Got few cars atm some pretty cool models like the 67 mustang and 73 camaro LT with z28 options or ltz28

Being at latest All jap day in Adelaide and seen hakosuka gtr replica in real love to get one mid to end of next year.

Replicas an be found around 20-30k for a roughy or 40-50k for a clean one. One with s20 engines but not genuine around 70-80k. Real ones over 120k which is not in my budget.

Im planing on selling the US muscle cars and few other cars in my possession to fund couple of jdm finest.

Did sniff out a 432 fairlady z still in conformation if a genuine or replica. Has s20 and all other 432 tell tales. Its either good replica or cheaper 432 as few upgrades have been installed but stock items come with the car.

Price is 70k for the car plus import and taxes.

Is it worth offloading 2 iconic cars plus two others to buy a 432 either replica or genuine. I prob have bit left to buy a rough hako gtr replica too preferably with no running gear as i got that allready.

Yay or nay is the question or is it too much money for a dato or better spend the dough on a porker that i always wanted. Though having a genuine 432 in oz will be damn cool.

Not sure what are your thoughts.

lot of money for an old datsun.... whilst a 432 or gtr would be awesome im thinking you could get something much cooler for 70K??

Lol both points are valid.

Though dilema is

Pay big $$ for a which at the end of the day is just a datsun/nissan

Any of my other classics will retain or go up in value.

Always wanted to get a 911 turbo 930 or last of the air cooled or 996/997 but than devaluation kicks in.

But want a rare car in my posession where 432 ticks all the boxes. Its unique, love the z shape, still with my favourite brand nissan.

But the other side wants power and speed and uniqness where the 911 come in.

Just thinking outloud and when it get  to crunch want to be clear minded about it and not rush into it.

Im looking allready at importation and filling in forms.

2000gt is just a toyota but still worth more than some of the exotics like porsche and ferrari of similar era. So the datsun thing may not be that bad.

Yeah sure. Great idea. Get a Porsche like every other aging douchebag!  :P

If you were a rich man, then sure why not. But then you wouldn't be rich, would you?  Pissing all your money away on old Datto's!

For that coin, would need to be genuine.

Well i dont want to get a porsche at 70. Like to get it before 40.

if you driven one you will know why they so popular with so called old duchebags as they wait 30yrs+  to be able to afford one. Only select few that are loaded can experience it. I was lucky to drive a few mates that lent me a

drive and sorry they are damn good. Hence i want one. Dont give a rats arse if ppl think its midlife crisis. I dont have midlife crisis just love sports cars

As for the coin i agree it will have to be genuine 432 before handing over the $$$.

The thing is i like sports cars i dont own one 4 door car and probably never will if i have it my way.

Lets face it some of you guys spent lot more than 70k rebuilding  just our aus spec Z. That are worth at their beat around 25-30k

I like rotary 4,6,v8, efi, turbo tripple carbies etc.. so dont have blinkers stuck on one brand only. Though very biased towards nissan. They pissed the big guys of few times which i love.

At the end of the day, how many 67 stangs are in the country? and how many Camaro's? A LOT, Just flick through car sales, or go to any local car meet and there will be Camaro's and Mustangs, The mustang thing is getting ridiculous now when you can buy one for under 20k, they are more common than seeing our iconic cars like the old EH Holden or something similar.

The only reason id drop 70k into a yank tank would be for a Hemi Cuda, like a 71 model for example, but then again, for half the price you can get a Dodge challenger, and they are just as cool right?

At the end of the day, the dam Aussie bogan mentality wins again doesn't it? Oh 70k for a Datsun! how is 70k on GT350 Rustang or some other Yank Tank any different? You get a car with a lower build quality thats for sure.

And your not really buying a Datsun, your buying a GTR! I guarantee people who know what they are looking at will appreciate the Hako alot more than a Camaro or something similar. Even for me, i see a SS camaro or a dodge charger and i think, meh, seen it before, there are a tonne here.

Personally id take a S20 powered car over anything American, knowing your only a very very small number, probably so few you can count on your hand, with a true iconic Japanese Legend.

And plus this... the sound.....

I'd love to spend that sort of money on any number of classics but I'd be a bit nervous that if I needed the money any time soon I wouldn't be able to sell it quickly enough or for the amount I paid for it.

But love the idea of a 432 or a Hako  :P

How about a stock C10 coupe that hasn't been butchered with flares?

