RBMunkie Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Anyone here wanna trade a registerable 260z shell (in OK nick) for an RB26DETT Long motor + Gearbox per chance? In sydney. If not - anyone have a 260 coupe shell (rolling preferably) under 4 K? Registerable.. Text on 0431045486. Thanks - Martin. Quote
PZG302 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Where's that popcorn GIF Lurch keeps handy for posts like these. Sorry Martin, but I think the chances of finding a decent 2 seater shell for under $4k are very slim indeed and you would be lucky to find a station wagon shell for that sort of dollars if you want something that can be put on the road with minimal work. dat2kman Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 4k? Nah, but 40k gets you a cracking race car that coan be historic regod for some tarmac fun Quote

Oddly enough, that was my first thought too, after my eyes returned after rolling into the massive vacuum, that is known as the back of my head! RBMunkie. Keep the RB package, buy a car and put it in it! Quote
RBMunkie Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Uh. I said Rolling Shell that is registerable. Since when did rolling shell mean complete car? You laugh at me because you think I am asking for a complete vehicle for bugger all money. When I am laughing at you for not being able to comprehend that shell that is registerable = shell with wheels an diff at most, and some panels. Not complete car. With a clear title. So I ask again. Anyone have a 240/260coupe rolling shell with a clear VIN, for under four grand? There is a complete coupe going for five that isnt regoed an I assume is swiss cheese metal wise. An orange one. Cant remember which site I saw it on. I am looking for a project vehicle that can fill my boring ass weekends with something entertainig. Quote

Hey mate i think people are miss construing what you mean by registerable as being able to drive it straight in and get a RWC for it. You mean that still has the ADR plate, not a race car and not on the write off list right? Quote
zzzzed Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Come on you snobby zed prat's. learn how to read. Quote
Retro Z Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 "OK nick" is subjective, but there's 2 currently on Ebay that needs a fair bit of work but are much less than 4k. Quote

You mean that still has the ADR plate, not a race car and not on the write off list right? That is exactly it. :-) The fact the above group of "handy man objects" couldn't figure that out when it was rather black and white amused me. Also the other "handy man objects" in the thread are humerous. Shows you that there are idiots everywhere you go. I'm SURE there is at least ONE half decent structurally OK 240 or 260 Coupe shell. Surface rust and rusted guard lips, booth pan and a bit in the gutters doesn't bother me. As long as it is not structural. Must have a clean VIN as it is intended to be a road car when done. If I wanted a full on race car - I wouldn't have needed to ask here. So - anyone know anyone in the sydney area with one? I am a bit chummy on the 2+2's - and wouldn't mind one as long as it was a relatively good shell, but I'm sure most of us want a 2 seater as that is what I see as cool - and what I grew up riding in once a week. Scoota G Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Sometimes conversations particulary on the interweb thingy can get off on the wrong foot, i myself have even had times when i've been ticked off about peoples comments on here but the fact is i don't carry it with me. These are a great bunch of guys with a vast amount of collective knowledge on Zeds, mechanical, restoration and anything you could care to mention that's related. Stick around, you'll find the right car. Anyways welcome and good luck with your search. Mark K Quote
luvemfast Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 What you need to understand monkey is this. We often get "blow ins" who come here on their first post and ask for something that others have been searching for, for years. You're not the first, won't bethe last. There're guys here that have been into Z's for decades, you'll do well with useful help and information when the time comes. Asking for a register able rolling shell is like asking for a pink unicorn. A rolling shell cannot be registered. Period! What you're after is a project. That with much work and love, will eventually be registerable. But beware, these things have a habit of changing direction and costing more than you've budgeted. Rough rule of thumb, whatever your budget is. Double it! Quote
PZG302 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I'll wade in again, you'll still be very lucky to find a shell good for a road car not riddled with rust for under $4k for a 2 seater shell registerable (title and numbers not on WOV register) or not as I stated in my first post. If you do find one, unless you can do the work yourself, then it isn't a viable restoration to bring it back to life unless you don't care about any return on investment. The boat has long since sailed for cheap easy resto Zeds. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 21, 2013 Administrators Posted June 21, 2013 What you need to understand monkey is this. We often get "blow ins" who come here on their first post and ask for something that others have been searching for, for years. You're not the first, won't bethe last. What others above have said is correct and I think although we may have got off to a rough start here Martin I think you'll find that once you get to know this 'clicky' bunch, we're actually on your side and in most cases helpful;). You see we are a relatively small community of enthusiasts who have been into these cars for a long time, as mentioned above. For a long time we have been told zeds will never be valuable, but we are seeing a modest surge in their values and interest in the marque in the last few years, thanks probably to video games, movies, and websites like SpeedHunters bringing this car to a new generation. So every so often someone comes on here posts an ad that says I want X for X amount and the long term people are thinking to themselves "pick a number and get in line". Now I don't condem anyone for looking for a bargain and $4-5k for a rolling shell is actually quite a lot of money for a car like that, when you consider what $5k can buy. So no harm in trying, but I think you'll need to be very quick or very lucky to get what you're after. However hopefully you can prove us wrong and you'll start a build thread so we can all see your progress . Welcome to the community. Quote

