PZG302 Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Steve, I'll be home late Saturday arvo, from about 4, and pretty much all day sunday if you want to set the timing over the weekend. Should be home tomorrow, and not too hung over if you're in any condition to drive also Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 Hey thanks Matt, Sat arvo would suit me really well. I'll give you a bell before I come over. Also thanks for your advice on the phone before I started, it gave me a lot more confidence having discussed the process with someone was able to explain it so easily. I plan on doing verrry little tomorrow Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 New wheels look AWESOME. I wish I wasn't at work away from my Z all I want to do is drive it atm. I'll see if I can't con Shaun into taking a couple pics for me Quote

I'll see if I can't con Shaun into taking a couple pics for me jeez I know shaun is cool but why do you want his pics......let just hope he keeps his clothes on for it Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Well here are the wheel pictures I took today while I had the camera out. The first couple are not really a great idea of what they look like unfortunately, but I think they still look badass. The iphone night shot isn't far off. Here are the old wheels: And here is one of the good reasons I had to get rid of them! Here is the old dizzy setup with ballast resistor and everything in place: Here is the only wire that I had to fabricate to connect the 280zx dizzy: Here is a picture of that wire connecting to the corresponding terminal on the 280zx dizzy module: Quote
Z Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Hey Steve, Wheels (and ride height) just make the car, they look real good! That rubber looks pretty thin too - what profile is that? Quote
. Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Those wheels are nice. Just be aware that spacers are illegal in QLD. Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Hey Z, the tyres are Neuton NT5000 205x45s. $155 a corner from Robbie at Tyre and Wheel Solutions Brendale. Hey Greg yeah I know they're illegal, that's one of the reasons I have been keen to get these new wheels. I've got to figure out what car my old wheels orginally came on so I can work out where to advertise them :-\ Quote
modular9 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Seriously. How long is your aerial? (Iphone night shot). Nice wheels/tyres. Are you on lowered suspension ? Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 Hey Modular, I certainly am. Koni Red and King Springs. Here is the thread with all the details: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2934.0.html Quote
garvice Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Tires/Wheels are looking good Steve. That really is a big aerial mate, reminds me of the radio controlled cars. So when are you getting rid of the film strip? I reckon it would even look better even if you just filled the film strip in with black (in between saving to get it sprayed red). Quote
Scando Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I've got to figure out what car my old wheels orginally came on so I can work out where to advertise them :-\ Pretty sure they're factory option mags off an early Celica. New wheels look awesome by the way Quote
Aaron Neubauer Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Those rims look hot on that car, reminds of another car I know..... How do the tyres feel? Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Tyres feel great. Theyre very sticky! Massive improvement over the crap I used to get from Bridgestone anyway. Sorry I can't give a better review than that. Quote
. Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Hey Steve, be careful, don't bag Bridgestone too much. Don't forget when tyres get to 4 or 5 years old it really does impact their grip. The lack of grip you were experiencing is likely to be the age of the tyres not necessarily the brand. Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Haha yeah - both sets of tyres I just took off the car are 18 months and 6 months old respectively, I had them put on the car myself since the old ones were really bad EDIT To clarify: The tyres I just took off the car from bridgestone, and that I am saying were nowhere near as good as my current ones, were relatively new. The lack of grip you were experiencing is likely to be the age of the tyres not necessarily the brand. Also remember there are Bridgestones and then there are Brisgestones.....The Australian built tyres, whilst doing the job have a reputation for being not as good in terms of quality when compared to the Japanese built equivalent. Having said that, if the tyres were 4 to 5 years old, then it wouldn't matter what you had the rubber would be close to shot and only some goop would get them to have any grip. Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 I'm getting a quote for the removal of the side stripe. No more 280z and fireman ladder! Quote
. Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I will do it for the price of a can of red spray paint Quote
garvice Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Come on steve, when are we going to see you do something on this car? Greg does have the gear and is obviously willing to help. Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 Yeah one day... Final year of uni means thesis, working one day a week at Xstrata and also tutoring. If I even thought about starting a major project on the car I can see it coming off the road for a while and taking a long time. I would really like to get my hands dirty on the car, but I also really want to have a car to drive. Quote was $1900 which included sanding back both sides of the car on the front and rear quarters as well as the doors. Respraying these areas in red and some basic rust repairs. If any sections require welding new metal in that cost is expected to increase. Also it included taking the door trims back to stainless (currently painted black). Quote
zzzzed Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 dam thats expencive if you where in south australia we would do that for you in our shop for around $800 using top quality paint and equipment Quote
. Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Yeah, I agree. $1900 just for the sills?? doesn't sound right. Are you sure you didn't ask them to include some more work? I had the whole front half of my 280zx done for $500..........until the roo decided to customise it for me 3 months later. Quote
stevo_gj Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 So while I'm getting the doors painted I've decided to look in to replacing the aftermarket door mirrors the PO installed. I quite like the bullet mirrors, but I am not sure how many options I have, I'll post a few photos of mirrors I've seen. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to source a nice period styled set of 260z door mirrors? Would prefer somewhere in Australia so I can get them installed by the body shop. Edit:Those bullet mirrors I've posted are $50 each from these guys in the US: http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240z.html Quote
garvice Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I've got the last set you posted from msa, but i got the black ones and painted them white. Also have a pair of my old ones which are the same but in die cast not plastic if you want to see how they will look on your car (passenger side one is broken which is why I replaced). You could rattle can spray them red or black etc to see how they look before you buy them. Either way you go, they are cheap from msa and get here quick. Brad Quote
