usually run a 4.375 at Eastern Ck/Qld Raceway/Lakeside/winton,/morgan park and sandown but for PI and Mt Panorama I run a 4.111 running Group S spec 195/60x14 rubber, 0.83 fifth gear and 7500 rpm max whats that work out to kmh wise?? with 4.1, I reckon max speed approx 230kmh, and with 4.3 220kmh The entry into turn 1 at PI and Easterncreek at these sort of speeds has the car floating, and driver holding breath and puckered additional centre seat grip in full fluctuation, especially when there's another two or three cars right next to you doing the same thing.

Historic racing car club Qld, one day race meet at lakeside today,18/10/09 Blue 280Z set fastest lap time in all three races, two second o/r's and a 1st o/r. ( on stock brakes too --- fffaaarrrkkkk) Bit of a mixed feild, main rival was a V12 365gtc Ferrari with about double the HP, and decent brakes. Got down to 62.06 today 6 Lap rolling start full grid races, (not supersprint/lapdash) At the Zed Car Club Qld birthday couple weeks prior managed a 63.06 and took out fastest Zed for the day big yay to me

Look at a RB25 DET rear wheel drive skyline box, the bell would need to be cut off, and an L bell, or an adaptor plate used. Some of the s13 s14 s15 sylvia guys are using the rb25 turbo box, with stock bell, but are using a 1 inch thick adaptor to mate the rb box to the sr motor, biggest problem I can see is they also need to use a machined boss to move the flywheel back off the crankshaft by the said 1 inch, in high rpm situation, get this wrong even by fractions of a thou misalignment and it's a didsater waiting to happen. However, the current crop of sylvia drift guys dont really care, example, just look at the condition of their cars after they have been "hard at work" drifting.

I got a few of the early 240Z boxes, three are the standard close ratio,(2.9 first) one is the mid close ratio (2.6 first), and one only ultra close ratio ( 1.8 first), most are set up for older Dato Sports 2000 motor, but can supply bellhousings and extension housings to convert to Z car use. I'm considering offloading one or two pretty rare, and these are rebui8lt with new bearings/seals etc from Lou M, but have been in my Dato 2000 race car, so they are "run in" reasonably well! They are all flanged output type ie 71A

Use your L series bell housing to start with. It will need some machine work depending on bearing size you use for countershaft, and cluster face needs deepening by 120 thou (3mm), and topmost selector rod hole opened up to 16mm from 14mm. If you are wanting the 71C cluster (rather than 71B) and are after strength and durability, look for a second hand box from something with a RB20 turbo RWD car It will have the input drive/driven ratio of 1.409. Good wide thick gears, nice chunky synchro forks You can either simply give the cluster assy to Albins in Bendigo/Ballarat Vic, and they will machine off the 1st/2nd/3rd gears from the bottom cluster shaft, and press fit/weld on their new outer gears to your existing many year old cluster shaft, they then provide all new 1/2/3rd main shaft gears, you will need to supply new dogs and synchros. ( cost, dunno, last I heard approx 2200??) You will end up with a usable close ratio box and a 1:1 fourth BUT, fifth is a horrible 0.752, it'd be OK with a 4.375 or 4.1 diff for longish straights on some track ie Bathurst/ Phillip Island, but with the 0.75 changing from 4 to 5 will not give any acceleration. Solution is to look at dismantling other RB late model type boxes to obtain a 0.83 fifth, they do exist. ( dunno about a 0.9 fifth though ) Other option is to look up/Google "Kameari" learn basic Japanese, ( or Ben Zed or I can get it for you!) ( after you have got pricing from Albins??) supplying you a brand new countershaft with all gears intact and not welded on, and main shaft gears (Ex Japan) made to Nissan specs, ( not Option type), these are Helical cut gears with standard dogs and synchros, you then get your local gearbox and diff shop to re-assemble the box with these brand new items, and, it's a solid strong close ratio box, still with a .75 fifth though! I got a hybrid Nismo Option 1/2 box here that goes into an old Datsun 120Y, it has full dog ring engagement and is helical cut, input ratio is 1.2:1. I have also done the close ratio setup on four L series 71B boxes, and am doing a 71C box at the moment. Only killer is the crazy Jap Yen to our Pacific Peso exchange rate!

