/45/17 will work quite nice on those wheels and the Z. One thing to watch out for is to "overtyre" the car. Being relatively light weight you don't really need the extra width that can be fitted, say a 235 or 245, like you would with an old Ford or Val. With the 215 you don't have a lot of bag in the sidewall that you would get with a wider tyre and that will help the handling as the tyre won't wobble about with the sidewall flexing, even with a reasonably low profile you are going with. It's always intersting to get onto the tyre manufactures' web sites and have a look at the motorsport tyres and what the suggested tyre widths are for the different rim widths and sizes. It can be suprising as to how narrow a tyre is recommended fitment when compared to road tyres. And also, that wasn't a cat it was a moving wheel chock!!! Quote
. Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Steve, I had some trouble getting 215, 65 14s for the 280zx I eventually went with Option 1 at Eagle Farm. Their prices were unbeatable. Well worth checking out. Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 Hey guys just spoke to Robbie from Wheel and Tyre Solutions at Brendale (recommended to me by PZG302/Matt). He recommended that I go with Neuton NT5000 tyres in 215/45/17 as he has them on his own car and finds them brilliant. He's given me a price of $145 per corner which is way cheaper than I expected. Quote
Scando Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Nice Steve, the car will look great with them on it. I haven't heard of Neuton tyres before. They might be a bit of a gamble but at that price they're worth a try for sure! Quote

If that's what the owner of the tyre shop runs, and he would have a much better choice than us , then that's what I'd be running. Robbie hasn't been off the mark with any of the tyres I have bought off him, or his advice in terms of race tyres and what it costs him to buy off the state distributors and so on.... He and Tim also do a bloody good wheel alignment as well. Quote
. Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I got my 215s for $90 had a choice of Federal or Khumo Quote
. Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I think you should have gone for a set of these. Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 Got the car back today mix of good and bad news. The air conditioning is working well. The car is running very roughly. I'm pretty certain that it's related to the old points dizzy, if you've ready my other stuff you'll remember that the module was broken on my replacement electronic unit. I've just got a replacement for it so I'll be having a go at fitting it on Monday (after I get back from woodford). I recently purchased a rebuild kit for my carburettors, I thought I'd post a couple pictures of what was included in the kit and how it went together. This is the kit that Black Dragon sell in the US. Here is the contents of the kit as it came: I took off the old hose which was quite thick. It is recommended by the guys at Ztherapy that you should use thin hose as it stops the jet from sticking when you pull the choke on. In the kit the valve on the float bowl is replaced. The float bowl gasket is also included in the kit. And finally, I made sure the jets and needles were aligned well enough such that the pistons fell at the same speed: Pretty good camerawork for my teeth Quote
garvice Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Got the new tires yet? Few hard corners to see the difference between cheap and decent tires? Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 Nah only got car back today. It's booked in to get the tyres on the 4th, which is the first day they reopen. Here's hoping I can get it back on the road by then. I won't be able to do many hard corners until I get the ignition working though Quote
PZG302 Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Steve, I have a points dizzy you can borrow to get your carrunning until you get the electronic one working if you need it. Give me a message and we can sort a time out to drop it over if you want it. Matt Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Hey Matt, Thanks for the offer. My car is currently driveable with its orignal points dizzy. I'm going to be having a bit of a read up on the process tomorrow so I'll post up a few Q's then. Cheers, Steve Quote
PZG302 Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 No worries Steve. If you need something to look at and take some pictures, my Z runs the 280 electronic dizzy with the module off the distributor body and has the wiring mod to run the standard tacho with no issues at all. I also have the wiring diagram to sort it all out either in the office or the garage. If you need it I can try to find the wiring diagram for the swap for you, it was pretty easy and the original tacho workes fine, just the standard Z innacuracy up around 7000rpm Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 That would be brilliant! Is the wiring diagram the same between the 240 and 260z? What suburb are you in again? Quote
chris240 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Steve , you really dont need the wiring diagram , there is a sticky under the forums with heaps of close-up pics for the elec dizzy swap.. Quote
PZG302 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Steve, will PM you with contact details. More than welcome to wander over for a look see. Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 I have managed to successfully install the electric dizzy with the replacment module as per the wiring diagrams on the Atlantic Z car website. The car started immediately once everything was installed and ran very well - as you would expect. I was able to drive it to Shaun's (without tuning it or adjusting timing) to collect my carby tuning gear. I still haven't adjusted the timing but I remember doing it 3 months ago to stock settings. It's very easy to drive around so I may just wait until I bump into someone with a timing light. The next step is to replace the busted tacho with the one I bought from Dimitri. Quote
