Well if Jon Siddens ( Targa Tasmania like for 10 years in one of Australia's quickest "Classic Class" Zeds ) has/had a towbar on his Targa car, I dont see why not. Jon has been known to have a problem on more than one occasion with his 720 King Cab ute, and has put the ute on the Datsuns trailer, and used the Datsun to tow it home after an event. No problems at all.

for what its worth, I run 10mm toe in on rear, and 3mm toe out on front, approx 270lb springs, and stiff bars at each end, with no rubber in the bar links, spring perches have been lowered, I run a 6" rim ( control tyre size) and at 2009 Phillip Island Historics Sunday 12 lapper, in the pissing rain, was running third outright behing Porkers of Morgan and Adler, with Hall"s white Zed on my tail, we were all aquaplaning and twitching down the front straight, and hitting water wall on track around Siberia, I looped it, Hall got in front of me, I then came up onto Sperry Spiridis in the DeTomaso at full noise spinning in front of me down main straight on next lap. I had no brakes or steering, due to water on track, I just backed off throttle got some steerage, and passed him nearer to the pitlane wall than I wouldhave liked. Ended up fourth behind Hall. Tyres were 185/60x14 Kumho V700, quite low on tread. I feel that by using such a "skinny" tyre is what enabled the car to do as well as it did, considering conditions and car setup. Camber is around?? -2 deg on front maybe a bit more?, castor is approx +3deg, rear arms had to be cut and rewelded to get the rear toe equalised. Zeds under hardish acceleration tend to move into +toe at rear, due to all the elasticity and movement in all the joints/connections. I had a Westfield clubman with IRS once, on hard bump/compression at rear, the outside rear whell went into TOE OUT, great fun! I checked out why it handled so evilly by doing a bumpsteer test on the rear ( with shocks but no springs fitted) and discovered over last 20% of movement in bump, it went from -1/2 to plus 3mm. No Camels were harmed during this procedure. I have seen real old photos of Zeds racing in Japan, ( On Japan Watanabe website) in the dry they run the homologated rim sizes, ie 8"fronts, and 10" rears, with rather tallish period style race rubber ( this is 1969/70 I'm talking) and in the wet, they whack on the stock 4.5 " wide stock steel rims with tyres puped up to like? 60 psi to cut through the water. They handled perfectly. Said drivere are wearing "pudding basin" style helmets too!

Lgee thanks for that, I'll wait to hear from you. Re the KU36's they certainly are low cost, considering their performance capabilities, my young fella has them on his 180SX type x, ( usual mods etc 220kw atw leaves R32 GTS's for dead around some race tracks - he gets the giggles) I use Kumho V700 Victoracer, and the almost slick V710, far softer compound than the KU36's, but 2 1/2 times the price ( 225/50x15) so yep I know how good they are. The Bridgy re55s's are for my Datsun Sports 2000 using an 8x15 rim, for PI next March. then Bathurst three weeks later, thay need to be 205/60x15 to comply with CAMS group S spec rules, even though my car is a Group T/GroupO ( historic Prod Sports with race history back to 1968) to keep the other Group S Guys happy they want me to run on 60 aspect, It wont matter, I'll still clean em'up at PI, ( touchwood - if I dont have dramas with it) Wait to hear from you. ( I got a price here in Brissie, I think they loaded up on freight - damn pricey!!)

Unfortunately Bill Blydenstein passed away during 2009, RIP Thanks to Kameari (Japan), Reg Cook ( FJ Guru in NZ) and some USA suppliers, and the assitance of Ben Diggles ( Fastest S12 Gazelle in the world) and his uncle Jeff Watson ( Healey Sprite FJTurbo beats Victor Brays Chev doorslammer) the FJ 24 is back together The Y will be coming out to play sometime in 2010 with a possible trip to Victoria later in the year. Getting back to the Giken jobbie, there are so many similarities to the original Nissan factory LZ twincams it is uncanny. There is one here in Qld, ( given to it's current owner by Howard Marsden in a works Stanza rally car, as a "factory backdoor special") and one also in Vic ( Feral) (The FJ t/c's are wider in the upper end)

my two bob's worth, Ok so you dont want to go turbo, Licence requirements? Dunno, but if you did, consider a SR20DET set back close to firewall, great weight balance and overall car weight reduction, You can get up to 400 hp at flywheel ( reliability??) without pulling them apart, and over 500 with a "built" motor. There's your horsepower! Ok less torque but the benefit is less overall weight. 260DET in here did a FJ20 turbo mod, quite mild tune, it went very well, and at least it is all Nissan, like a SR. I am doing a SR det into an old skool Datsun Fairlady convertible ( 1967) and wont even bother with external mods to motor, mind though finished weight will be approx 850kgs. Having been mucking around with old racecars for a while, HP isn't everything, it does help, but weight is your enemy bigtime. Anyone here done weight comparos between L28, RB25DE, LS1?? SR20DET with box is 222 kgs RB25DET with box is 300kgs, and it sticks well over front axle centreline Gee, thats like sticking a Dimitri under your bonnet between to radiator and the fan !!!!!

Cool, A six cylinder version of my four cylinder! 88mm stroke, 93mm diam pistons, t/c head full counterwieight crank, h beam 140mm rods, drysump oil setup All stock from Nissan UK engine builder Blydenstein! 55mm dcoe webers 290hp at 9600 rpm Waxhead saw it last week! Its going back into the 120Y soon

260det, Very much agree. Especially when the lack of contribution then becomes exploitation, and the lack of willingness to at least attempt to comply with written supp regs that everyone that attends is able to quite easily achieve. I did enjoy my involvement in the 2009 event, and would not mind being involved again in the future, all politics aside. When a great bunch of people set their minds to it, good things do happen, and did! At leasrt track hire at Morgan Park Qld, and Wakefield NSW ( for 2011) is a bit less costly than PI. I have had info that the "Second Organiser" of the Original Classic Jap Show in Qld has secured Lakeside raceway in 2010, September?? And now we have some other "classic" jap show being organised. ( Awards for the most chromed dipstick will be presented) Just watch, before too long it will all implode, if it hasnt almost done so, and we will revert back to a proper Nationals type event.