Short notice, but, on Sat 26th Sept, Zed club Qld are running a untimed navigation ( simple and easy to do) from MtCootha Botanic gardens carpark, start at 9 am, Just get there to enter this run, no pre entries or formal paperwork etc, it's all just for fun! Then, ----- on Sunday ---- Track Attack timed sprints at Lakeside raceway, be there at approx 8.30 am, if wanting to enter check out the "Track Attack" website cost is $170, you also need AASA license, get that on the day, usual sprint type requirements for car and driver. Zed club is celebrating the 40th birthday of the Z car, and the 25th birthday of Z Car Club Qld, giveaways, prizes and awards being given out, and a 370Z track car is being arranged 9 hopefully) or, a road going 370 from Ian Boettcher Nissan. If you are using the injection plenum??, ( dont think you are Greg) you could use the cold start enrichment nozzle as a Nitrous nozzle, but would have to introduce additional fuel to stop lean out. NO2 ( Nitrous Oxide) has two parts oxygen to one part Nitrogen, therefore at stoichiometric ratio of from 13 / 14 parts air to 1 part fuel, you would then need to ensure the inlet tract system will flow the required air. The fuel system can, with mods deliver the required fuel If using six runners you would need six NO2 nozzles and six fuel injectors to deliver the additional. The three Weber type carbs would be on wide open and once "armed" a button press will introduce NO2 and fuel at same time, trick is to make sure the quantities are spot on, or "KABOOM" A little squirt here and there helps plenty. You can buy Nos bottles and refills quite legally, trouble is putting/hiding it somewhere!

I've got some in car audio recordinds of Shekar Mehta/Roger Bonnhome in one of the works Zeds at 1973 Southern Cross rally, built 240 motors sounded so very snarly back then.

THAT box has a drive/driven ratio of 1.523, first is 3.5, second is 2.2, third is 1.9 fourth is 1.0, and fifth is 0.88 My guess is it's from a truck like a 720 rearwheel drive. Possibly also from a 280 zx or a 260 with a 3.5 diff ?? Filler plug def on LHS I have three supposed 260 boxes that have the filler on the RHS, funny thing is they are not the desired "close ratio" 2.9 first gear ?? Only way to be sure is to crack'em open and count the teeth, only takes a couple of minutes to do it! It'll be used for spare parts.

The RB20 DE and RB 20 DET box has the same lenght extension housing as a regular L series type extension housing, so, you dont need to worry about getting a tailshaft shortened. The difference between the DE and DET, is the DET ( turbo) box has thicker selectors forks in 1/2 and 3/4, with a better reverse/fifth slide selector mechanism The RB 20 DET come out of the R32 skyline rearwheel drives with the 2 litre six cylinder RB motor ( not the RB25 or RB26 models) The FJ20 DET will also suit this conversion, its ext housing is the stock lenght, it hasn;t got the big selectors that the rb20dethas, but, the same as the rb20de ( non turbo) Bugger, I have like nine assorted boxes all of the above all pulled apart and I should take some pics and LEARN HOW TO JOLLY WELL POST THEM Also I have made up a very neat simple mount to fit these later type box ext housings to our Late 240/260 shells, using the STOCK gearbox metal cross member, two bits of 12mm thick rubber, and a bit of 5mm thick steel plate

Hi Alan yep I remenber catching up with you at NDN09, good to hear from you again. I'm running the Z at Sandown 09, and am thinking about?? bringing the Dato Sports 2000 (it now has aGroup T Logbook- Prod Sports with a genuine racin history) d to Phillip Island for the 2010 Historics, I will have to get the event directors OK to be allowed to run it with the Group S cars, otherwise it'll be the blue Z in 2010 Hi Mike (NZeder) John McKeons thing runs anyting from 15x8/10s with wets or street type semi slicks, up to 18x8/10's with radial race slicks, depends on what he is doing with it. We keep talking about getting him to come down to PI or Eastern Ck to do either Island Magic, or a six hour race or one of the six hour regularity things. There is approx 15 or soreasonably good quality Zed cars running over the ditch here, and only a couple of Datsun Sports 2000's in various race meets. Up here in Queensland there is a pretty healthy contingent of Zeder's that do the street sprints/supersprints, around 15, most are road registered cars. It's good to see Nissan/Datsuns are very strong in NZ
