  1. yes, my understanding is all 260zs had R200. Kinda weird cause the 280zx had R200 for the manual and R180 for the auto. Just as a side note: It is a common conversion to use the moustach bar from a 260z to convert a 240z from the R180 to an R200. Having said that I have just converted mine back to the R180 for a weight saving.
  2. Neuby, I have an EFI manifold you can have for $20. and I am in QLD I can get it to Willowbank this Sunday 20/09/2009 if that is any help. Otherwise I am near Strathpine. Thanks Greg
  3. .

    DOH!!!!!

The other day I took my 240z for a test run after installing the new bonnet and front bar. It turns out I had forgotten about a jerry can of fuel in the boot. It tipped over during the drive. The lid was still on so I didn't notice any smell. But over the last few days it must have been dripping out. It soaked the right side of the boot ran down onto the drivers side floor. Where ever it had pooled it softened the paint. much like paint stripper. My poor car !!!! What did it do to deserve me? The photo in the Fibre Glass instructions was taken after that drive.....why didn't someone notice it in the photo?
  4. not without major modification.
  5. I was about to post a nice reply. But I think I need to go change my undies Nice job guys
  6. New pistons? Why? If they are necessary they will really bump up your total.
  7. Actually I do have a stocking over my pod filter. It extends its life..... just a little
  8. Heat Sock Yeah you gotta watch those heat socks. Leg warmers are even worse................... Just kidding.
  9. Really? I guess it depends on the knowledge and experience of the person doing the modification. There are so many considerations: Correct volume Ground clearance Cross member clearance Pickup positioning Correct sealing against the block Warping Get any one of these wrong and it could be a disaster. But then again I am always keen to dive in and give something a go so let us know how it turns out.
  10. Come on guys. Ease up. The sledge hammer comment was just a reflection on the risk you take when you ride a motorbike. I don't interpret the comment as an attack on motorbike enthusiasts. The responses in my opinion are far more aggressive than the original comment. The risk is an established fact. Good luck to anybody willing to take the risk. I will just admire the bikes in one piece from a distance.
  11. with a bit of imagination and a lot of fibreglass you might be able to turn one of these things into some sort of LE Mans styled road car??
  12. Mate, welcome. You can always kill two birds with one stone and build a muscle car from a zed. Just don't do it to an perfectly straight car or my eyes will water. Oh and by the way if you are new to zeds don't forget that there are 2 seater 260z as well. So if it was the 2 seater shape you are after don't limit yourself to the 240z. Good luck
  13. a while ago I started a spreadsheet containing common part alternatives and relevant mods required. I quickly lost interest because nobody else was willing to contribute. The ideas was the ability for a novice to look at a certain subject and see the options that were commonly available. The idea really only approached the problem from a single angle (The zed cars). To take the idea one step further it would be great if it was multi dimentional. In other words one of us (a Zed owner) lists a part (Part A) with a part number and some details for a particular purpose eg to replace (Part B). Then someone else enters the same part number (Part A) but describes another application for a totally different car. If the second car has other parts listed (Part C) for the same application, then using a simple database query you could list all potentially similar parts. In other words a novice could logon and ask for an alternative to Part B for a Zed. Not only could the database list Part A but would also list Part C. Obviously the person would need to validate Part C. But you can imagine all the extra options that would be listed. Its like creating a shortlist of parts to consider instead of checking every part in a wrecking yard. Here is a theoretical example: 1.I enter Part number 1234 as an Air con compressor for a 280ZX 2.Sexual Sushi then enters Suzuki Vitara Air con compressor part 4321 as an alternative for a 280ZX (with a note saying no mods required) 3.Then "Mr Suzuki enthusiast" enters Toyota Rav 4 Air con compressor part 9876 as an alternative for the Vitara compressor (with a note saying no mods required). 4.Then if Gav searches for compressors for a 280zx the database will list 280zx part number 1234 Suzuki Vitara part number 4321 (with no mods) Toyota Rav 4 part number 9876 (Assumed with no mods)
  14. Has anybody weighed an aluminium radiator and compared the weight to a standard 3 core radiator? If so what is the weight difference. I guess its not quite that simple though. If the aluminium radiator capacity is bigger then it would hold more water which in turn would add weight??? What I am really trying to understand is whether the overall weight of the car would be altered by swapping to an aluminum radiator? Even if it only saves 1KG I'd still consider it. By the way, anyone tried those cheap chinese radiators? If so what are the reports?
  15. Fronts aren't so bad. Quite a few guards around. But hacking into the rear quarters makes me cry. But I do like the results.
  16. Cleaners can rip you off too
  17. It really depends what that includes. If is just the bare basics with no upgrades then it is a bit more than I would expect. Like I said I know a place up here that quoted me $2K for a basic rebuild. But if you start adding extras like new cam, balancing etc it starts to head skyward. I think $1800 is achievable but rather optimistic. I agree most of that would be labour. Here are some estimates (give or take) I put together assuming you could do most of the job yourself: Part Expected Cost Total 736.65 Rings 145 Conrod Bearings 37 Main Bearings 126.5 oil 40 oil filter 14 gasket set 183.12 Chain tensioner / Valve Guide 6 Water Pump 69 Valve springs 116
  18. .

    t bar auto mod

just move the dash forward by an inch or two
  19. Anyone got any opinions? Of course you do. I mean anyone got any opinions whether adding an intercooler to an NA engine increases power? I guess the question is whether the drop in air temperature fully makes up for the added restriction to air flow. I guess thats why it works ok on turbos because the air is forced through?
  20. I met a guy about a year ago who told me he has a Dihatsu Cherade. One of the old 3 cylinder jobs. He reakoned he had converted it from 4 stroke to 2 stroke and gained 50% power in the process. At the sacrfice of torque. Anybody know if it is possible? Obviously as a minimum it would take a very special cam and ignition setup. Imagine a 2 stroke zed
  21. I don't have an auto but wow thats one of the best tips. Great bang for buck.
  22. Nice...But I would expect my zed to look like that in that "Cars" movie. Can you paint a face on the front?
  23. Thats why I have a non zed daily drive.....which some bar stool screw drivered the locks on both sides....Now I am forced to get in through the hatch. I wonder if it was the same guy that tried to turn Stevo's zed into a motorcycle??
  24. There's no real reason why you can't convert to manual. You just need to get a hold of a gearbox, peddle box and clutch master cylinder.
