260DET Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 Z is with the pro now to finish off, exhaust is going to be a twin 3" into a single 3.5 with a resonator and a straight through muffler. Made extractors too simply because it's very tight on the driver's side. I'm getting excited Quote
Gordo Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Go Richard. Moving along nicely. Nice to see a below 30,000 re-build thread Quote
dat2kman Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Yes, But Lightyear did his 1.50 in a new car I did 1.53 in a 45 year old car, with its original spec mechanicals,,,,, Relative to Stevensons Steam engine, which is circa 260det I win. NFI what though,,,,, Quote
d3c0y Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I am right in thinking there are some PF usernames in there right? Quote
260DET Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 Balls, balls and more balls You becoming a 620ZX fanboy Jason? Sorry, no passenger seat = no passenger rides Quote
dat2kman Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Nah, Stick with my 2.3 litre SR20DE on Quads,,,,,wwwaaaayyyyy lighter! Quote
260DET Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Weight should be pretty good but a full transmission to handle power is not light. With the VG30DET a few years ago it was about the same as Wilbur's RB30ET 260Z, lightened by about 50kg since then which does not include the lighter alloy V8. Quote
260DET Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 Pro has finished the exhaust, pic of the R extractor below which has to wriggle around the steering shaft, clear the starter motor and a few other things. Once you have to go custom with an exhaust the cost goes ^ big time, bang for buck it would be cheaper to go for a more basic system but this should look and sound cool, have to get those priorities right Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 2, 2014 Moderators Posted August 2, 2014 Looks like a forklift ran over a set of headers...haha... Looks like alot of work...nice though. Quote
tir33d Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 My right hand pipes are all individual, and it is still really really painfull to get them on, don't know how they are gonna get in to be truthful. No race merge collectors? Are you going to get them HPC coated? My extractors and pipes originally cost $2200 or $2400. Since spent another $500 at a shop to go backwards, then another $700 for bits for us to redesign the rear from the extractors. Have you got a bung in one of your pipes for your o2 sensor? Hard to get equal lengths in our situation, but he really did just look for the easy route. Still another step closer. Quote

260DET Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 The exhaust is completed and in the car so it must all fit, I don't think it would be possible to do a proper four into one equal length, on the R side anyway. As long as it sounds good, is not too loud and does not drag on the ground I'm happy. 400-450WHP will do me fine so that should not be a problem with that exhaust, have now decided to just get the engine running, lay it up for a few months, then I'll be able to get back to it later with a cam change and whatever else the engine needs to reach the power target plus a dyno tune of course. 260DET Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 Ha ha, like that would fit in my engine bay Peter Certainly an off the shelf set would have saved some money but no way in the world would those ones in the pic fit for mine. Quote
260DET Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 For some reason or other it seems that it's easier to fit extractors into a S30 than a S130, I suspect that the LS sits a bit differently in the respective engine bays. Quote
260DET Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 More progress, the engine is running Quote
be-zed Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 So it looks like it will be running and ready for the track by 23 November. Quote
