uh OH!

The Trueno looks like its gonna be a problem.

It wouldn't start at all. After we changed the battery, fuel check, changed spark plugs. It started to come to life. However theres lots of soot coming out the rear exhaust and when revving from idle (600rpms) theres a intake popping sound. When doing about 4000rpms theres black smoke and slight oil splatter out the rear. On slow revving its fine - no popping. It's just when you want to flog it, it starts popping. Idle jumps all over the place at the moment from 500-700.

I have a feeling the thing needs a good tune, timing adjusted, fuel filter change. Else I'm looking at engine internals which isn't good. I don't like the sound of the intake popping. After a dozen or so intake pops theres probably 1 or 2 small exhaust pops.

The engine might be buggered.

If that model 4AGE runs with a map sensor, make sure the vacuum line is connected up and not split....

Can't remember from my mates car if they have an air flow meter as well (although his engines from an AE93 anyway), if they do, check that its plugged in.

Sounds like something critical to measuring air flow or engine load isn't connected...

I believe the injectors are clogged.

As i get soot coming out the rear exhaust as well as black liquid coming out. Initially thought this substance was oil but after having a look a few hours later, the liquid disappeared so it must mean its fuel. Thats a relief i guess. Have high hops its an injector problem.

Also thinking this could be due to running the car near empty for first try.

While I'm at it I'll get the fuel filter changed.

Symptoms does fit from what I've read so far.

Gonna get the mechanic to clean out the injectors and see what else is wrong.

Yep, got the EFI guy to come around and do an off-car injector check/clean.

1 of my injector is running super lean. Probably get double the rate from all the others. Which means at high revs i'm popping or the cylinder isn't working.

Anyways gonna get new injectors for that car soon after compliance. Still works just missing a cylinder randomly LOL  :D Still it's good news though. I have a new fuel filter in. Damn the fuel looks dirty. Put it this way it looks like dirt was mixed into it.  But it'll clear up over time.

The car idles nicely now but random pops or missfires, alot better than the last few days where it would bounce from 500-700 revs, now idle its about 900 standard - no bounce.

:D Hello everybody!

Just a quick update with photos.

Mango called me up the other day and wanted to check up on the Z's, so we went on down there and checked out how our Z's were doing. Anyhow heres some pics of the work done so far.

Basically sanding down.

normal_Image213.jpg

Pic of the door, the better one of the two. The other one has a lot of pin holes and a prior rust repair. This door has a few pinholes but nothing too major.

normal_Image212.jpg

Pic of the bonnet, Few pinholes in the front edges, thats about it.

Image207.jpg

Pic of the roof, probably the only nice bit of metal on the car. However i did warp it a bit with the 3M cleaning disc - They suck trust me, don't even bother getting/using them.

normal_Image201.jpg

While i'm waiting for the car i decided to do the little nitty gritty stuff to speed up the re-assembly later. So heres a pic of the new Glass housing and H4 bulbs installed into the headlamp assembly. Nice? hehehe. I hope they work well that is, yet to try.

Stay tuned for more updates. I would do a Mango section but i think it's best if he tells the story. His got a 260Z 2 Seater being done at the moment.

Coming along nicely.

I can vouch for the H4 upgrade, but I highly suggest you rewire it properly, my lowbeams have already gone and I was told yesterday by a friend the damage that can be done to the loom and everything attached as it tries to earth itself back through the loom if an extra relay isnt installed etc.  This is the next priority i have after finding that out.

Posted

I was thinking about a Pivot Raizin unit to help out with the grounding/electrical-flow and be a temporary solution until i can afford a re-wire with relay system. Running a little thin in the budget at the moment. Two cars is such a handful, especially when problems are sprouting everywhere.

Some good news today. Not much done on the Z so far, so if your after the Z project news, please come again. However if you like Trueno project news, please read on.