Rough rule of thumb, whatever your budget is. Double it! /Restoring an R32 GTR - Time and effort is not a problem - In restoring the rule of thumb is you spend 60 - get back 20. I don't build my cars for any kind of resale. And I don't budget for the build. LOL. I KNOW shells themselves cannot be registered - the fact anyone thought I was implying that is ludicrous. I can do all the work myself, from the rust repairs right down to the Interior retrimming. (Sad part about having a bossy girlfriend - you learn to sew too) I don't build cars for any return in value at all.I build them to enjoy them - building them to sell them for a profit is like having a girlfriend, buying her a heap of nice clothes and then just getting rid of her for no good reason. You don't even get to have fun with it when you just build it, never drive it and just sell it - Or at least I don't anyway - there are those who do. The reason I am looking for a clean shell is because I have multiple sets of RB motors with gearboxes, several rear cradles, and enough other GTR parts to make the Nissan factory proud. I would like to build - in the long run - a GTR R32 into a classic Zed, ATTESSA, HICAS, the whole shebang, but I don't think I could have the patience to do it. Let alone the lunacy to bother. I just want one I can build as a project. If it isn't a two seater that is fine - but if it isn't - I ain't paying megabux for it unless the shell is completely rust free. 3-4k seemed reasonable for a decent nick 2+0 shell - but obviously I'm five years too late, and in the wrong country. LOL. Zeds are still cheap in the U.S Ironically - because we are closer to japan than they are. So - anyone here know of anyone with a clean VIN shell, 240,260,280z - coupe or 2+2? Quote
d3c0y Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I think the thing to do here is sell teh RB26 and have the cash just sitting here ready to go when the right car comes up. Last year i bought a 240Z which i DROVE home for under $4k. So don't let all that bull shit get you down, you can definitely get a 2 seater that is restorable for the money you are looking to pay. RBMunkie Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 As asked. :-) Bought with a blown headgasket, otherwise in mint condition, no rust or dents, just dirty as. And at the moment with life all she is collecting is dust as I am still on my P's. :-( Full engine rebuild, with two GT28's, aiming for a reliable 500 at the wheels, only mods visually from stock is rims and height. Interior will be stock too. So I just need something I can work on on the side that keeps my slow momentum going as I wait for the rest of the GTR parts to arrive. Quote

Fairlady Z Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 hi RBmunkie. yeah the lingo here is slightly different. most are old farts grumpy as they lost their viagara.. well not really just stirring the pot. well in feb i sold a complete car under the price you after so yes it possible just need to wait. 240z here are like the first born don't touch it. How dare you offer a dirty RB for a Z. hahahaha well guys that have more than one (there are few here that doo) may consider it. But as said by others we get few through here. I was planing to go same path as you had all the gear but pulled the pin. run out of time and patience and too many project on the go at one time... so if u need the ins and outs i can fill you in.. it is possible but there some trickery needed regarding the front diff if going AWD and not wanting to change too much of te original car. or you can get a hilux chassis and do it that way. only one Z in Australia as AWD and running uses hilux chassis with 260z 2+2 body. . there are few in japan but none of them were good conversions in my opinion. half botched or just not right. if interested in more details Pm me or start a new topic in relevant section. just have the cash ready and punce quickly when right car comes as doesn't take long for bargains to vanish. not talking days talking hrs. Thriller has recently bought a good shell for similar money so yeah just keep an eye out. Quote
