couple of grand??? Its a two seater. It would have to be very rough to be that cheap. A solid 2 seater will get $6K any day of the week.

Climb under the car and check every nut you can see. Make sure they are all tight. You'd be surprised how many nuts can work loose. Specifically check the nuts on the drive chain. I suspect they haven't been checked since your gearbox conversion. Also when was the last time your brake and clutch fluids were replaced? It might not seem like they need it but brake fluids take on moisture from the atmosphere they also get gluggy and can clog your lines if not replaced regularly.

I probably have a few of those parts. But I'm not confident about condition.

Also if you are replacing your alternator you will need to know if it is inernally or externally regulated. A really rough guide is if the alternator has a bulge in the back that has some elextronics it is internally regulated. If your alternator is wired to a small box of electronics screwed to the engine bay then it is externally regulated. If you aren't sure, post a photo and we should be able to tell. The size of the alternator depends how much battery power you plan to use. If you don't drive the car far each time it requires more starts which uses more battery needing more charge. Also big lights powerful stereos or other electrical devices draw power. But I can't imagine any of these would be a problem for you so the standard size alternator should be fine.

Mate, I imagine in KL with the humidity etc that rust would be a problem. Make sure you garage that zed religously. Zeds hate moisture! And make sure you get rid of any bubles as soon as they appear. Make sure to take pics of any drives you take it on. I'd be interested to hear of good driving roads around KL. I've had my 280zx since 1994. If you look after them they will last for years

yeah thats a great point. So many of the parts you get from the USA were actually made in Malaysia. If only the manufacturers were marked on the items.

wow. Thats weird. 928s. Such a specific model yet they obviously don't know what one is. Ah its all good. You know we really should take a poll. Then when we run into porsche owners we can tell them how many people think our cars are porsches. This is a true story. My wife's step dad owned a porsche. He was on a country drive when it broke down. He had to leave it there for a few days to be fixed. It was about 90 minutes away. When it was ready he sent my wife's mother to pick it up. Once she had paid for it she phoned him to let him know she was leaving. Then he was surprised when she arived 20 minutes later. He exclaimed "How fast were you driving?!!". She responded just 60mph. In disbelief he asked her to show him on the gauge. She pointed at the tacho She had driven a porsche at 6000 rpm in 5th for 20 minutes. You do the math.

I was given a 260z 2+2 for nix. I had quite a haul to get it home but I figured I'd be able to use all the panels etc. To my surprise it had an L28 in it woo hoo. That engine is now in my 240z I almost took posesion of a 280zx from Mt Glorious. It had a rat living in the glove box.
