  1. ahhh..that quote was from a girls diary I read many years ago (still in sec school) made me crack up then as it does now.
  2. I don't really mind... we have seen a million of these restorations start then within a few months come up for sale...just wanted to give my 2c worth... you can either pickup the coin or just walk on by!
  3. Goldfish jumping around on your keyboard Lurch?
  4. Hey Stav, Welcome back! Its been a while since I've seen you and your zed... I was wondering what happened to you. Whats your car need to get going?
  5. You'll find alot of peoples cars are on going projetcs; drive as you do a partial restoration. Doing the rust in sections is a good idea. Sometimes it's good (provided you have the funds) to get a daily run around car like some small 4 cylinder thing to keep you mobile while work is carried out on the zed. If Rob can do the work that would be good...but nowadays alot of these panel beaters are only good for swapping damaged parts and panels with Tiawanese copies and re-spraying. Gone are the days of the repairer who can fix a damaged panel. I know most of it is because time is limited and panels arent worth repairing but just means older cars like ours would be written off and scrapped.
  6. Wayne is right, it was to clear the steering linkage in a 280ZX. If you remove it, you will have to find the threaded part to install in the block once you remove the alloy extension. The one in the alloy block is way too long so try and find a short one before you remove it or else you won't be able to run your engine.
  7. Switch must be in the wrong hole. Take a pic if you can and post it up.
  8. Are you sure you have the right switch connected? Get a mutlimeter, set it on diode check so you can hear a "beep" when you touch the probes together then go under the car while the gearbox is in reverse and check each switch on the gearbox till you get a switch that goes "beep". From memory, some late 280ZX boxes have a few switches; find the one that closes contacts when in reverse.
  9. +2 with the Photoshop; if it was real, it would be on numerous zed sites with quite a few pics...
  10. I still do it from time to time...on a temp basis. It's good to hear you still have the zed. From memory it was a nice clean original example. Hope you can find the time to restore it though!
  11. I have a spare steering column covers...I'm sure they were all the same through the years.
  12. This zed will be one of the very few who can prove that it is a "rust free Zed!" Should be around longer than us!
  13. I was thinking you guys would've had to change it to "Paddle to Buxton Burger".. we got some serious downpours around my area..
  14. Just a heap of cutting and pasting...We need to find out his/her details..
  15. That Bennypars is one busy MF.....
  16. Not sure if you remember, I was the RACV mechanic you called when your zed left you on the side of the road... I think it was on Hotham St near Inkerman....around 3 years ago. I kept seeing it parked near the rail crossing where all the little shops are.
  17. Too much spare time at work with photoshop heh Sulio? heheh..good one though..
  18. Welcome Will....not sure if you have read much in other threads, but unless you are a panel beater/mechanic/spray painter/autoelec/machinist etc sometimes its a good idea to save the $$$ and buy a good stock example and go from there..Usually un-finished resto's (with photo logs etc) are a good thing..Save the cash and heartache and just enjoy the driving! Unless you like a challenge
  19. I was expecting to see pics of a rolling painted shell! ti ginete?
  20. Welcome... you don't happen to live / work around Elsternwick by any chance?
  21. Id be s@$t scared if that thing was coming towards me...looks massive on the radar..
  22. With my first 260 2 seater, with the throttle bodied L28 and 74' cam and a passenger (timing), 3.9 LSD and semi's on Burwood Hwy on a nice and clear afternoon, we had an approx time of 5.5 seconds as my speedo read just over the 100 Kph from a set of traffic lights. No wheelspin but just a tad of riding the clutch to avoid any. Then as I backed off the throttle, a Z32 twin turbo came from my left...I didn't even know I was running with him! Ha!
  23. I used the good ol Castrol GTX2..was ok for just general use.
  24. All engines use oil and water; it's just at what rate they do lose it at that can be worrying. Check carby linkages and give them a good soaking of spray oil to make sure nothing is stuck or sticking. Just a guess!
  25. I'd be checking the ignition system; cap, rotor and leads etc. If it happened all of a sudden, could be as simple as a faulty part.