Trueno News:

Anyways the Trueno has been complianced. FOR SOME REASON I CLOCKED 100 KMS in 3 days of compliancing... weird... did they take it for a spin?. Not to mention i dropped from 2/3rds petrol to 1/4, so I'm thinking they did, as the mechanic was pretty keen on buying a Trueno as well.

So... we finally fixed the intake popping sound today. You guys won't even believe it... Spark leads 1 and 4 were switched. That totally fixed the popping, from the intake. Only problem now is a lot of white smoke, presuming overfilled oil, occasional tiny small misfires in the exhaust. I'm guessing it will clear up eventually.

We did drive from the compliancing place in Abbotsford to Maribyrnong on 2 cylinder not to mention a good waste of petrol.

Welps hopefully everything will clears up soon. Going for RWC on Monday and Rego on Tuesday maybe. Gotta get the last two tyres.

Z News:

As for the Z. I'm afraid everything is on pause at the moment. WHY? you ask? I'm actually quite furious about this. Well after a fellow member said not to burn bridges over the front spoiler, i decided to go back to AllZparts and get the front spoiler... well all i can say is after 3 months wait and nonstop "its coming in soon" "it's comming in 2 weeks". I'm still waiting... now the current excuse is "new shipping company" "the container was damaged, we're lodging an insurance claim" "hope to get it out by Friday". Well Friday went by and nothing yet. Seriously if he down right just told me from the beginning i would have just ordered it from TheZstore, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHERE HE IS GETTING IT FROM, but the difference is i would have received it in 3 weeks unlike this BS.

Until i get the bumpers i can't get the 260Z done which means my 240Z won't get done until after it. Very angry at allzparts at the moment. Guarantee theres gonna be more BS when i call them on Monday.

Posted

sorry to hear about allzparts...........I find the guy such a tool to deal with at times I leave him as a last resort. His a very moody bugga.

OK, some very minor news, like if you value your time please come back another time to this thread  :D HEHEHE

Well Trueno is being registered on Thursday. Apparently in Sunshine Vicroads only has 1 day for import registration. If it was any other car it would have been done sooner.

OK onto the Z. Nothing has changed.

We are still waiting on the kit. Geee... *yawns* Warren said he would send it last Friday so hopefully will get it on Tomorrow Monday.

That way Mango's car will be done and ultimately they will finally get mine done.

Honestly we've been avoiding our Panel Beater because of that front spoiler. LOL  :D Basically we are breaking promises which are broken by another person. But yea, I'd love to work on the car while its at the PBs but won't be doing so until i have the front spoiler. Basically the car should have been done early last month, thats how long I've been waiting on a "It's here let me get it out of the container" message.

We did go by last week to check on Mango's and it does look extremely good. But I'll leave it up to him as his doing a blog on it as well.

i used the same H4 conversion on my 260z.

looks great and works realy good. though i dont have s30 wiring but r32 so dont have any issues with lights dimming.

not sure what are legislations in your state but here having blue parker bulbs gives you a nice cannary. i know WA#^@#RS but what can you do. than again even with the normal bulbs it looks sweet.

i also removed the parker from the lower indicator assembly and replaced it with another indicator bulb. lot brighter and wider indicator lens now. helps as i dont have the side repeater. got convinently shaved off at the rebuild stage. ;D

anyway nice work so far and keep up with motivation you will need it.  ;)

Cheers rbz260.

I think I've got a early model 240z. My wiring never had the parker setup nor the 4 lower indicator housing but a 2 lower indicator housing.

So even though I've got that blue bulb its not hooked up. But hopefully I'll make some, so i can get them to work. Also want the parkers in the lower indicator assembly.

Yea, in Victoria we have the same legislation with the bulb color. But lets see if them Pigs get me even though they aren't hooked up  :D

I can personally see the end of the tunnel now. Prior to this, boy is it a hectic project. I know mine has been a short project and a lot of others have had theirs for years, so honestly I've only begun to experience what others have gone through and can't imagine what they have experienced in difficulty in the long run.

