  1. It looks like I might be buying a 280zx this weekend for parts. Just getting the word out early because I don't want to store much of the car once I pull it apart. It is already missing the diff, rear suspension carrier, bonnet and radiator. I already have a buyer for the engine. It does have a 5 speed gear box and all the other various parts. Let me know if you are after somethin specific. (eg electronic ignition, gearbox, panels etc) I'll post more detail once I have taken delivery (assuming it doesn't go pear shaped)
  2. I was 6'3 at 13 and 85 KG. I was too thin. For someone else 85KG might be ok but for me my ideal weight is 100KG. Does any one know the weight of a standard seat?
  3. I really like that orange version Really sets the stripe off.
  4. Well I am 110 KG but I am also 6 foot 4 inches so even if I went on a dramatic diet I only stand to loose 10 Kg. I am aiming to shed about 50Kg from my 240z. I'm aiming to have it down to 1000KG with a cage and half a tank of fuel. I just bought a VL starter. It weighs 3.4 Kg the original zed item weighs 5.8Kg so there is another 2.4 KG of my 50 KG target. Thanks for the tip Lurch. Now I'm just wondering if there are more tips like that. What mechanical items can be replaced with more modern alternatives? Also what is the wieght diference with an alloy radiator? Anybody weighed them?
  5. I'm going a slightly different direction. No LSD for me (well not yet anyway). I am going with a system that is an open diff most of the time but becomes a locker when a wheel begins to slip. It then reverts to an open diff when you take the foot off the gas. The system is not suitable for general use on the road. It only costs $300 but needs to be replaced every couple of years. It is an old concept (around since the 50s) so its passed the test of time.
  6. I look at it from a slightly different angle. Yes I prefer the pom version and the Aussie guys have a lot of improving to do. However no show ever runs 52 weeks per year so I'm happy to watch the Aussie show until the UK version is back on. It might not be as good as the UK version but its better than most of the other stuff on TV these days. Also it might not be funny but it does have local content that the UK doesn't.

    AUZRUN - 2010

Apparently not. They are determined to take it back to just Zed Car Nationals. Their choice Too far to drive the 240 and there's not enough interest in a 280 so count me out...... unless I have a tow vehicle by then but I doubt it.
  8. yup thats the one
  9. Here is another. Particularly like the light weight headlight cone and have a look at the right blinker attached to the bumper.
  10. Here is a picture from the East Africa rally when the zeds were winning. I got this clip from Lofty Drews who was the navigator in the winning car in 1973.
  11. I've tried to butt weld but its so hard to hold the stick with my cheeks and I won't even mention the sunburn.

    AUZRUN - 2010

  14. at least when I bought my heap I only paid $600 and I knew what I was getting into

    Rev needs parts!

I probably have some buried somewhere. But I'm in Brissy.
  16. Well thats a bonus (getting extra horses with little outlay) The engine probably loosened up a bit too. Anyways good luck with it. Any plans to improve it further?
  17. Hazard swich.....um yeah did have a bit of an issue there.....my hazard swich = push indicator left, pause, push indicator right, pause, repeat until safe
  18. I think I met the previous owner. When did you buy it? The previous owner was a little narrow minded but I think he got all the work done properly. If it is the same car just ask All Star tuning if they have the dyno readings for the car.

Yeah you are righ all that stuff that happens over broadmeadows way, Must seem kind of, insignificant compared to a damaged Zed
  20. A standard 2 seater in excellent condition (like winning shows condition) is worth up to mid 20K A good solid car with no faults (nothing worth repairing) is worth 15K or so A car with a few faults might be more like 10k A car needing a restoration is possibly worth 5k A car thats needing a lot of rust work and panel damage might be worth about 2K It really depends how quick she needs to sell. If you have time put it up for sale with a high price and see what people are willing to offer. Otherwise wait until a few of the guys on the forum are getting together and take it to them for their opinion.
  21. yeah maybe try catching some Zeds he he
  22. anybody ever thought about putting a Bugatti Veyron style back on a zed? either just the black paint or even flaring a little and the black paint
  23. Mate that is a beutiful concept. Its hard to isolate the changes though. The main one is the curved A pillar....I don't think foam and bog can reproduce that. I used foam to fill the sugar scoop headlights then made a mould of the whole panel. The process works quite well. Buts its not cheap. You still end up using a heap of bog.
