Good to hear your back on track Fu,

I learnt a long time ago that if you want something done right and when you want it you need to do it yourself. Thats why I do all my own work on my cars.

However I know that Lurch and Dimitri a good reliable guys so you cannot go wrong with them :)

Hopfully we will both have our cars on the road soon

Ash

Good referal Lurch, Dimitri is a wiz with Z's from electrics to mechanics and he always goes that extra mile to help a fellow zedder out. He helped me out on numerous occasions well into the night with niggles on my motor.

Cheers,

Sulio

I just realised Dimitri's place was like a few blocks away from Ash's place. I could have sworn the roads looked familiar. hahaha. Sorry i'm not a east sider  ::)

Ash would you happen to have a spare booster? Either I'm in need for another booster or the tosser didn't do the 280zx MC modification, when he wacked it in. I'm hoping its the later.

Check to see if the master has "15/16" stamped on the side of it.

BTW glad to see it's gone to the right person this time ;)

Just had a peek for you, it is a 15/16 MC still with the 240Z booster. If the booster was working fine, it should be ok. I'm running the same thing in my zed. You do have a serious fluid leak from the rear left Fu, I'll look at that when I'm up to that. First thing is all the electrics!

Just a small update while we have some spare time due to the horses racing... Sorted the stuff in your zed Fu looking for what we need; and looking at the dog's breakfast of a wiring job that has to be rectified! Doesn't look too bad, just need to spread it out and check and remove all unnecessary wiring . Next pic should have the dashboard all together and ready to test in the car.

Legend.

So glad its in your hands now.

If I'm missing anything let me know, I've still got box loads of stuff here which I need to sort out here as well. Don't work too hard

Cheers,

Hey Fu,

Good to see an update, i was wondering what happened this car. Has looked so promising from day one, and i can only imagine how much you have invested in this thing, time and money.

But i know one thing for sure, and that is that driving an S30 is the best.

Youve got a beaut there, she just needs to be finished off, and beleive me you will have a grin ear to ear everytime you hit the ignition when shes ready ;)

Keep it up! Cant wait to see it on the road!

Just another little update; finished assembly of the dashboard, ready to sit in the zed and test. Usually nothing goes wrong (crosses fingers) and I can bolt it in. Heater controls next and then center console. Also have to check all the gauges are aligned.

Sad news today.

After 1.5 years waiting for my watanabes my order has been refunded today. At the time the exchange rate was hovering around 105yen per Australian dollar. The company who i had gone with was offering it for $1700 a set. Otherwise i would have bought it off Eiji from DatsunSpirit for about $2200.

Today i put through the order with Eiji and was charged $2790. (2 sets, 1 for me and 1 for mango) :'(

Ahh well its so worth it for the fairlady. ETA 2-4 weeks delivery.

I'll keep it short. Something arrived today  8). 1 of 2 sets. Direct from Japan.

Eiji from Datsunspirit is currently in Japan so if you are wishing to get a set. Best to email him soon.

Yes the pics have a hidden joke message.

As a request by Dimitri, I'll have scale shots of the rims soon. I'll use 2 sets of scales, 1 old analogue and 1 digital. Just to try and get the true weight.

Posted

What size are they Fu?

(Oh & yes I get the joke - but they're not THAT good :P )

glad you got the joke and they're THAT good.

the sizes are

16x8.5 -6 (front)

16x9.5 -17 (rear)

As per Sulio's advise I'll be getting 225/50/16 for the fronts and 245/45/16 for the rears.

I doubt that Fu paid $1400 a set, more like $2790 each set!  I only presume this as I was talking to Eiji about a set a few weeks back.

yep, at $1400 a set everyone would have them! one day when i'm feeling rich i'd love a set in the solid gunmetal colour...

...hope you dont run out of tissues

The initial quote pre-GFC, when the AUD was buying 115yen per dollar, was $1400. It then went up to $1700 when the GFC slightly started to hit. Unfortunately the company that promised me the watanabes failed to pull their end. Ultimately giving me a refund for $1700.

Did i mention at the time it would have costed me about $2200 pre-GFC to purchase it from Eiji. Unfortunately, me being Asian (no offense to any other Asians out there), I couldn't help myself with a bargain. Ultimately costing me more. So yes the final price for 2 sets was $5487.98AUD for 2 sets landed at my door.

Eiji has been giving me updates quite frequently. The day he ordered them it took Watanabe 4 days to make and it was then posted. It was posted on the 18th of February via Japan Post International Airmail. I received 1 set yesterday, 22nd February, but was caught up at the post office due to being unavailable at home for the delivery. 1 set is arriving tomorrow, 24th February. It's quite fast to order if you know the correct channels.

Glad to hear things worked out right with Eiji and they are the best wheels you can get for your Z. No other wheel looks as good and well balanced as those on a S30 Z. I'm very tempted to treat myself to a set. But even in euro they are still damn expensive :).

Cheers Gav, it's all worth it for the fairlady Z. Australian dollar to the US is slightly better then when I made the transaction payment.

I processed it when the AUD dipped down to 0.88USD. It's now back up to 0.92USD.

Another pointer to push you towards the purchase, you live once but the zed lives a shorter life then you. So do it.

I swung by Dimitri's place to help him out with the Zed yesterday.

Task at hand was to attach the dash and to check if everything worked.

All thumbs up so far with the wiring loom. I no longer have the "common fuse" popping issue. All fuses have power running through them.

We decided to turn the old gal over since she hasn't been started in a while. Took a bit but she did come to life.

However it has produced a new problem. Looks like the sump gasket is rooted on one side. This also has the sump leaking a bit. Produced a bit of a puddle.

Will need to get this fixed after it's zed care(pun from the terminology "child care") centre at Dimitri's.

"Ohhhh Lurch" XD

On another note. We did end up weighing the rims. We had the same weight reading for both front and rear. About 8.2kg on Dimitri's scale. I will use my mechanical antique scale tonight to see what it produces.

Big shout out to Dimitri. Very big thanks for doing this. Forever in your debt.

Good stuff - pleasing to hear it's progressing!

When Dimitri has finished with it, we'll get it down here to tackle the sump gasket...

Just let me know ;)

Well, some more progress today, hazards worked like a charm, but when I went to test the indicators, I had the little arrows in the tacho wrong way round. Left was right and yeah..not good. Easy fix though and now its all sorted. All the lights work, just have to tackle the wipers which are dead, and blower motor which just blows fuses. Dash is all done and heater control panel.

Thanks for adding the photo Dimitri.

I had to blink a few times, I thought it was someone elses car. Could not recognise it. The interior has changed so much recently.
