  1. LGEE if you would like to be a part of a team get in contact with Peter Hetherington Via Z car club Qld, It dont have to be a Z, but rather than being stuck with just anybody, at least you can join in with fellow Datsun guys. Your Bluey will be fine, and if both teams are full ( ie six cars each) then the entry fee for the team is $3630, ie 3630 divided by 6 + $605, better than cost for wildcard entry. Get onto FOSC if yoy decide to do this and advise them, They will do you a part refund. While we are at it, ANYONE ELSE Want to be a part of ZCCQ Team Red or Team Blue?? Get in touch with P Hetherington NOW, do this via the link in contacts on the zccq website ( google it you lazy buggers!!!)
  2. NO WORRIES MATTY, ILL PICK YOU UP and you can drive ME home Ha HA All good ring me etc to arrange Hey what did we need to bring?? And yep PM details closer is good
  3. Hiya matt (pzg) 18's fit just nice on the Sports 2000, kinda hard to justify tyres unless I can get soem handmedowns, thy'll be on for just one meet!! House plans are sounding good, shame we wont be seeing the Green Meanie fangin' 'roun the Mount next easter. Just got back from upsetting the locals at eastern creek, they kinda don't like my GroupT Historic Prod Sports passing their Group S Prod Sports cars!!! Satday was 44 deg cels OOHHHH So Hot 1600Dave, your on the way, well done for taking a positive step, now who here is next to step up, Just contact Peter Hetherington via Zcar Club Qld, we will try to fit you in, And 'sides, it is just about the best racetrack in the world, and YOU can get to drive it quicker than the Police patrolled 60 kmh limit, and use BOTH sides of the roadway. My blue 280Z with 4.1 diff and 610mm tyres was doing 7400 at 235 kmh approx down Conrod, and it was shaking like a fresh rasberry jelly, front end lift, and stock brakes too, when Jack Elsegood in his GTHO XY Falcoon belted past me, at like 270kmh. Scary shizz, but a heck of a lot of fun ( Not trying to scare you off guys, but I was in the full races sections, not the nice gentle relaxing easy regularity, where YOU ARE NOY SUPPOSE TO RACE Ahem Ahem)
  4. Mob called "Gassol" in northern suburbs brisbane can make whatever you need in copper, he is ex ACL. If using the MLS ( Multi layer Steel) at $410, look to surface the head and block at at least 40ra smoothness to give superior seal. I use to use the MLS, but found re-sealing was an issue, I know use a "pro-torque", with 40ra, it gives me what I need.
  5. 1600Dave, with your past track work and time spent you are def not a noob at this, you know how it all works etc The idea of officiating for the Fri/Sat and Sun will be of great assistance to FOSC, let them know you wish to do this. Dont worry about the car or it's level of performance, the regularity relay event is all about you as a team member nominating what you think you can get as close to, time wise, and, if you go slightly under or over, you/team loses points. And so on for each other team member. The idea is that the team that loses the LEAST no of points is the winner. Generally you will find that there will be two teams that will try to"win", and the remaiing 50 or so teams couldnt give a rats arse, they just all want to have fun. Me, I give no pharque to win, just want to DRIVE RACE CAR. Z 1600 Sunny 120Y they is all Datsuns, and 'sides if it is going to help a team by including you, it is to the benefit of all. Just 'cos you dont have topline speed down conrod, you will be in a far better position to be able to be closer to your nominated time. Crikey, a guy called Tom Law in a 1600 VW Beetle has been a regular regulariy winner in NSW for many years, the car is consistent, and he knows it is too If you would like to contact the Zcarclub Qld and be part of their teams check out the website, the team manager is Peter Hetherington, his contact details are in the contact/committee page. ring or email him to see if they will take you on, tell 'em we spoke, and you ran the NDN09 event, and you know some of the QLD faces. I can only guide you, as I am a member of a NSW based rally team, ( I am thinking that if the 2000 Sports may expire on the Fri/Sat/Sun, my backup car for Mon/Tue is an old Datsun 120Y that used to be driven by a sheep farmer in Talmalmo, it sort of goes quickly) I do rmenber you from NDN, and the 1600, so yep, come and play!!
  6. sounds cool, Now all I have to do is remember it is on!! Clayfield has such lovely wide streets, parking shouldnt be too much drama keep me posted thanks
  7. Hmm dunno if it qualifies, but at Eastern Creek last weekend, HSRCA Historic race meet, in my orther Dato, the Sports 2000 hysterical racer, managed a 1.53.23 in race 3 Group S races on the Sunday Yeah I know it's not a turbo whizzbang, but it is all original with a U20 motor. A WHAT Yes a U20, original from 1967 Didnt too so good in R1 or R3, engine electrics went in R1, and in R3 throttle cable snapped, after I managed to get into fifth o/r gggrrrrrrr
