NDSOC!

I'll put my hand up, I'm a member of NDSOC also. I'm amused by this whole thing and may be it's all taken out of context. It's all about sharing ideas and having fun with like minded people regardless of club.

I think the first comment here may be out of context. The NDSOC were an invited club with the roadsters display and were allocated an area for club members, there may have been a misunderstanding by gate staff about that. The ndsoc had been pushing the event and who ever was involved may have thought the wrong thing.

Regardless, I have been a member of many clubs in and outside of cars, and the one most important thing is that a happy club is a successful club.

I have noticed on this forum that more than the average number of negative comments appear which may suggest a bit of insecurity, get over it. Do what you need to do and have fun, we'll all go along with that and join in.

My own special interest would be performance zeds, and if you incorporate as a club, which is the obvious thing to do, there is a real basis for sharing ideas and information. There's a lot of ex zed racers/ralliers out there with tons of knowledge.

And if you ask, I'm John, known to some of you. I'm not really into display days and will be at my son's go Kart titles on the 6th.

Thanks for the invite Lurch I would be great to see so many Zeds in one place (I think the best was around 50 odd at an NDSOC Concours back in Zed hayday of 1988) so I will try and get along if I can get out of lunch with the outlaws, .

 

Craig:- I had no intention of airing any NDSOC "dirty laundry" on this site so  I think we just agree to disgree and leave the past to the past

 

BTW

there are a number of NDSOC members who are also members of forum (Dimitri, Daniel, Sulio, Dale, Simon, Matty, john   etc )..........I don't mind coping flack if I am the direct cause of the problem however it does get a little tiresome when I cannot influence NDSOC policy or change the past

 

As far as encouraging members here to join in with NDSOC events I believe I have extended invites on numerous occasions including the annual display, drive days, navigation rallies etc (often to be flamed for doing so)..........so again putting myself at risk of being flamed again   , this Sunday we have our annual Display at Southbank again so all are welcome .......the more Zeds the better

Alan please don't think that I am having a go at you personally, I'm simply saying that I would rather see the club as a stand alone, that doesn't mean that other clubs can't be involved in events simply that the interests would be best served in that fashion.

 

I have only ever had one experience with the NDSOC myself however that was outside of club related issues, in a past life (wedding photographer) I happened across your Southbank display and was kindly given permission to use a roadster for some shots. This was about 10 years ago but would assume that things have changed from what others have said, so my own personal experience with them wasn't bad but I have never had anything to do with them on a club/car level.

I'll only make one comment that is geared to Auszcar as apposed to NDSOC.

 

I'm tipping alot of the comments regarding the NDSOC come from Victorians so I'll gear this to our Vic members. This thread has somehow once again gone to getting Auszcar more official and this is what I'll comment on. Anybody that is interested in having Auszcar move to a more official club really should attend our meetings, you know you are more than welcome as we constantly try and generate as many Z cars to be present as possible. At present we are getting more organized on a financial level but that is just to continue having good casual events and that works fine atm. We currently do have a limited amount of time to spend on things like documentation and legalities when it comes to moving to this next step. The state moderators do an excellent job, ie Chris in Canberra, but if anybody wants to go down the path of "becoming an official club" please attend events and discuss your thoughts in person so they carry more weight. I feel there are too many throw away comments on, hey it's all so easy to do but forums are forums and it would really help to have your input and commitment on a practical level in person. These comments are not geared to any one person and I know Dave did'nt want to start the old arguement so rather than getting on the band wagon to put down the NDSOC come to the next Auszcar Dec 6 meet and say hello to Alan and some other NDSOC members that are there and work out in person how we can be more productive as a group so Auszcar can be bigger and better and so the Z community benefits as a whole. I know we have an excellent core group of guys that I see at BBQ's and cruises all the time. Lets grow that group...focus on the posatives and not get too side tracked.

Yes, I know I started it  and it has traversed a winding road of personal opinion, speculative thinking, intelligent observation and history.  As Sulio has said we can only do anything through the proactive participation of many and individuals who are willing to contribute both on line and in person.  My feeling is we've exhausted the topic and it's time to focus on other things......like Christmas, family and 6 December photo shoot BBQ!

Sorry to be chiming in a bit late here, being a member of both clubs, to me I have the best of both worlds. I've been a member of the NDSOC for around 12-13 years now and a member of this club for, going by the counter on the top left hand side of the page 6 days 22 hours and 4 minutes (works out almost a year). The amount of help, ideas and info I have gained from this forum is invaluable. Also with the NDSOC I have met alot of great people, being on the committee, been on awesome drives and other events. But there have been times I have felt like the stranger in the group. Its sad when someone has a bad experience with something or someone and then leaves a bad taste in their mouth. We all really need to sit down and discuss which direction you want this club to go in. I'd be more than happy if things remain as they are before the bubble bursts.

Advantages of a standalone "club"..

The club can join Cams under its own banner

The club can host its own events

The club can join AOMC under its own banner

The club can "hire" out track days under its own merit and members

The club may receive Govt funding if it hosts driver training and education days.
