mango's car looks hot !

The guy who rwc'd mine picked me up for a hatch that was 3 mm off ( as in the panel fitment needed tweaking )... you really should try to go back to the same dood again.

Posted

yea. mango wanted to get the rwc done there but the idea of a windshield being defected is... kinda well not as benefiting to the driver as say the hazards. We kinda think its pointless to change it... there is a few small tiny stone chips but everything is visible. No massive cracks. But RWC still wants it changed.

Mango wants to claim the windshield on insurance.

So yea... hazards RWC guy here we go rofl. He doesn't mind waiting 1 month to get everything done. I on the other hand am begging to take my Zed around.

Wow Fufu thats coming along real nice. Looks like we're gonna have another couple of nice Z's on the road down in Vic/Mexico. Maybe have them ready for the next overnight cruise to Appollo Bay later this year!!!!

Heya, just looking at Mango's car.........is that the white tone he was after or was that the original white colour code?

Ahh... that white tone... could have been a little brighter. The panel beater was mean to actually give us a palette to choose. But ultimately we just suggested white and it turned up like that. We could have gone the original white color but its hard to get the exact match. Unless you purchase it directly from Nissan for an extremely ridiculous price.

So yea it did turn out super good though but needs a bit of work still. Theres a few stone chips already on the dog leg areas.

it's not easy choosing a colour I gotta agree.

looks similar to this but you can't tell unless it's side by side. This is my friends one in honda Championship White.......the white for all type R's.

OH god i love that car.

I've seen the pictures on jdmstyletuning.com and its FANTASTIC!

Love the Clean engine bay and the shiny triple webers as well as the track photos.

The more i look at that car the more i crave to drive my Zed. Poor thing is still at the Hospital (Panel Beaters).

*cringes* I think i've got withdrawal symptoms.

Welcome to another update of fufu's 240Z build.

It's been a while again... but its been going through quite a bit of work. As most of it is bodywork perfecting it's kinda hard to post pics and updates up as it will be the same thing over and over. As a result i decided to do it all at once.

First off I'd like to show a pic of what I'd like the car to look like...

Yes, I'm keeping the original colour code of Nissan 903. Mango's car was painted in Nissan CLR915, however the... Honda championship white is definitely a more richer brighter white. There was a lot of debate about which blue was to be used... it was gonna be either R34 GTR Blue or the 903. But the original was chosen in the end.

So far the car has been prepped and primed in 4 layers of primer. 2 etch and 2 epoxy leaving the last layer of epoxy the working skin towards straightening.

The underside of the bonnet, doors and hatch have been painted as less attention will be focused on those parts.

*Update*

Hi guys,

A small update.

As most of the underside of the doors, bonnet and hatch have been painted it has slowly moved towards the main body now.

There is a black undercoat being sprayed prior to the colour paint as can be seen in the following photos.

Before anyone starts asking 'why haven't i taken the engine out and sprayed the engine bay?' it's actually going through a 2 phase process whereby the body will be done first and when i've thought of what engine combination i want, i'll get the engine bay done then.

I'm not too fussed about the engine bay colouring as it can be done later, even if the result is slightly different, its not too much of an appeal as the overall body. Also i wanted it to be RWC'd and driven/enjoyed a bit before going into phase 2.

crowd says "*cough cough* bull$hit"

fu confesses "actually low on funds"  :'(

OK, now too the photos. Enjoy!

To be honest I'm not sure when they'll finish it. It takes them a long time just to do one bit. Theres 2 apprentice and 1 main panel beater working on my car. For the apprentice its a grill session by the main panel beater. Ahhhh... memories of being the lacky... If we are good i may get it back within 2-3 weeks which means during exam period and holidays. Which is extremely good because i can get a lot of work done then.

Theres one big hole on the firewall i want them to fix before handing it over to me. Due to the hard to reach nature of it... i don't think it will be for a while. Once its handed over... i've giving it a few weeks for re-assembly and maybe a month for the RWC. Leaving a month for RWC is an estimate in comparison to the lengthy process Mango is going through on his car. But all my electrical works, so i don't think it'll be too bad.

It'll be the suspension, alignment and those bushings that will probably get me. All should be easy fixes. Oh i also forgot that it'll be going through manual conversion before... the RWC, so i can register it all as a manual.

Payday tomorrow so i should have more funds to get some more parts.

Nothing much happening lately.

But i did receive some more goodies.

Direct from "NIHON" land.

Here we have a F.E.T. intake manifold for the triple carbs and the heatshield.

That's a very nice manifold set. May I ask how much they charge inc the heat sheild?

Sulio

I got two prices, my friend bought them at the local carb store in japan in his area, it was the last one and its pretty rare to get your hands on the F.E.T. branded type. A lot of after market ones.

Total package for the intake manifold and heat shield and all bolts and gasket is about $450 including air mail. It would be hard to get the same package new, for that price.

Very nice, FET!? In the past I've heard it stands for Far Eastern Trading Co.? And they also have some affiliation with SK carbs???? Any reason for going with FET brand? What carbs are you planning on running?

There is a certain quality about them above the rest. Your welcome to come and inspect it. I feel like the F.E.T. intake manifolds are really well made. So instead of buying a no branded intake manifold i decided to spend a little more to get the F.E.T. intake. SK short for Sanyo looks very similar to the F.E.T. intake, I'm pretty sure they both share the same designs. They pretty much cost almost the same.

I'm planning to go with either 40mm or 45mm webers. This will be for a L28. My brother has influenced me to go the L28 route rather then to triple weber the L24. I will be keeping the L24 engine in storage. Matching numbers are such a waste to just throw out.

If its going to be a pretty stock L28, I'd go with 40mm carbies, as the 45s will be too big and may make it a bastard to start.  If you are going a big cam, some head work and raised comp, 45s are probably a better option.  And if you are starting off stock, but planning for some engine work later on, jetted down 45s possibly with smaller chokes installed are probably best, to avoid spending money twice  :D.

Hi guys a little update.

Finally getting somewhere. All panels have been re-attached and is now going through the final alignment and straightening.

I'm guessing I'll get it back by the end of next week.

Problem that caused a lot of the recent waiting was because... for some reason the Zed no long runs and they haven't been able to move it. If you have been following the project so far, you will know that the e-brake cable doesn't quite fit and it required a adapter to get it sorted. Well i installed the adapter today but due to many months of the car being in that awkward rear brake locked position, from that e-brake cable not fitting, the pistons are now not budging for some reason. I tried using a G-clamp but it doesn't seen to go back in.

I remember when i first installed the rear brake conversion it fitted fine and worked fine. Only problem back then was the fact that i installed the calipers the wrong way round so i believe the calipers do still work its just a matter of resetting the piston.

*EDIT* I just realised by researching that i need some twisting tool to twist the rear caliper pistons back in. I will look into it for next weeks brake repair session.

For now I've taken out the rear brake pads. So that they can push the car into the painting booth. But i will have to head back there next Saturday and take care of it.

Anyways here are some photos:

OH also, there is a random Zed that appeared at my Panel Beater, I'm assuming another member has decided to do a restoration at the same Panel Beater as me.

I've taken some photos and i hope you don't mind me posting them here.

From what it looks like, its a 240Z but with some weird mods. For one it has a 260Z antennae, drag tires, L28 engine, front spoiler molded into the front bumper (see attached pics), OH and weird fender indicators.
