240Z_au
Hello Again. May as well share this next project with those who would at least listen and appreciate. So my Red 240 is almost done. Well, its a constant WIP as we all know, always something to improve. The red car is satisfying my inner child for that car I always wanted, but never could afford to build back when I was 18. Its not perfect, but its great for me and I love what it does when pushed. Now in my 40's, I also got to appreciate the finer details of this original cars. The wooden wheel, the supple ride, the smooth hum of the L24 and so on. So, having looked for the new project and wanting a complete car with a solid chassis and as close to the original as I can afford, I purchased this yellow one pretty much sight unseen. I wanted to buy another Green car as well (one that recently got away, but for reasons still unknown (I offered what was being asked and was ready to pick the car up with no questions asked) it wasn't meant to be. After driving the yellow car as a daily for the last month or so, I decided to do what I planned and get this thing restored to a much better shape. The car has a nice history and was kept surprisingly original. Matching numbers, clock, AM radio, all working too even got a trophy from the 90's as the car won Sydney Z Club concourse! (must have been in a much better shape back then So, here she is as of last week. Yesterday and today I had a lot of "stuff" pulled out. The engine is going to James at MIA (thanks for the tip Gav.) and Gearbox to Lurch just to support Victorian economy a bit from here (well, as soon as he tells me where to send it) I'll have the rack and diff etc done too and the car will be stripped this week and planning to deep in in a week or two. Then off to panel shop and the time consuming part of finer DETAIL and placing it all together. Well, wish me luck. I'll be hitting you all up for some advice shortly oldmates260z, gav240z and George

I can very much relate to the above, that is the motivation behind the car I am doing. Really looking forward to watching the yellow car progress. Once my car is registered I will come for a drive and and have a propper look at. Cheers PB
GongZ
Very nice car and that yellow is a personal favourite of mine. Can you tell us what its compliance date is please? ... Darling Harbour Concours somewhere too. I would be interested in the name of the owner back then if you happen to know who it was. Awesome!! Looks very tidy. I am fairly sure that this is actually "Protecta Strip" which was sold in parts shops and most popular in the 1980's. The owner was till very recently in possession. Kept a very detailed diary of all of the work, I have to dig the name out, but the trophy is sitting on my toolbox I'll dig his name out soon. Administrators gav240z Posted September 2, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 2, 2015 Nice car, ACT also so must be relatively rust free? I think there are a few of us who are still 18 at heart. God knows I desperately wanted to restore my first 240z at 18 but didn't have the funds to do it. Now I've got funds, but no time. Like everyone told me it would be.
240Z_au
This Clarion Tape player came with the car, there is a bracket under the dash and I had it checked out today and it works! (as do my 1980 tapes! LOL) So, anyone know whether it came as a standard equipment option in the early 70's?..I'm not that old, thought tapes have only started late 70's? so nothing for 240Z's??..Curious. I thought it was a chrome trim? Or is that a chrome trim? Hard to tell from the pic

Administrators gav240z Posted September 2, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 2, 2015 I don't know where some of you blokes are finding these gems, but well done. I guess it's like I say don't wait for them to be advertised on the "internets" go out and find them. Track them down, call around and ask people in the know. That's how you find the best cars in my opinion. 240Z_au
sydney mike
Congrats, she looks gorgeous in that yellow. Looking forward to seeing the red or yellow one in the flesh sometime. I think I know where the green one is headed. I wanted to buy another Green car as well (one that recently got away, but for reasons still unknown (I offered what was being asked and was ready to pick the car up with no questions asked) it wasn't meant to be. GongZ
Hi again Andrew, I just found a copy of the Sydney Z Car Club's NewZletter of July 1991 - the 'Special Concours Issue'. The owner of your car at the time was Bruce Ellis. I have attached scans of pages 4 and 5 of the NewZletter. Joe Grupe won 1st place in '240Z Modified' ahead of his son Herman Grupe. Herman also won the "Best of Show' award. Joe was the founder and then president of the club. Joe and his son ran a car repair workshop in Belmore NSW called Mastercraft Automotive, specialising in Z cars. Unfortunately both Joe and Herman have since passed away. On page 5 you will see photos of some of the cars at the Darling Harbour Concours. Your car is the one at the bottom of the left side of the page and also the second from the bottom of the right side. My car (ZZ-1973) is above yours on the left side of the page. Classicman
Yes, that is the car that I bought earlier this year from Bruce and Andrew bought it from me. Andrew, if you look through all the papers I gave you, you will find the Club magazine that GongZ has just posted. 240Z_au
GongZ
Just a small detail to add - the trophies say "Combined Z Clubs of NSW..." This referred to the combination of the Hunter Valley Z Car Club (established in 1986) and the Z Car Club of Sydney (established in late 1989). The two clubs amalgamated in 1991 - presumably after the Concours was held. (some of this information is from - http://www.zcarclub.com.au/)
sydney mike
It's another green one Gav, heading under it's own steam down to Mexico from Sydney soon. Not an early girl but a matching #'s 240 nonetheless. I'll let the new owner tell us about it himself. Are you talking about HS30 00675 ? Nice quick flip for the ACT owner (David) who spent few $ on some basics, but really the car was just not good enough for me from the 1st sight so its going to be the way it needs to be, but you cannot just buy. I don't feel "patina" LOL, I need everything Fresh, especially the paint Sorry David, I liked the car, but I want to like it more Got the books, all good! GongZ
Hi again Andrew, You may not have seen on the other threads/topics here that the 'green car' is now for sale in North Sydney, with an asking price of $72,995. I am sure that if you offer the asking price this time, you will have a good chance of getting it. http://classicthrottleshop.com.au/car4.html

Looking closely around the badges, the paint looks very average. It would pain me knowing I would need it perfect. . Thanks for sharing!..I'm sitting on a gold mine?