The other issue here is the five cylinder modification. Audi, Volvo and Ford(Focus Turbo) have proved it works, It may not be the case with Nissan, yet, but persevere! Sorry couldn't resist, But, look at releiving the rocker cover air pressure build up, as the drainbacks to engine are pretty small, and the crankcase breather is also quite restricted, especially if it wasn't removed and cleaned thouroghly ( gauze pack) at last engine rebuild. Worst case scenario is it could be head gasket, but I doubt this, as the main oil gallery feed from block to head is between No 3 and 4, this pic is showing weep around five! I drill them out a little( oil restrictor plug at block deck surface) to give better oil delivery/volume to upper end, but, pay attention to oil return into block, and, oil pressure from pump.

mxtopsecret6, Waxhead looks like he is gonna bring a pair of these back to me in Brissie ( he is on the Goldie) cos someone ( Nick ?)down in Melbourne wanted the pair that Waxhead cant use, for a Dato 120Y Sports sedan, I have offered to get these to Melb for Nick, but Waxhead is waiting for Nick to make payment arrangements etc, if that doesnt work out between Nick and Wax, then you are welcome to then come by mine and do a trial fit to your car, and yep they will fit, but it will need to be flare city to do it. You can then make payment arrangements etc direct with Wax, cos' he owns them now, and it is his call as to what he is gonna do with them. Lgee, I sent you a PM regarding pricing on some more rims, I havent heard from you, any word yet?

280ZX front and rear calipers with rotors Brisbane
dat2kman replied to dat2kman's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
No probs, rear setup will be kept for you ring me to arrange etc jason -
Waxhead, these are the deepest dish you can get, at Neg 26 on a 10" wide rim they stick WAY out, and yes you will def need a ZG type flare to just cover them. You will also need to trim some original body metal away to stop tyres fouling esp. if susp. is lowered. ( note these rims are not the usual ones I run on my own Z car I cant run ZG flares!) If your'e in Brissie, welcome to swing by and have a look. The pic on Performace site doesnt quite show the huge dish these have. They should have a "Dish Warning" on their site

Cast Iron, unequal size pistons, but, there is four per caliper! Throat width is 23mm, so yep a narrow vented rotor, or run a stock solid rotor with some spacers behind the pads to prevent pistons coming out too far ( Spacers? easy get some old pads, grind off the pad material, and hey presto, some pad backing spacers!! $250 the pair Located Westside Brisbane, or can pack and post at extra cost, or if you can wait!!, I can deliver to Melbourne next March ( phillip Island races) jason
-
will separate fronts and rears, both sets of rotors have plenty meat left, calipers have pads ( dunno what tho') rear calipers have all handbrake cables attached. The lot ( front and back rotors and calipers and cables ) $200 Located Westside Brisbane, can bring down to Melbourne next March ( Phillip Island races) if you can wait!! Jason

These are brand new, and have some rather deep dish, ( neg 26mm), the "backspace" is at 112 mm, and are the eight spoke model, in all silver, ( pics? just google Performance Superlites) They would only fit if you had ZG guards fitted and some of the original guards metal trimmed away. Tyres NO, but I s'pose if you were into "fooly sik" you could STRETCH some 205/50x15's on em!!!! They are seriously cool at 10 inches wide. It is a set of four and priced to sell at $1100 the lot Located Westside Brisbane, pick up prefered, or can box and post at extra? Or I can deliver to Victoria next March ( Phillip Island races) if you can wait!!!! Jason

JE or CP ( both in USA) will make you exactly what you want and need, you'd be looking at around $1500 AUD There are piston manuf in Aus, try Ross Pistons. Otherwise try Stewart Wilkins Automotive /Rallying he is in Penrith area NSW. It would seem that you are not trying to "re -invent" the wheel, and by keeping it close to stock, will keep costs down. FWIW I have used in a L28 ( 79mm stroke)with L24 rods, Isuzu/Gemini G200 87mm slugs, with a bit shaved off the top ( flat - no dish) 22mm pins, much lower pin to top compression height. Improves my rod to stroke ratio for higher rpm power delivery. Only issue I have had is that the bottom skirts on thes ( they are cast alloy, not forged) tend to break off and score the bores due to piston slap, mind you I rev it to over 7000. I now use forged from CP with carefull attention to design/oiling/ring thickness etc.

Damn good turnout, Thanks Steve Well done to all for the effort Jason

Matty Hold the phones unless the 16" rubber is gonna be a "giveaway" then I'll have 'em for testing etc. The Group S association had "words" to me at Eastern Ck re my "incorrect" tyres, so for Phillip Island and Bathurst I am going to fit some 205/60x15 Bridgey RE55s softs on my 8x15 rims, and hunt around for a 4.4 H190 diff centre rather than rev the titsd off it with the 4.6. It says I can in my homolgation docs, Let us know what you can rustle up re the 16's but!! Pick you up Sunday for Steves thing, then HRCC are doing a thing at the regatta, I was gonna drop in there. Oh BTW I picked up some "well Wicked" 15 x 10 Performance Superlights in Neg 26 mm offset, At least the Sports 2000 has wide enuf flares to cover em. Dunno if I wanna keeo em but. They would look spastic on a ZG flared 240/260 Getting rubber is a drama. Might whack up a for sale post for em soonish??