19953.jpg

I'd love one of those, 6 cylinder body obviously because you never see them! That way you would have money left in the kitty for a hotter C10 skyline or a good Australian delivered Z project.

Posted

if you can get your hands on a kenmeri gt-r that would be even rarer than the hako lol. personally if you find a legit 432 that would definitely be the better buy than the hako.

just seeing a s20 is enough to make the jdm car fans jizz in their pants lol.

Good point guys only problem the yanks sell reasonably quickly. Yes theres shitloads of them so as many buyers not afraid to spend money on them. Mustang owner wont blink at 2-3k spending on silly things for his pony.

While dato ppl want a fully restored z for 10k.

As said above if need to sell quickly it be lot harder than selling a 70k mustang or porsche. Though porsche not easy either expecialy older ones took my mate 6 months to sell his cabrio 911.

Mustang project car i got 12.5k within a week.

As for normal hako not interested has to be gtr replica.

As for aus z projects allready have two so dont want or need another one.  If it be another project it be genuine 240zg or 432 z or replica hako gtr with flares with rb26 in it or genuine gtr in need of resto.

The point is unique special car that is not comon here.

If for performance and badge ill go the 911 route without blinking. But not that rare.

Or just keep what i got and save up for a 930 911 turbo and restore that.

Look at the price of E-type Jaguars right now, for the right model. A series I convertible I've seen them listed at $150,000 + AU which is not bad considering I've seen many in the UK for the same price in pounds!

Why do I mention this? Well a few years back 8-10 or so ago, they were a lot cheaper than they are now. They have skyrocketed in value! The right Datsun / Nissan like a 432 or Hakosuka will be worth the right money in another 5-10 years. They are getting more and more sought after, so I wouldn't let the marquee thing play too much on your mind, although it is important if you want it to retain value.

If you really want a Porsche I can and do understand it. I must say I like the 993(911) but I couldn't buy 1 myself. Too much money and I prefer the FD RX-7 which beat them in Australia back in the day. ;). So I went with the competitor car instead, plus it was cheaper. The Porsche (in Europe) seems to have retained much more value though....

As you mentioned the Toyota 2000GT is worth good money now, have you ever seen 1 driving on Australian roads? How many Hakosuka's have you seen? If you get something unique like that you'll certainly get good value out of it I think! A 432 suffers from the fact that it just looks like another S30 to the uninitiated but so do so many other special editions for other makes etc..

If you are considering a Replica buy a cheap C10 and fix it up yourself with your skills you should be able to buy the car, and possibly do it all for under 70K and you'll know it was done right!

+1 to this, couldn't agree more. ;).

I agree mate, I don't want to buy 1 as an old fart either. My g/f said if she saw me in an 80s era 911 she said it would look like I cheat on my wife hahaha. I guess it goes with the territory but for me it's about the driving experience and that Magnus Walker video really made me want a 911.

Whilst I agree I think this can only last so long. I don't think they will reach E-type values but Zs will have to increase in value eventually. Still very under appreciated, which always makes me sad, but then again if they weren't I'd never had been able to afford 1 and probably wouldn't have 1 now.

I like rotary 4,6,v8, efi, turbo tripple carbies etc.. so dont have blinkers stuck on one brand only. Though very biased towards nissan. They pissed the big guys of few times which i love.

Why? Because rotary! I love them because it annoys people ;).

Your not buying it for build quality, you're buying it because of what it represents for people. That's why those cars command those prices. Again with the E-type I know, but in my opinion the 240z is a better car in so many ways, but people love the E-type and will pay good money for what it represents, even if they are bloody unreliable, I do have to admit they have grown on me over the last couple of years. Not sure I'd ever want the headache of owning 1 though.

And your not really buying a Datsun, your buying a GTR! I guarantee people who know what they are looking at will appreciate the Hako alot more than a Camaro or something similar. Even for me, i see a SS camaro or a dodge charger and i think, meh, seen it before, there are a tonne here.

Agree it's a Nissan not a Datsun! It's like Lexus to Toyota, well that's what their marketing department wants you to believe hehe.

Personally id take a S20 powered car over anything American, knowing your only a very very small number, probably so few you can count on your hand, with a true iconic Japanese Legend.

An S20 is great, but it's not a power house, I would love a Hemi Cuda if not for anything else but the sheer insanity of it!

