240Z_au Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 OK, GOOD news..I've made a commitment to a powder coating equipment and other parts cleaning, coating and necessary "man cave" must haves' for rejuvenating original parts............. BAD news...I cant get my shell into deeping till February 2016. (yes, decided to deep, just no way to seal and remove any traces of internal,in-between joints, panels etc rust not accessible or visible from the outside. Blasting is OK, but deeping I'm now convinced is much better. So, focus on parts, bits and pieces, new carbies, detail, detail, detail and when the engine, gearbox, diff etc are all ready, so will hopefully be my shell. Will update next as I rejuvenate bits and pieces.. Best dash restorer suggestions? Quote

Interesting original detail I've never seen on other cars. Also saw something written in chalk under the glove box insert..Any Japanese interpreters out there? The pros and cons of this stripping process were then discussed in replies #32 to #40. Looking forward to seeing the after "Dipping" photos and really hope that they are not to scary. I think it will be just fine - this car was in excellent condition when Andrew bought it. After Andrew posted 15 detailed photos of the body shell in reply #48 - Katokid described this car as "one of the best condition original cars I've seen" (reply #49). I am looking forward to seeing some photos of the results too - and comparing them to the photos in reply #48. Quote
240Z_au Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 Thanks GongZ !.. Well sorted The car was very clean as you all saw, but the paint was very tired. I'm not one for "patina" and wanted the best shell I could get. The owner of the deeping place said that they never done a 240Z before. They do plenty of cars and bikes etc and its the only way I know, you can get to all rails and cavities and neutralise any rust there may be lurking (and there would be). I have a strategy for the rust proofing afterwards and will discuss this once the car is on rotisserie. I hope I don't see this when the car emerges: :-) (old VW combi which was just about to go to neutralising bath.Its essentially a large sieve now. Quote

240Z_au Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Yep, the last multi-window combi (recently) sold at Shannons for about $180K off memory. Anyway, Went in today, to check up on status of the body and then the engine progress with MIA. Body had stage 1 deep, getting water blasted today and going back in tomorrow for the weekend, Initial view is daunting, but I know it will look much better in a weeks time. Quote