  8. Z Car Club Qld has had two teams provisionally accepted for the Monday and Tuesday events, They do have a few vacancies for other Zed (or anything else - Dave 1600??) cars avail. if interested contact peter Hethrington who is the ZCCQ Team manager via the club Qld website/contact details etc, to let him know ASAP you wish to be in with us. We really do need six cars per team to share the workload, so if you are thinking of entering and are not already part of a team, DONT WORRY you can join us, ( I am in with two teams of six cars on my Datsun Sports 2000, along with four other Dato Sport 2000's) The Zed club Qld teams ( Team Red and Team Blue) have only four cars each, so there is room for two more in each? LGEE are you in a team? What about you 1600Dave? PZG302, where are you?? Sorry Lurch, I can love you like a brother, but no-one drives my beasties! Why dont you BYO, You'd be more than welcome. Hurry up guys entries close real soon. It is regularity so you dont need full on type cars, your general duty road going Z will be fine.
  9. Report from this event in the link below http://www.zcarclubq.org.au/docs/40years.pdf
  10. PZG302, you SHOULD def consider this, It looks like Zed car club Qld have got 12 members wanting IN on this, some will pull out, so ?? Thats two SIX car teams just for the Monday and Tuesday regularity practice/relay. Some will be there from the Thursday doing Frid/Sat/Sun races as well I'll be running my little Datsun Sports 2000, some one told me I got a write of in a recent Australian Classic Car Mag?? Get your entries in they will be oversubsribed for sure, and close dec 23rd. if you haven't run with FOSC, pay carefull attention the the "Experience and what you have done" section so they can assess you. In 2008 over 750 entered and paid they accepted 600, we ended up getting 55 car full grid feilds in the Sat and Sun races. Lap 1 turn 1 Hell Corner was always going to be interesting!!!
  11. Ah Yes, but I DO KNOW WHAT I LEFT IN Lurch last weekend!!!!
  12. FOSC (google it) are running club races on the Sat and Sund, with practice on the Fri, then on Mon and Tue practice/qualifiying and a six hour regularity relay race, similar to Winton and phillip island type events, you need a L2S CAMS license. Check out the FOSC site for further details Qlders galderdi is keen to do the Mon/Tue, dat2kman will do Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue/, and we are trying to rustle up interest, but, if anyone is interested in putting togehter a six car Zed team from any State, lets do it. the team entry fee is a reduced cost per car then individual entry fee Races are approx 740, regularity approx 730, team of six cars cost 600 each approx. If anyone ( admin/mods) is able to post the supp regs on here that would be a help. Entries close 23 Dec, there will be huge interest in this, I ran it in 2008, and had a fantastic time, To do it again will be even better. Who wants to join a Zed party on the Mount, Heck they even have a Z in the Promo poster!!! WOOOOO HOOOOO
  13. My bloody windscreen isn't in the car long enough to start the frame rusting, I seem to get from two to six bullseyes per meeting, and then one or two cracks. probably cos' i just travel to close to Shelby Mustangs, Porsch 911's and DeTomaso Panteras with their big wide sticky tyres spitting loulders off the race track at me. The radiator where the wire screen doesnt quite fully fit gets peppered too Thank goodness for the $180 screen, a bit of detergent and some electrical wire to pull the inner rubber of the seal back in, after I kick the old ones out!
  14. just once, and only once mind you, I managed to better Jon Siddens at Morgan park in 2008, Matt, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE YOU NAUGHTY BOY, told ya I shoulda showed you the "way" Just got back from Sandown Historics 2009, lap time in the stock prodsports logbooked Groups Dato 280z, a 1.28.2 Caught up with Lurch, Ash and Dimitri, and Mr Lurch ( Dad!) Great to meat you guys! I hope I didn't give you the shi*s too much, Lochie!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Am aware of this "fix" in rally cars, it has now been done and tested at Sandown Nov 2009, car has bettr "turn in" and feels more stabe mid corner, lap times were improved to 1.28.2 from 1.29.5 with no other changes. I just wouldnt have belived that we can get as much as 6mm deflection "tuck under" from our stubs The rally mod was to stop the stubs/struts from bending upwards on severe landings. Our old 260Z PRC rally car had that mod, We went on to place 4th O/r in Rally Australia in 1987, and won outright the NSW State Rally Championship in 1988. Very strong car, and it is still surviving!!