But yes, my goal is to see this to the end and hopefully put another Z on the street rather then in the scrapyard.  :D

Oh my why am i not surprised... still waiting on them spoilers.

"They'll be here Friday" "They'll be here next week" for every 2 cents he said that to me, I'd be rich by now.

AFTER many months waiting for this kit, It has finally arrived.

Though if i had chosen a different panel beater it would have costed me heaps in overnight fees. But I'm lucky.

Finally the project can continue.

Can i say, the way AllZpart do their business is very unprofessional and doesn't keep the customer in mind. Quite frankly i should have been told the truth from the start so i could have ordered it from MSA and received it but rather then this i was pushed around for a whole 2 months.

Due to the fact that my PB really needed this product i gave into Allzparts and decided to wait small durations of "a week" which turned to the same excuse every week and then resulted in all most 3 months.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE who is searching for parts for the Zed. Call around and if they have it... get it from them... however... if they say "i can get you one by next week" turn elsewhere. It's all BS so they can find the product however long it takes and then sell it to you for unreasonable prices. Sorry to quit the BS i suggest you find a place that actually has the part your looking for in stock.

I've learnt a great ordeal from this and i hope my suffering can lead you all to a better outcome.

As for front spoilers I'd recommend getting them from MSA in the US. I'm sure their delivery time wouldn't be more than 3 week to get to your door rather then another company that took almost 3 months.

3 weeks aint too bad. My zed is still at the tuning shop ( 5 km down the road ) after 2.5 weeks! They do good work but are dam slow. And yes i ring everyday.

Still : pics of the spoliers please.

OK just got back from Panel Beaters after delivering the front spoilers. WOW they actually started on mine and at a incredible pace. Whats been done so far...

- Engine bay rusted area's repatched most of them only need passenger fender hanger strip and firewall hole and that sections done

- Several body welds.

- They completed the roof and the windscreen holes, i honestly didn't even see this before but they did it.

- Passenger side floor

First off, I'm finally moving to image shack for posting images hopefully they work. *edit* it has now been moved to photobucket due to its crazy kickarse features.

Now to the images.

MMMM... plastic front spoilers... yum...

Good to see they finally arrived...

I went through Black Dragon to get my Urethane front bar not long ago.  They had good service and it arrived on time, but it didnt have cut outs for the indicators (my own fault for not checking).  I ended up just cutting out the sections for the lights to slot into.  Worked fine.

Prepped and ready to paint front spoiler.

image254lw2.jpg

Starting on the rear hatch. Going to get them to weld up those emblem holes. As i now have a rear spoiler.

image253mt3.jpg

Prepped and ready to paint door. All holes been welded and sanded down.

image252eu1.jpg

Prepped and ready to paint bonnet. Mmmm no holes. No Emblems. Gonna be a sleek look.

Stay tuned guys. It's a bit slow at the moment because they have other cars that they are doing. Just a reminder they are doing mine last and at a low priority level due to the severity and complexity.

They are also doing a Evo 3, one of their staffs car. A hilux ute, which looked like its been drifted into a pole. Yes they are literally cutting the cabin half way and welding another half cabin to it. As well as about 7 standard repair and paint cars. So its kinda hectic at the moment.

WOW has it been that long.

Not much has been done to my car within the last month.

Merely perfecting and straightening the body before the inevitable respray.

Can't really give a time line or a time frame at this point.

HOWEVER

I'd like to show some sneak shots of Mango's car. Still going through RWC, kinda have a problem with the hazard lights at the moment. The previous owner did a V8 conversion and at the same time hacked a lot of the cables so we have no idea where the hazards are going. It's just that once we turn them on our volt meter just hits 0. So i believe its shorting itself or grounding somewhere. Plans to fix that would be to wait for the head unit. So we can pull the dash apart and check all the cables behind there as well as wire up the new head unit.

On the RWC note, i had one RWC guy who said he would pass us if we had the front windscreen replaced due to a few stone chips. I had another RWC place who said they'd pass us if we repaired the hazard lights.
