I mean you can't sell it, can't race it. You could only steal some of the parts, but then what? And what do people hope to do with it? Quote

dat2kman Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 The engine, of which quite a few were made by Repco, will be "re-numbered" to replace a not so healthy engine, the transaxle is common, eadily dispised of. The body will get used as a plug for a new mould, with a few minor bumps and scallops put into the plug. The chassis will get a few struts/bars altered/re-shaped, and turn up as a newly rebuilt CanAm type car. Or, It'll be used by some rich desert jockey, to show off to his yallah yallah mates, with a re-spray. But deally,,,,,,, the numpty's that nicked it, have dumped it and it will be found, like the trailer! My father in-law was one of the Metallrgists at Repco Engines, who had to put up with this young persistent fellow, who wanted certain things made in a certain way,, the young bloke,,, was Jack Brabham! C.A.R. Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 A RARE $320,000 race car stolen from a southeast Melbourne factory last month has been found dumped on the side of a road. Owner of the car Jay Bondini was left "absolutely devastated" when he found the locks on the gates to his Rowville factory had been cut and his fully restored 1970 Rennmax race car gone just before Christmas. But after a public appeal for help by police yesterday, a passer-by spotted the car this morning 15km away on Courtneys Rd, Belgrave South and alerted authorities. Police will reunite Mr Bondini with his car today. Excellent news to hear! Quote

Sir Jack was around 40 at the time! That particular engine was from Leo's 39, the prettiest racing car ever. Here is a photo of the Rennmax I took at Winton (circa 1976) and one in its original form being lapped by a 240Z at Bathurst. Quote

A well known Mk2 Escort was stolen a number of years ago here in NZ (the car was killed at the leadfoot festival last year - another story). Like the 240z that was posted on here - it was on a trailer and got taken. You would have thought that a Ford Escort would be easy to hide right - well via the internet forums, phone calls, the police dropping the right hints to the known gang connections the car become to hot to handle and the original thieves (believed to be a car theft gang dropped it like a hot potato) passed it on a young guy who wanted to join a gang (so the story goes). Short version is 2 weeks later the car was found with grey primer paint work that did not even cover the race number and other stickers under the primer and the young guy was nicked and the car returned to the rightful owner Bruce. So once something becomes too hot to hold on to or fence and with a lot of buzz in certain circles the wise thing is usually done - drop the hot property. Luck thing is they did not set fire to it or anything like that. Quote
