    Noisy Tappets

manufacturers will NOT tell you that the zinc content is either very reduced or nil, in todays oils, due to EPA and health concerns blah blah. Run a bottle or two of either LAT or Joe Gibbs ( xp4 or break in - these are mineral based, or, xp3/xp6 - synthetic base) they contain high zinc content. Bugger the EPA then have a look at the cam! Also the oil feed hole in the block, ( it is a press in insert) is stock at 2mm, drill it out to 3mm, and run the higher vol oil pump, but get rid of the single spring, use the double spring set up silly question, is the cam an internal drilled one, ( cam tower oiling), or an undrilled for use with a spray bar??

got a 4.375 with or without the limo centre unit located The Gap Brisbane, closer than Western Suburbs Sydney, seeing as you is Nthn NSW, shouldnt be a drama to come get it!
  4. So you want to do a bit of track work, and fix one up, that may not be in regular condition? See pzg302 posts on here he has a fixer upper, comes with heaps of bits and spares, the excess stuff you could on sell to help fund the project!
  5. Peter, re Koni shocks, do you know the valve specs? What number of " clicks" did you have the adjusters turned from minimum for regular road use, any more than four clicks from min would have had the car riding harshly. The springs, do you know the pound rate for them, if not not to worry I can work it out I need the outside o/all diameter, the wire diameter, to at least 00.00 mm the total number of coils include any half turns etc. I know the standard Kings for the Z is approx 260 lb, good for road use!
  6. The crank from a 260c sedan is better for us, Nissan never bothered much with drilling lots of nasty holes in them 'cos the older folk that was the 260 c market didn' rev their engines past 5000 Less drilled holes = less stress risers= less breakage = easy to knife edge and lighten. It does have a casting number, but I can't tell you. ( it is inside something!!)
  7. Other route to go would be a crank scraper, this " wipes" the oil and helps get it back to the sump quicker, reduces aeration and drag. Btw I have a new crank scraper for L6 engine for sale, fits under main cap bolts and runs from 20 to 40 thou clearance. $150. Far less cost than a full Windaus tray, along with the custom caps and girdle combo as above. The girdle is very good at reducing block flex, and they do! I also rowel a cast alloy thick wall sump the the block for extra rigidity. All a bit over the top for normal street use though!
  8. 30 july 2011 Morgan park Qld, Historic production Sports Cars feature race, set fastest lap with a time of 1.30:3 Long circuit 3.0 km just had to post!
  9. natsoft race 32 has me setting fastest lap, with a 1.30:3 fourth o/r in the Sports Car Feature Race well pleased Now who wants to buy a very good stock standard historic logbooked production sports 280Z - $45K
  10. Well spotted.!! When I am in Melb for events my father in law and I call in to say hi to al-pal, he is very interested in how I go in the historics. His sons Dato 1600 is in the workshop at Toorak, hence the Dato interest! I caught up with Pete Arca in Germany a couple months back, he is working for Chinese auto makers designing cars, last project was a rather odd 4x4 for the Saudi's, too much "bling" I said, Pete said " they pay the bills!"
  11. Young Richard, as you well know my propensity for lack of capability in regards to the facilitating of digitized media transference from one device to another, combined with the lack of knowledge insofar as production and final composition, and the distinct lack of infinetistinal patience to then make all things uploaded, it shall remain on my pc. Heck I can't even work out how to burn it onto a DVD/CD Anyone for film night at my joint?
  12. Ahh yes, Jon was in his green car, not the gun Tarmac orange/ black car, and he was running in the regularity events, which he won for the weekend, he nominated 1.35 and was only a poofteenth either side during events. The U20 engine will need con rod bolts, all new 50 mm inlet valves, seats, piston flycuts Dremeled smooth, while at it new bearings and we need to look at the oil pump, it has slight scoring giving only 60 psi at 1500 rpm instead of usual 80 It'll be out and back in within a month. Ps I'm in for the Alpine , see ya there, do you and the Tassie brigade want to join the "official"service crew, I already have approx 20, the more the merrier!! Ll
  13. Dat2kman took the giant killer Datsun Sports2000 , but in qualifying managed an engine over rpm situation which caused all inlet and exhaust valves to be not so well seated, 9000 rpm did this, total driver error. Went home to bring out the well known group Sc Datsun 280Z, and as this car was not considered to be " qualified" to set grid position, he had to start all remaining races from rear of grid in a 34 car field, at such a disadvantage, you would think he would be an bit aggrieved! Best result was a fourth outright and a best lap time of 1.31:0? Passing Ferrari's , 327 Corvette, Porsche's and many others Fellow Z racer an Tarmac specialist Jon Siddens was circulating in the 1.35's Track layout used was the new extended full perimeter three kilometer long circuit The dark blue stock prod sports 280 was driven to within an inch of it's mechanical capability, it now needs a gearbox freshen up!
  14. Hello!! I'm here! Already pm'ed Peter mc Got one only later option 1/2 hybrid from Holinger, it is for the 120 Y, but I have a option 1, and option 2 older style, these were known as a Mid close and Ultra close. Also got two very tight rebuilt close ratio 3 piece boxes. All are flanged outputs. All for sale Not cheap Bye
  15. At tonights club meeting it was decided by the majority of a few, and, Sorry to announce this event has been binned , while in the gestation period. It was the consensus that it would be a financial risk to the Z car club QLD to commit to this, and without any surety of event participation number, to be able to make it pay. Estimates at this stage would be in the $12 to $14 k mark, and unless attendance numbers achieve approx 100 ( the DatNats here in 2009 had 74 entrants) then the losses would cause much anguish, apparently! The recent LapZ at lakeside raceway cost the Z club $12,000 to hire the track from QR/Lakeside for just one day, entry fees in was $12,500, so the club made a profit of $500, but to hire Morgan Park for THREE days would cost approx $10,000, but that is too risky apparently. Can anyone do it better, there has be be some experts out there!!! How do the financials for the John Mott event at Sandown held recently tally up, I'd be interested to compare, yes motorsport is expensive and risky, but if we don't have a go at doing something our cars all sit in the garage and whither away!
