nuclear_z Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Well, I jumped in and bought the car I love it, it drives really well... Its running very rich atm, but I will pop her onto the dyno before chrissie and get that sorted. Currently the car has: Engine: *L24 Block with L28 crank and rods (apparently) *N42 head and manifold *To3 turbo *alloy radiator *90mm thick custom cooler *oil cooler Gearbox and driveline *r32 71C gearbox *heavy duty clutch of unkown quality/brand *r100 diff Brakes: *Patrol master cylinder *RB25 calipers up front on BMW 735 slotted and cross drilled disks *standard drums at back *thumbs down* Wheels and suspension: *17" SParco forged rims with decent tread average tyres *KONI adjustable shocks and variable height coilovers *adjustable sway bars *adjustable camber arms (front only) Body: Body is in great nick for the age. THe re-spray has also been done inside on the floors and pillars... All rust cutout. There is one tiny bubble in the drivers sill, but the rest is really good with no sink-backs... The job was done 5 years ago so major issues should have shown up by now.... Interior: *Autotechnica bucket seats with ADR number - Good looking but not that comfy... I got the original seats as well *MONZA 3 point harnesses with ADR number - again OK but not that good for a daily driver. *Re-covered dash *new carpets - tunnel not done Major issues: I need to engineer the engine. I have spoken to an engineer and he has basically said, make it quieter (has a stoopidly loud exhaust - i'd arrest me) and plumb the BOV back (i would anyway)... It does not have a heater core - planning on fitting an aftermarket aircon system... It does not have a radio - have one at home just need to fit I would like to re-cover the centre console and sound deaden the interior... I will keep people appraised as I progress with the build and truly look forward to coming out and driving around with everyone. Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Cheers A couple of issues to fix, but thats half the fun Tell me, do these vehicles attract a lot of cop attention? Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted December 10, 2008 Administrators Posted December 10, 2008 Nice car, welcome to our humble community. Did you get her for a good price? Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 yeah i think so. The body is immaculate -minus one tiny rust bubble in drivers sill... Painted inside and out. The seats look good, but are uncomfortable so will revert to standard seats... It drives really well... I already fitted a silencer to the exhaust and now its a lot more inconspicuous The looks i have gotten, people coming over to find out what it is, absolutely amazing! Quote
chris240 Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Great zed , looks sweet- congrats. Is this zed still on carpoint $13,500 ?? red seats etc... Quote
Toecutter Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Yer nice car. Congrats on the buy. Pitty it did'nt make it's way to melbourne. We can always use a few more Z's down here! Sulio Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 yeah i spose it still would be on car point.... Yeah it is the one with the red seats... believe it or not the seats and belts have ADR numbers Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 14, 2008 Author Posted December 14, 2008 A few issues noted over the weekend... *The car is terrifying in the wet! - I am going to soften the rear sway bar, maybe raise it and soften the springs a bit to try and get more weight transfer occuring... Hopefully this will assist in turning not sliding around corners. *The fuel system is quite interesting... - I pulled the cover off the spare wheel well (been metal enclosed and fuel system is in there) to discover the biggest birdsnest of wires and fuel hose! The relay had been zip-tied to the fuel lines, speaker wire was used as the earths and nothing was soldered, it was all using those screw in block connectors! FIXED - 20 minutes with some solder, shrink-wrap and some bolts, and I have mounted the relay, redone all the wiring and now funnily enough the fuel pumps seem louder as I think they're getting propoer power *Will post piccies tonight Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 14, 2008 Author Posted December 14, 2008 Another issue I noted over the nasty wet last week was the rear lid leaked a bit so today I pulled the rear seal off, cleaned all the old qwikgrip off, cleaned the rubber and put it back on... And here is some shots of the relatively nasty interior... I am going to pull the centre console out this week and start the re-build of it... I am thinking that I will take the ash tray out and put a couple of drink holders in there... thoughts? As you can see the centre of the main dash is pretty fugly... Sourcing new gear now... nuclear_z Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 Last night was GREAT I removed that God ugly turbo timer you can see in the photo above under the steering column... THe best part was that is was only taped onto the ignition wires, not even soldered! One less defect for the car I got the central locking working With the alarm being installed this Sat, I should have remote central locking like a modern car I removed the fuel pump kill switch as it was twin-binded speaker wire running from the engine bay right around the car (abour 3.5m long) and have hooked it up using proper wire onto a switch in the dash that wasn't being used... I think I will take it to an Auto-Elecy at some point and have him tidy up some of the relays and extra wiring for the computer as I dont want to touch it... Its all coming along well... Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 Well, I now have remote central locking!!! The car has a proper alarm installed now and its fully insured up because of it I bought my new sound system, well parts, for the car as well... Pioneer head unit with Ipod and Bluetooth..., Soundstream splits and 4 channel amp cranking out some serious power.... Now just have to et it into the car... Will be getting the car up on stands today or tomorrow and we'll see what sort of condition the rest of the car is in. Have bought a R34 GTR blow off vlave for the car as well... Will post pics asap.. Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 Well some photos of the new sound system, the crazy under bonnet sight and the new speaker boxes that will be hopefully look great in the car. So here is the kit to date: And the rough beginning of the speaker boxes: Can anyone with speakers mounted in the fornt of their car please post some photos so I can get an idea how to mount some in the front so that I get a well staged sound??? I have had only decent speakers in the rear of the line, and I am getting annoyed with having sound coming from behind. Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 And some photos of the decidedly dodegy engine bay: With the new GTR BOV it should clean the bay up a bit... I want to have a good look at the intercooler piping over the Christmas break and TIDY THE DAMN WIRING!!! Quote
reverendzed Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Those speaker mounts will be awesome! this is what I did with my console http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,3054.0.html Rev Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 I hope so... Back from Holi'd up the coast now, so I should get som decent work into the car over the next 12 days I bought new engine, box and diff oils which I will change out tomorrow... Quote
nuclear_z Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 Well guys today was MASSIVE I started out the day by Modifying Michael's gear-stick so that he can fit his centre console back in.... Hope it works out well for him Then, I changed the oil, filter and spark plugs in the car. Runs so much smoother now... One thiing that had me baffled was the amount of condensation / water that came out the exhaust when I turned it on... I did a compression check before I bought the car and all cylinders were a nice 125psi each - so I hope it is just condensation as I hadnt turned the car on in a few days... Next - THE CENTRE CONSOLE My centre console was pretty badly cracked and not in nice shape. Enter the nasty fibreglass crap... Here some photos of the dash pre-glass... I then used my trusty dremmel to sand back all the edges of the cracks and drill the ends to stop from from opening up again once they are glassed up. I hate fiberglass. I am itchy all over from the shit. But, heres some of the photos of the topside glassing.... And then sanded back so that just the cracks have been filled up. I will glass the backside of the cracks tomorrow. Then the nasty business of sanding all the texture off, bogging the console so that it can be high-filled and then painted with the texture paint... I am thinking that I am going to remove the ashtray and build in a cup holder. Just so people dont think that i'm lazy, I then removed the shitty centre dash panel and have made a new one, that fits better and mounted my new head unit in. here it is... Tell me any thoughts or suggestions.... Cheers Quote
