  1. I thought he meant 10K is out of his budget.
  2. Great job, looks better again to what you had before and in my book its a bonus you found the rust and were able to fix it.
  3. He sel, welcome to the forums. I noticed you are selling a L24 in another thread. If this is the original motor from your 240 i would b keeping it
  4. well done who's the lucky buyer

    Fuel Pumps

yer no worries, only offering it up as it is a 5 min fix to get you going again as oppossed to the hours spent putting in a electric pump.

    Fuel Pumps

Sach i have a replacement mechanical one that might be for sale. It was working perfect 1 month ago when it came off
  8. You r mechanics option one sounds the best and also the most simple, you will still get good fuel economy out of that and is a simple swap. He sounds like a good honest mechanic. I would not use that same auto elec either considering what was already done..... Also if you are serious buy a old l28 $300 and for $1000 get your mechanic to freshen it up, gives you satisfaction that $1000 has actually gone into the motor and has been done buy someone that knows there stuff. Buying secondhand efi gear can also lead to more problems aswell because after all it is secondhand. Just so you know go and price some l28 injectors because theres a good chance you might need some.

From memory around 2500 rpm but i couldnt tell you what diff ratio i have. Was this a straight swap as i agree with you on all counts and also i have a second gear syncro that has seen better days. So im interested to see what options i have.
  10. This is my dream to, but i would be happy with 200rwhp
  11. If your running tripples i wouldnt have thought fuel economy would be a priorty. I know the name does suggest that it advances the timming which it does but only when cruising on a freeway. If you dropped off the vacum line while doing a qtr mile run it would make absoulity no difference in performance. hope this helps Edit: spelling
  12. That sounds like a good option, I will have to look into that. However I am no engine expert, and I will be paying for labor on all these things which will probably cost a fair amount. But getting a different engine is certainly an option, thanks What do you think about replacing the cam with a stock one and replacing the carbys with EFI as a solution? Do you see any benefits or problems with doing so, compared to replacing the engine? Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it I think at the end of the day you might find yourself with more problems trying to strip the motor back. Lets say the you drop the carbies off and drop in a stock cam. You still have a high compression motor with head work that a stock ecu might not know how to manage it fuel wise. 280 ecu is old compared to todays stock ecu's. This is just in theory but when you start paying some one in labour to do the efi, cam and de-compress the motor thats going to cost you a pretty penny. I would say more than paying some one to do a engine swap. The swap is very simple for someone with experience in Z's. look to pay around $500 to do the swap, I wouldnt pay anymore for a 1-2 days work. Dont be afraid of swapping motors it isnt a big job and is a lot less work than pulling a motor apart. Again if you cant do it yourself source a realible mechanic through your Z club that can be trusted. If you went with plan A the tripple's you would get some money for but the cam i personally would not buy it but thats just me. I cant see why you couldnt fetch $2000 or $2500 for the complete motor but you might have to wait a little. What ever you decide it is going to be a really nice Z thats for sure.
  13. Hi steve, i think your best option would be to dyno that current setup and then take that motor out and sell it complete with the tripples. Then your best bet would be to buy a L28 with efi and get it freshened up. I would think you would probably fetch around $2-$2500 depending on dyno figures for the current motor. By the time you buy and freshen up a EFI L28 you should still have lots of change.
  14. what size wheels would you say is on the above car?
  15. im serious about the grinder, but i wont be doing it as i dont have a clue. He uses some lazer cut disc that runs through it like butter. All over in a split second. If i had the spring compressors here i would have had the whole job done in 2 hours. Also the guy that is cutting knows his stuff so i dont recommend this if you dont know exactly what your doing. I had to check twice to see the above car was a 2+2.
  16. thats definatly made my mind up to lower my rear. Time to get the grinder out
  17. i think this one looks the goods if your willing to spend another $500 on a manual tranny. If you are handy you could fit this yourself and have a nice daily driver for under $7500 give or take. http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/DATSUN/260Z/details.aspx?Cr=2&State=Victoria&R=5396993&state_id=82&__No=0&__N=4294966615+82+834+285+257+408+4294966410&silo=1003&distance=25&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_ImageCount_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime%7C1&trecs=3&__Nne=20&seot=0&PriceMax=10000&__sid=117D6FFC1317&Model=260Z&Make=DATSUN
  18. ok thanks for your honesty, now i have an old l28 here so i have to decide wether to fix that or seriously consider your motor.
  19. hi, once you take away the ITB's and also the Wolf ECU how many KW's do you think it would be at the wheels on stock original 240 carbs. Also the fly wheel your keeping was that balanced and lightened also.
  20. any links or date?
