Riceburner Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Early today my brothers shed caught fire. The result was EVERYTHING burned to the ground, he managed to save a tractor by driving it away with the tyres on fire! He lost three 1600's. A 68 1600, road car owned/daily driven for 20+yrs, it had a SSS dash rebuilt L20b with twin mikuni's only just fitted. A 1600 race car that was 50% complete and was rebuilt over 5yrs. A pristine restored 1600 shell in primer. Then there's all the spares (a heap) built up over 20yrs from three different states and more tools than you could imagine :'( The 'Noddy Mobile' with my car about two months ago. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 5, 2014 Administrators Posted May 5, 2014 I hope they were insured? Although I know the car parts won't be covered and the time effort etc.. That red 1600 looked mint. Quote
Riceburner Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Yeah was insured. Like you say all the blood, sweat, tears, and memories aren't. Also there's the task of trying to remember everything that was in there. Quote
bluerat Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Very sad to hear Gareth. When and If he want's to jump back on the horse, give me a call, I've got a '68 project here that needs a good home. Quote

KatoKid Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 One of my biggest fears....sorry to hear G man. Any ideas how it started? Quote
Riceburner Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 Looks to be some sort of fault with a power board on top of a timber cabinet, it wasn't running anything and the safety switches tripped but it still went up. Quote
Riceburner Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Good news, we have found a new 1600! After endless searching and an overnight trip to Sydney We heard through a friend of friend of a friend that there may be a car in a barn 5km's down the road. Long story short, it was a project started and stalled about 10yrs ago. It's been rubbed back to bare metal in most places of the body shell and has surface rust but only one small hole on the top of the right rear guard. Came with new door seals and 4ltrs of 70-74 Datsun orange? It took half a day to get it out, then find most of the parts and hang panels on. Let the fun begin! Quote
Cozza Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Great news Mate. Good luck with the project, looks pretty solid. Mick Quote
