Apparently Adam did his research and these examples of enameled shift dials are not that common. -

To my knowledge there were only a handful of design changes in the 2 door door versions between the 240z throught to the last of the 260z's First was inner door frame mount points for the pull handle and trim mounts between the 240z and 260Z Second was the introducion of a revised lock mechanism in the last of the 2 door 260Z's built towards the end of 1977 when they were last sold in Australia Otherwise, the outer skins and the actual door frames retained the same stampings up until that lock revision meaning they are all identical. Could it be one of the following that has caused this problem. A: The slam pillar on your Z was modified (Rust repair section) previously which altered the profile? B: The door you have hung was modified (Rust repair section) previously which altered the profile? Cheers John

No offence to anyone here when I say this, but, Why the hell would you want to paint a car in 2K at home period? Most on here saw the Ford Probe I used to run around in done in a Pearl Red color, it used to be green. I did all the body work for that car at home, smashed front and drivers 1/4 and high filled the entire car. The only 2K paint work I did was to edge up all the swinging panels and jams so as all that needed doing was the final outer panels. HKSZ, 2K is the superior finish on many levels, and 95% of a great finish is in the prepwork, I would suggest that if you want to go 2K think about gping down the route I just described and then as I did have the car trayed to a good shop with oven and have them apply the final outer coats within an oven environment, why would you risk screwing up all the final outer paintwork prep? As I said, please dont take offense. Cheers John

TOKYO MOTOR SHOW - NISSAN UNVEILS A NEW DATSUN......
Sirpent replied to CroS13's topic in General Discussions
Gentlemen, let us critique this silvia concept for what its worth. You have to love the Mazda front grille treatment which harks back to the Mazda 6 of 6 years ago.................Score 1/10 And if we use some imagination, the front guards to the bonnet and grille are very current gen RX7.................Score 1/10 Im sure that the headlamps are straight out of a Korean makers 4 cyl parts bin, just cant put my finger on it..Score -2/10 Please, a vehicle of this day and age with triangles for door handles? why even door handles ?...............Score -4/10 This thing must be fast, its using F1 side mirrors !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please................................................................Score -9/10 They had no idea how to finish off the 1/4 glass so disguised it as (a) a highlight (b) chrome, you choose........Score -5/10 This is what I like the most, what you cant see but is hinted, Z4 BMW ass end treatment, not cool...................Score 2/10 Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh then use triangular Hyundai tail lamps, very trick..................................................................Score 2/10 What I actully like about this car ? The A pillar, glass and roof flow.....................................................................Score 10/10 (Thankyou Mercedes_Benz C Class engineers) Yes I know cruel right ? No actually, I agree with others, Nissan put away the crayons and do what you used to do best, come up with design ques that become classic, not kitch, The 240Z H/L buckets, the tails treatment, the 1/4 glass, the flow of the 2 seaters roof, these are the classic lines your people came up with, yes maybe borrowed but purely yours in timeless exicution, the features we all fell in love with and why your cars are loved and still here with the ppl on this forum. -
Scoota Not arguing, just stating what Bottomley advised me, and form memory there may be something in an email I copied and pasted from him in my thread about this point. As far as my car is concerned, It was a May 1975 complied vehicle and it did have the canister which I removed in the 80's when I ran the triple 45's, if you look t this photo of a photo I just took and uploaded, you will see to the left of the compliance plate and aft of the radiator is the purch bracket which the canister sat on originally, that bracket has now also beed deleted from the engine bay. Cheers John

OK, I may as well chime in here My original engineer, Paul Bottomley advised that as far as fitting the AMG C32 M112 into the Z was concerned, the only requirement I had to oblige to was carrying over the original 1975 Carbon Canister set up which Dimitri kindly got for me a year or so back. So, anything else that the AMG came with that isnt required to actually make it motor along but complied it with 2002 ADR's can be jetisoned, the M112 is not therefore required in the Z to meet the 2002 standards but rather the prehistoric 1975 standards. On the subject of 3.1.3 This refers to non OEM replacements such as a MoTeC replacing an OEM unit, the mapping of the OEM is set to meet ADR requirements, or more usually the US Californian requirements which are the worlds toughest, replacement of an OEM with an aftermarket does not mean that these standards are maintained or reached therefore 3.1.3 should be read in that context Cheers John

Is old body filler epoxy or polyester - how to tell?
Sirpent replied to PeterAllen's topic in Body work
Hi Peter Photo's can be evasive as far as showing the true state of the material in your pic, however, I would suggest that any pink material, which is clearly body filler is removed period, some of the old fillers from years back can have disasterous effects after being refinished as you just cant tell what they will do once refinished. The tan colored material must be glass, I would suggest that unless the feather edges of the glass filled area's can be lifted away with a finger nail that the adhesive qualities are probably very good and removing them would probably be a worthless exercise, most applicators of glass material are usually a lot more anal about the process and I would trust them before someone with bog. If she were mine, I would prep the panels having removed all the filler, seal her up in polyester spray and then do as the U.S. restorers do and rework the panels after surface checking for defects with a good body filler like a Wurth or Spies Hecker product, dry hand sand the panels back with a marine plywood block, then once surfaced re-seal the entire car in 2K Hi-Fill and finally wet surface sand again. Wish I was closer to take a better look and do a panel for you. Cheers John -
Is old body filler epoxy or polyester - how to tell?
Sirpent replied to PeterAllen's topic in Body work
Hi Peter Fillers no matter how old will still exude a particular smell after being uncovered under paint and sanded, polyester fillers soak up solvents as they are porous, and epoxy wouldnt. Sand part of the layer back and have a good smell of the paper, if it smells like filler, or a combination of filler and thiners it probably is, if it smells more like fiebrglass, then its epoxy. Either way, you wont have any issues with epoxy surfaces prepared correctly as far as applying a new layer of filler over the top, personaly without knowing exactly what you are up to, Id take all the old material out and start over, one good even application of new material sanded back correcly is always better than new over old or multiple applications over one and other. Cheers John -
Guess I'm lucky as these are the full twin motor electric set ups

Well, guess it all comes down to body types, being 6ft tall and the other side of 100kg's, a mate of mine had a Club in which I spent some time in and I found them supportive, apart from that spent a fair bit of time actually sitting in the ones I have in the garage reading the Sunday papers and was pretty happy :-)