Matt yes you are right, little gain for a lot of effort, but, as I am constricted by GroupS rules, I did a lot of flow bench testing, bear in mind it is all through a "stocK" throttle body and at 28**cc after all the work, I have found that the P90 does do a better job ---- in my application. What doesnt help is that some other GroupS Zeds are running HS8 SU carbs (pommy 2" off Rover/triumphs etc) however, the CAMS elegibility guys are clamping down, which is upsetting them, but at least I am staying with them. The whole injection thing is a real bastard to work with within the CAMS rules. As an aside, the Porsches are given the OK to run 8"rear rims and 7" front rims, but they never sold them like that, It was a"FactoryApproved Alternative" for them. Shit we had Sumitomo mk63 calipers, vented rotors, disc brake arse end, and 8" front and 10" rear rims, ALL IN OUR HOMO papers, but CAMS wont allow it, likewise, CAMS wont allow the 240Z in GroupSb even though they were sold from September 1969 somewhere in the world. My 280Z was NOT sold in Aussie, but they allow it, so why not a 240 in Sb insted of putting them in Sc. I know why, cos CAMS already got a scare when the first original Datsun sports car, the Datsun Sports 2000 absolutely blitzed the Group Sb ranks. Well thats my little whinge and rant. Nuff Said.

true, but when you machine 120thou ( 4mm) off the face, and introduce some angle milling here and there, somewhat grossly oversized valves, you end up with a head of equivalency to the n42, better quench and flame path flow, and the superior port runners compared to the inl/exh flows on a n42, You cannot use the stock timing chain guides, look at kameari's solution, I have a couple of their setups avail for sale, and better to consider a vernier type cam gear or a multi hole, if you must. Other option, is to go for a lower rpm torquier motor, my thing, i just rev the tits off it to run with the group S guys, and I have to use a 14" diam rim
  18. Hi Greg, the 4.6 and 4.8 was common in some 720 trucks at the front, The 4.4 ratio is a rare Nissan Sport ratio and I am pretty sure was not a common fitment, Jon Siddens was chasing one a while back to keep his targa car with the r180 ( rules) but couldnt find one, By the time I told him I had one, he had come up with a solution, he went to different gearing in the box and smaller diam rim tyre combo to get what he was after. Mind you he was running 4.8 or 5.1 I have got a collection of r180's that I am crazily keeping for when I re-live my boyhood dreams of a Dasun 1600 rally car with a holinger c/r box, a L 2.4 grunter and a lsd r180 arse, but, they are just dreams. Come twist my arm and lets do a deal 3.545 complete, would suit a car with a truck box that has the 3.59 first gear 5.143 complete for the short spint type events and high rpm 3.7 dissassembled, and, said 4.375 Nismo option jobbie, dissassembled, can supply with a open or welded hemi. SORRY NO LSD'S jason
  19. Is that Ran as in Ranald, and ash as in his son Ashley? If so then Tommy is Rans brother up here in Qld, and Suzie at Murwillumbah, and Ran and Tom know me, and my mob? Congrats on the JWS buy! I just picked up a Group U elegible RX7 sports sedan. If Ran happens to wandering around the pits at Sandown for the Hysterics on Nov. 6/7/8 ask him to look out for a dark blue Datsun Z, No 23 It'll be me, Jason L Sorry I won't have any PRODUCT with me to give out, it all melts too quickly!
