  1. I used to deliver pizzas. I once reversed into a driveway. I was being really careful because the customer's car was parked there. Suddenly...."BANG!!!" Even after I hit I didn't know what. Once I got out I saw a pole that was 18 inches into their driveway, exactly in my blind spot. DOH! Luckily this was well before I owned a zed.
  2. I own both a 240z and a 280zx. I often ask the question of friends and family and it seems that anyone who is into cars prefers the 240z while the others prefer the 280zx. As for the comment about the USA, don't forget they had the 2 seater 280zx. That roof line makes a whole lot of difference to the styling. I'm not sure I would go so far as saying its nicer than the 240 but the 2 seater 280zx is a lot closer than the 2+2.
  3. I do have both pair. I'll send a PM.
  4. I should have the lot. I will double check and let you know.
  5. Now you've got my interest
  6. Yeah very satisfying. My previous 72 second lap always bugged me a little but it was my first time around Lakeside. Even so I did not expect to get down to 67 in the next visit. I just need more time to sort out the best tyre pressures. My next mod is a hydraulic handbrake (although this won't help around lakeside). After that my immediate mods will be: 1. to fit my fibreglass rear bumper. 2. to finish and fit the fibreglass guards longer term mods will be: 1. after market ECU 2. Perspex side windows 3. A new engine taking more time to pay attention to the modifications aiming for more torque, less revs. I Was finding my times improved at lakeside when I was using the torque of the engine rather than the revs.
  7. Went really well took 5 seconds off my personal best (from 72 to 67). Considering its only my second run at Lakeside I am really happy. I need more track time to get more tyre data and I am confident I can save another couple of seconds with the current setup. So my current target is a sub 66 second lap. Then I hope to lose another couple of seconds after I make the rest of my mods. Long term target a sub 63 second lap.
  8. Sorry guys, can't make it this wednesday..... Keep us informed of the plans though
  9. I am happy for you to have it for a couple of weeks. So long as we nominate which couple of weeks ahead of time. Let me know which weeks suit and the best way to get it to you.
  10. I do have one but I don't wish to part with it. I can lend it to you but I am a bit nervous as I've had issues with people not returning stuff in the past. How long would you need it?
  11. I managed to pull 5 seconds off my previous best at lakeside. My new best is 67.8 seconds. Not bad considering it was hard to get a clean run with all the traffic and I was having fuel surge issues and had to skip a few laps. All in all a very good day. I still think the car in its current setup has another second or two in it. Still getting the tyre pressures correct. Managed to record a heap of tyre data. Plus I still aim to increase the horsepower a little and remove another 20 Kgs. One of the other zeds cracked a 62, but I don't think I am aiming for that yet. I am happy striking a second off at a time.
  12. wow the postal service is really slow in your neck of the woods if you are just receiving it now.
  13. Hey guys, I have been interested in trop fest for quite a few years now. I actually managed to submit an entry a few years back. It was my first attempt so didn't perform all that well. But it met my objective which was to learn the process of creating a short film. They have announced the key word for this year. It is "dice". In Tropfest this means you have to include the word or the object in the film at least once. Other than that its up to the writer to create the story. I found from my previous attempt that man power is the most dificult part. If anyone is interested / has any great ideas for a short film please let me know.
  14. Kalium, I thought you have a 280zx??? Or am I thinking of someone else. If yours is a 280zx I really don't think you'll notice much improvement with the hilux setup. Not enough to justify the cost of conversion and the fact that you either need an engineer's certificate or run the risk of voiding your insurance etc. If you have a 240/260 then all is good. Well worth the conversion.
  15. Hey guys, I found a new weight to control the weight distribution during races. I have attached a photo to demonstrate the method:
  16. I am a fan of Mythbusters. I like the entertainment factor. But I do agree their methods are not reliable. In this particular case they used some huge yank tank that probably had 2 tonne sitting over the rear end. So no great surprise the shaft gave way first. Do the same thing with one of our zeds and see what happens.
  17. Sorry to revive another old thread. I am having a little trouble also when trying to select reverse. Unders normal conditions its not too bad but in a motokhana it causes grief. I took apart my second gearbox over the weekend and the gear I believe to be reverse is a bit chewed up. Anyone know if it is possible to replace the reverse gear with one that has a syncro? If thats not possible can someone tell me if the VL box has a syncro on reverse? Just a little side note: As I dismantled the box I had a couple of small springs and a ball bearing fall out of the main assembly. I hope they weren't floating arounf in there while I was driving the car 18 months ago.
  18. Guys, Is there any chance of another Ocean road drive? If there was enough notice I would drive down from Brissy to participate. I have been wanting to do the drive in my zed for years. I know its disappointing to organise an event that is not well attended. But I think you are right on the money. The best events I have attended have always been those that require a formal committment. Whether that is a deposit, booking or formal RSVP. I would be keen to help coordinate if that makes any difference. If there is no chance then I will just have to do it by myself
  19. Don't NZ car have to deal with salt on the roads like the UK? Wouldn't that mean more rust?
  20. I really like the end result....but do I think it was worth trashing the 240z? I don't think so. If it was based on something less worthy it'd be a different story....... I wonder if anyone was made a kit to convert a Ferrari GTO into a 240z??
  21. or maybe a 432z
  22. Usually people only resort to importing when the model they are after is not available here like the 280zx 2 seater.
  23. The vents I am after are the ones that came on the later model 260z. They are plastic and sit on the bonnet towards the windscreen.
  24. Hollow out an old house boat and cruise it up in that.
  25. I am using 260z hinges on my 240z. You do need to grind them down a bit and modify the bolt holes a little but they do work
