If it werent for the front i'd definatly have a bid. i don't know now. i'll have to sleep on it. They told me the "RS Sport" stamped on the plate meant it was an original motorsport car, is this true?

Just had a flick through my old photos to confirm this one, cause I wasn't 100%, and no, not true.  My compliance plate was stamped 260z RS SPORT AUTO.

I thought with the chassis stamps 240's were HS30, 260's RS30 and 2+2's are GRS30. It has 260Z lights anyway. Nzeder knows a lot more codes. Gnose zeds I think were PS30 etc..If it was a rare shell, would anyone hack it up to make it a sports sedan?

I think acdc's question was more about the 'sport' part.  You are somewhat correct in what you say about hacking up a rare shell BUT think about this one - Group A racecars are now worth quite a bit of money....  Yet back in the days just following the end of Group A, no-one ever thought they'd be worth anything.  I know of two Alfa GTV6s (the two yellow GTV6s of Colin Bond and Alan Jones) which were both turned into sports sedans following the end of their Group A careers.  One the body remained basically intact, and it just had a bored out 3.4 litre alfa V6 dropped into it - and as such can be returned to Group A trim by reinstalling a 2.5 litre motor and the correct brakes.  The other (which was the one used for rallying as well as tarmac) has had extra rollcage pieces welded into the engine bay, had all the gaurds cut off the front and replaced with fibreglass ones, and various other things.  Just recently that car has been restored to 'as ran' spec (apart from the extra bracing in the engine bay), but the fact remains that it was seriously hacked up, and I'm led to believe a number of the other Group A cars had a similar fate.

However, the main point to be noted out of this discussion is the seller is full of it.  Okay, maybe the 'motorsport shell' thing is down to a lack of knowledge, but his reply to me indicates intention to mislead.  Replacement of the radiator support, holes cut in the inner gaurds, that to me is modification of the bodyshell, and when someone asks has it been modified in ANY WAY that sort of thing should be mentioned.  So if anyone is seriously thinking about buying this car, go and have a really good look for yourself to find out anything you want to know.

Minor correction here. Fairlady 240zg's were stamped HS30 but known internally in the factory as HS30-H the suffix -H never appeared on the chassis.

The Fairlady 432 was known as PS30 and the Fairlady 432R was again known internally as PS30-SB but the -SB didn't appear on the chassis.

I wrote a post about this a while ago:

http://datsun-240z-blog.viczcar.com/s30-zcar-chassis-prefix.html

If anyone wants to make corrections feel free to pass them on. I think Nzeder already has in the past.

If the car in question has HS30 on the chassis its a 240z if it has RS30 its a 260z. It has 260z tail lights and a 240z dashboard so big of a mongrel, but then again its a race car so it doesn't really matter.

Oops! Thanks Gavin, I couldn't remember all of them! With what was said before with that seller stating it being a "special race version" or something similar, I thought it was stamped on the chassis but it's on the compliance plate (which I think means nothing according to Nissan). Well, acdc, when you pickup the car, plz tell us what the chassis number is. To me it seems just a 260Z 2 seater.

Yes, ill have to agree. I think its just a 260z 2 seater. I cant remember what was on the compliance plates, i remember the "RS Sport" bit. I spoke with the bloke i bought it off earlier and he said the chassis number was 010007? I'll post the numbers in a post in the projects section on sunday night :)

Pfffft, Jamie sounds all confused or he's become full of BS.

My 260 2-seater is: RS30-001035, so the black shell isn't that early in RS30 chassis numbers...

Has any one come across this one before?

260z 2+2 convertible in Brissie, listed on Z Car Club Qld under Buy/Sell: http://www.zcarclubq.org.au/

Nice, but then I liked the 280zx convertible in WA too  :-[

Funny this car used to be in Victoria and I used to see it driving around Clayton / Moorabbin areas. It looks different alright. I couldn't chop the top off any Z, 2 seater or 2+2 but if I had to choose I'd probably do it to a 2+2 because you could fit 4 people in there with the roof down and go cruising along the beach.

If I recall the owner was asking $10k - $12k when it was sold in Victoria.

Someone is claiming to have a 240z 432 for sale - now I have no way of knowing if this is genuine, or a 240z chassis fitted with a hakosuka motor, but even if the latter it would be tempting.

Big V8

Asking 20K +

Not sure you can register it with a V8 that large?

Gonna need to present her a little better for that money I think though.

How hard would it be to run a cloth over the car though. its prob worth the asking price but common a little clean would help.... Especially seen as its unfinished, wouldnt you want it to look its best ::)
