  1. If you can't get the airbox to suit the early SUs try finding tumpets instead. They look sooooo cool.
  2. One of the guys at Bathurst had a similar issue. It turned out that the plate that secured the Dizzy had broken allowing the dizzy timing to change freely. Check to see if the Dizzy can turn without undoing the screw.
  3. Been there done that. Mate don't worry. As Rev said there are a heap of helpful guys here that will help you at least diagnose the problem. After its all sorted you will be wondering what all the fuss was about. Mechanics that know carbies are a dying breed. You are best to learn about your car yourself. Then you have the option of fixing it yourself or worse case at least you will know when someone is taking you for a ride. Did you retain the orginal carbies? Or at least the manifolds? I hope the mechanic didn't take them from you. If so do you think it is too late to grab them back? The zeds are a glorious car but do require some upkeep....but in the end they are well worth it. Chin up.
  4. My 240z has a passenger side airbag....but only when my wife is in the car

    L28 in Brisbane

hmmm I seem to detect a connection between the reduction in the number of cheap 280zx wrecks and the number of cheap L28s. A few years back I could regularly pick up a wrecked 280zx for $600 or so and L28s were floating around for $300 or so. Doesn't seem to be the case any more. Hence my reluctance to part with my spare.
  6. Found out this morning my brother ran his Sandman around Lakeside in the late 70s…..I hope he took the surfboard off the roof and the mattress out of the back first.
  7. I was driving behind a first generation (1977 - 1983) Daihatsu Charade this morning and I noticed that the brake lights look very similar to the 240z. Of course I am only going by the basic shape from 20 feet away so they may not fit?? With the price of parts for the 240z getting more expensive by the minute I was wondering if anyone had tried to fit Charade brake lights to a 240z? Or is there something else that makes a better conversion while retaining the original shape? I don't currently need to replace mine, but they do have some cracks etc so its good to know what budget options exist.
  8. Nooooooo!!! There is a Subi STI diff on Ebay and it is a 4.44 but its in Japland ah well I will keep looking.
  9. The chasis # is stamped on the firewall above the steering column. I don't know where the engine number is stamped, if at all.
  10. If you fly up, I will let you drive my car. (Note this is a bog standard Toyota Starlet)
  11. Anyone heard of this before: http://www.option1garage.com.au/FullLockMotorsportPark.htm
  12. Helene, That is a slight problem. However we might be able to work around that. We had spoken about the posibility of removing some of the items requiring work. We can do this portion of work while the car is still in Lismore. Once we are past that stage we would need somewhere to work on it as a whole car. Some of that work may be possible in its current location but certainly the final steps need more space. The down side of this idea would be the need for us to get down to Lismore to work on the car. Maybe we can plan around a long weekend or something. Is there somewhere we could crash? If we can get it to those final steps before moving it I would be happy to have it in my shed to finish it....The idea being that those final steps would only take a few weeks. I can't commit to having it for a prolonged period. The only other consideration with this approach is weather, because it would not be good to move the car at that stage unless we have clear weather with low humidity. We won't have too much control over that. I will talk this over with the guys and see what we can come up with.
  13. You / Dusty might like to consider a price for just the BBQ incase anyone turns up just for a look.........I hope the BBQ is not going to be me cooking my Zed

    L28 in Brisbane

I believe that one is sold. I have one for sale for $5,000
  15. just as a matter of interest. What sort of performance increase would you expect from a slotted disc compared to the standard disc of the same dimensions?
  16. I don't think it is a cooper, they look like the standard wheels, not the wider cooper variants. Great photo Would have been scary with that lift by the end of conrod....there was no Caltex chase in those days. It makes me wonder if I was not the first to drive my zed around Bathurst...considering mine was from Sydney.
  17. name this sound "Bang, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud" No its not a head board on a Saturday night.....Although that would have been much more pleasant Yes, you guessed it......A broken uni. Just took the car down to supercheap for some globes. Not driving too radically and bang etc etc. I think the damage must have actually occured last weekend during the motorkhana. Here is a photo of the damage:
  18. run with those, they are in better condition than mine.
  19. Tell him to paint it fire engine red!!! He will feel right at home
  20. I have a set you can have for $15 plus postage....but are you sure you want series 1? Most people go with Series 2 for that conversion.
  21. Mike, You do realise we will miss a motorkhana on that day??? Jason, Do we need to do anything now? Or is the ball in your court? Anyone know if this will be an RFZ event
  22. I'm good for 1 pm also. Sexual sushi, Do we have another image of a 2+2 in that colour with standard wheels and no flares....just in case we need to consider reducing the costs?

    Z oil pick-up

Is it really worth worrying about a pickup, given that L series spit all their oil through the valve cover gasket anyway
  24. Yup I have one from Alfa motorsport. My purpose it is great. But it does bow in the middle of the top. You could probably modify it to sit down a bit. Everything else was perfect.