Sometimes replica's are better from an enjoyment point of view, you don't have to be so careful with it and can use it like any regular car. You're not preserving it's virginity haha. So a replica GTR would be just as good in many ways.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry, a friend of mine I met travelling has asked me to let him know if I find any 2 seater Z's for sale at 10-11k says he'll buy it right away. I said mate everyone wants 1 for that price. Those days are gone, unless you can find a bargain before it's listed on a public website, it will be gone within a couple of hours.

In fairness a 80s Cabrio 911 is probably my least favorite, I'm guessing it's the same for a lot of people.

If the point is to be unique, C10 GTR replica all the way ;).

930 turbo is an awesome machine, love the shape of that era. Although feels a lot less special inside for some reason. I don't like driving position that much.

If you are really thinking of a Porsche I could try and look over this side of the world for you? They seem to be a lot cheaper over here than in Australia and if it's old enough no import duty.

Good point raised by Gav,

You mention Mustang or Camaro people eyes light up. Its not the quality, handling, or performance as such. They are pony cars that they were so popular in the day that everyone know them and wishedthey had them.

A good clean 73 camaro with 350 is worth 25-35 pending condition and model.

67 mustang yes do start at 20k but they be as good condition as a 7-8k Z. Better examples are 30-40 and rhd converted still demand 5-10k more as their wife can drive them easier. On the end of the day its a ford falcon with different panels its as inovative as a rock. But people love them.

Now disregarding all that neither of those are limited run cars.

So me offloading both of them i could get a 70k car. 432 is nice unique and its a nissan.

Dont know very debatable. Prob is i want it but want to keep my current cars.

Though the 432 i found is nice. And if genuine its ok priced.

Well i wait for conformation and few other details see if worth looking into it.

If not ill wait till i find a genuine one or just get a rough hako gtr replica to play with.

Kenmeri one its ok but i preffer hako. Look very cool in person.

Id be interested in the Mustang mate, since ive finished the Z im on the lookout for another car. And definatley for the 432, No brainer for coolness and investment

Posted

If I had the choice I would go for a shmick hako GTR replica but with just a plain L series engine. Then I'd get an OS Giken injected twin can to slam in it 8)

To me Hako's are the ultimate Jap nostalgic car.

Gareth is on it...

-Spend 30k on your average Hako coupe

-Spend 30k on TC24-B1Z

Still have 10k left for bits and pieces that'll inevitably end up needing.

Less of them around than genuine KPGC10s. Quoted 420hp too...

Use a 70's Falcon as an example.

XY

Falcon 500's are sought after, to turn into replica's.

GS's are sought after also, but there is no identification from a 500. So are they original or replica's?

replica's can be as good as genuines, even using genuine parts. But not worth as much.

South African Fairmont GT's are genuine, but not worth as much as GT's.

GT's are worth some money if genuine.

Phase 3's are the pinnacle of the Australian muscle cars.

A genuine Hako, Kenmeri ZG or 432 WILL be an investment that will grow!

Replica's will be worth money, but as much as invested?

Standard models are just that. Enjoyed by people like us!  8)

If re-selling it is worrying you, probably have better luck selling it back into Japan rather than in Oz. They don't have any issues spending their Yen on a true Japanese muscle car. Few years ago they were buying Aust restored standard 240Z's for $30K+.

Phase III is a great looking car, not sure it's worth a million dollars though. But if there is a buyer that's all that counts.

I wouldn't worry about resale value like Dimitri has said a 432 would always be snapped up by a buyer in Japan, but in another few years it will be worth even more than now. Provided it's well kept and stays original. If it's missing some original bits that could get difficult / expensive.

I would definitely be talking to HS30-H (Alan) on here about any car you are looking at, from what I understand he would be able to help you verify authenticity.

Think he has said in the past that genuine 432s change hands privately and you need to 'know' the right people to get your hands on 1.

Posted

I'm yet to meet someone outside the online zed community who knows what a 432 is, meanwhile everyone knows what a GTR is, and the c10 skyline shape looks like a nicer 1600, and we know how much bogans (and everyone else) loves them

While i'd be interested in seeing a 432 in person, i'm sure i'd be just as impressed with an equally clean rb conversion with ITBs, or better yet an OS twin cam motor

Posted

As other have said.... nobody would buy it off you in oz for the same money, you would have to sell back to japan. If you were in a hurry for money this could pose an issue.