  16. Oh and it will be titled "JAF-Superlap" aka; "Japanese Auto Festival - Superlap" It wont be purely Nissan Datsun, but as organising club, well, we will be accepting as many Nissan Datsun cars as possible!!!! Maximum entry capped at 120 cars, as per the track requirements, and no not all 120 will be on the track!, only approx 8 to 12 at a time, depending on whether we get the 2.1 or the 3.0 km circuit. Format will be 3 laps, standing start flying finish a pair of cars at a time, 15 seconds apart, overtaking and racing is allowed. NO DRIFTERS _ Morgan Park is a Drift Free Zone
  17. It will be Queens Birthday Weekend 2012, a three day holiday for most Aussies, with events on the Saturday, Sunday and the Monday, so yes interstaters will need a day or two off work. It is not at all a Nationals type event, but more an emphasis on getting as much bang for you the competitors buck at a supersprint meeting. With a drag stip right next door, and the burnout pad, and plenty of nice grassy areas to park and show off nice shiny looking cars as well. One question we do have, do you all want trophies, or do you want less cost for the event entry fee? The Z Car Club Qld is having its next meeting tomorrow night and we will be discussing this then, and, more details to be posted soonish!
  18. What about my favourites, The Thunderbirds, and The Banana Splits, with that catchy theme song, and the 6 wheel amphibious buggies! All items were returned, and the culprit is well sorry, and now aware of the power of the internets???
  19. Yep we had a good talk, upshot is that bent as it is Matt is going to sell it as well as his rather decent collection of parts off with it as a whole job lot, this would make it quite easy and cost effective if anyone on here wanted to convert a stock Z into something quite decent mechanical wise for street or track use, and with all the stuff extra Matt is going to throw in for the one set price, the buyer can either keep as spares or sell off to others to recoup cost. An alternative would be for say three or four members pool funds and take the lot and split it amongst yourselves. The rear and turret are not bent, so the shell will make a good rear half cut. You will need a trailer a ute . Matt will be playing in a Datsun two door, but something a bit more interesting, after all I probably have some influence over him, he is a good steerer, has racecaft, and wants to play and should while he can. BTW I have driven this Z and can vouch well for it as a package of engine box brakes and suspension. Now someone here pm pzg302 and throw him some moola. Quickly!
  20. I like this much neg offset, I have a little red Datsun they could fit onto just nice. Would you sell without rubber, and what approx does each rim weigh, a close guess is fine, and I am not down to Melb unti Nov, so would need them held, collected by a kind soul, or freighted to Brisbane. If sell without rubber what price pretty please?
  21. Aaaahhh so pleasing to see! As a past Nationals event organizer, we try to split all entrants up into as many classes as possible so that the great majority get to take home a nice bit of tin/wood/plastic/glass, all shiny like. Classes can be for 0 to 1400 cc, 1400 to 1800 cc, 1800 to 2000 cc, 2000 to 2400 2400 to 2800 etcetcetc, as wel as stock STD, not so STD, slightly nodded, nodded, well nodded, crazy mode, mild race, crazy race, then thow in registered and unregistered, OK you get the idea, but yes there is nothing quite like something to proudly display for your efforts, and we want you to come back again and again smo that you can get a hat trick of awards. The z club QLD is planning a decent three days of track, drags and burnout action next year Queens birthday weekend in June, at Morgan Park Warwick, which is located two hours closer to Sydney and Melboune, than a track in the Brisbane area!
  22. Major issue I see is that as a "guest" a visitor is not known to anyone, does not post anything, but can read and monitor so much information. Fwiw set the forum up in total as locked, and if anyone is keen or in anyway interested in what we are all about, they can register, and in the registration process they supply some basics that enable the mods to have some possibility of reverse tracking them if need be. Other thing, any new applicant should / could be introduced by an existing member, although this could be a bit precious. I am on other forums where this is required, and because I want to be there it is not an imposition in anyway.
  23. If the little blond turd with the silver 2,4L skyline is monitoring this forum, or anyone who knows of said little turd, was to make anonymous contact to arrange to leave ALL the stolen items so that they can be recovered, it may save him from a rather vigorous talking too by a number of unamed unknown forum members, when, and not if, they catch up with him. By the sounds of things and with the member base not only on here but on other Datsun Nissan friendly sites, it won't be too long. OK! Return the items Quickly, and this is wise advise.
  24. Matthew, ( serious time now) do not be too hasty , take stock of what you have, and what it has taken to get the car up to the stage before the smacking you just gave it. It will be salvageable , Rich Graham had similar to his at Classic Adelaide a few years back, car was repaired and now all good. The cost to start over is going to be prohibitive, what you have is a repairable decent package that can still perform quite well, so if you are going to sell it off, don't give it away for next to nothing. Certainly pull it apart but before you sell stuff off get a few of uus to look at it stripped and let's see what it needs. Or you could just go silly and buy my blue Z, you know what it is like! I can foresee that you will turn into a coiffured hairdresser type with a Mazada Em Ex 5, me thinks.