  20. Any here had experience with this: On my 260/280 race car, I am getting (depends on wheel rim sizes used) a distinct grinding of the inside lip of rim onto the bottom of the tie rod end. At static, there is approx 5mm clearance, bear in mind when looking, from say LHS at wheel, the Tie rod end is at 7 o'clock, this would indicate greater movement at 6 o'clock ( bottom of the rim) than the said 5mm+ ability to grind rim into tie rod. This only occurs when i fit a 15x8 rim with +4 offset ( performance superlights) and I have the AZC bumpsteer/quicksteer knuckles fitted ( yes, no bumpsteer and quicker steering, but it is heavier) I am clearly getting either or both stub axle bending, or, stub/backing to strut tube bottom bending. The struts are about to be "wedged and welded" at the bottoms of the strut to stub backing area. With my Datsun Sports 2000 race car that has factory upper and lower wishbone front, I have had a stub axle snap, caused plenty damage, but the stubs on these are approc a fat thumb in diameter. The Z stibs are much thicker. I now hope much stronger! Question,------- Anyone ever had one snap?? In rally/dirt use I can understand one snapping under severe landing situation, thats expected, it will initiate as a break at the "bottom" of the stub. The Datsun Sports 2000 on, x ray, and x ray of the unbroken other side, showed up that a hairline crack evidence on the TOP of the stub. Ie; due to cornerring forces, the front wheels, due to grip levels of our modern tyres, are being forcibly tucked UNDER the car, thus causing flexing/bending. I have lost approx 1/2 degree of static front Neg camber in two years, using same alignment guy, hence now getting "wedged and welded" Stew Wilkins was a stickler for this on rally Datsuns, not so important on others, maybe we should be looking closer and x-ray testing our 40 year old componentry, only to rplace it with further 40 year old componentry, I turned up steel bushes that fit between the inner bearing races of the outer/inner front wheel bearings for the Dato 2000, maybe a pair for the Z might be in order. Lurch, jump right in here:--- Anyone else???
  21. 1 set of six here in Brisbane, fitted with ARP bolts. sell as full set ( 2 spares!) L24 133mm gudgeons are 22mm ( I was using Isuzu G200 87mm diam pistons with 40 thou off the top to get correct pin height and a flat top slug - works well) You are probably using a L16 crank, most other Escort performance engines do, only 'cos ( not cosworth) Datsuns are better!!!!!!!!

    My Cam

only proper way to do it is to do a dummy engine assy, with No1 piston in on the crank only, snig head to block set up cam chain and dial it up, using dial indicator and a degree wheel on the crank nose, better to take readings on either side of tdc, more accurate. You will then be able to graph out a curve this will give duration/overlap/lift, while at it, then try a different camsprocket hole, and see what this will do for your cam to crank timing ( retard only with the stock three holes) I'm sure it will have been well covered here somewhere.
  23. pzg302, simple, stick me in your car, I now know which way the track goes!!! Only one problem, I'll be on my way to Sandown for that weekend.

    Classic Japanese

just so as we all realise, the jap show this year 2009, had NOTHING to do with the Z Car Club Qld, I would contend that the current organisers had very few classic type jap cars entered so, they opened the doors to all sorts of jap stuff, and certainly not "classic" material.

    Classic Japanese

well what an absolute balls up that was, apparently, on other forums the event is getting an absolute bagging, shame, it was run very well by Zed car club Qld in the past. Maybe next year?
