  1. Anyone heading to Bathurst over Easter from Sydney who could bring down a package? Roger
  2. Did you get my PM?
  3. Sounds like the new dizzy has a greater mechanical advance, do you know what the total advance is? The Nissan ones are stamped on the weights, ie 7 on each weight totals 14 deg advance. Roger

    L28 Rebuild

Should we run a pool on the final HP output? I'll start the bidding at 95rwkw. Roger
  5. Gav I could use one if you're willing to post. Roger
  6. Guess I need a bigger hammer then... Box came out of a 240 that was quite a mess, one rear quarter was early (no vent) but it had the toolboxes, gearshift hole had been cut forwards to accomodate this box so it wasn't original to the car, must have been raced at some point as all the lower arms were plated as were the engine mounts and there was a brace joining the rails together. When I got it the roof had been removed and the chassis number cut out so the original identity is probably lost forever. Roger
  7. This might seem like an odd question but I'm having trouble separating a Tailshaft and gearbox. The combo is a 5 speed with 3.3 first so probably a 280zx but it's connected to a two piece shaft. On my rally car the Tailshaft just slips out of the gearbox, the box looks exactly the same as mine but the yoke won't come out. It floats about 5-10mm but stops with a clunk. I've seen the early flange type 240 boxes but this isn't that. If anyone can suggest a solution that would be great as I don't want to damage it but can't see an obvious solution. Any advice appreciated. Roger
  8. Interested also.
  9. So finished off a great weekend here for the Zeds, Cardinaels first in Late Classic and third outright while we took out first in Early Classic and sixth outright. Unfortunately Siddens retired today with driveline issues and Knappstein hit a deer on stage yesterday otherwise there would have been a couple of more Zeds on the podium too.
  10. Good first day for the Zeds at THC with Cardinaels leading Classic Outright over Siddins in third and ourselves in sixth. More good news in the handicap comps too with Cardineals leading late classic and Siddins and us first and second in early classic. Fuel trouble has held Knappstein back and Goodwin had some driveline issues but both should be back in the hunt today. Now just need the rain to stay away. Roger
  11. Got one here, unknown history but yours if you want it, pm and we can arrange collection. Roger
  12. I've probably got some old used valves somewhere, what is the head diameter and the total length? Otherwise you can still buy new through the parts stores. Roger
  13. Leading the early classics and not too far off the late classics either.
  14. Another good year for the Zeds at Classic Adelaide this year with Knappstein coming second while I picked up third in the early classic handicap while Tim impressively grabbed third outright and I managed forth. Sadly Devenish suffered a failure that took him out of the running on day two while in the hunt. Both these guys are a fair chunk faster than me so got some work to do still. Only three weeks till High Country, just enough time to wash the car and try again.
  15. Roberto the average coil only draws 4-5 amps so shouldn't have any trouble drawing this through the stock harness. A high output coil might draw 6-7 amps but you can always test this with your multi meter (most have a current limit of 10 amps which should suffice). Check the current (with the engine running) as is and then check it with a power feed straight from the battery. If the direct battery connection draws more current then you might get some gain with a relay (or just a heavier cable) otherwise you're just adding complexity for no gain. Roger
  16. Good tip, will do.
  17. Thanks Peter, beat you to it and already had a go with the 252 this morning - strong enough to to hold the bobtail on so should be fine on the bumpers. Alfa actually supplied fibreglass brackets and they suggested sikaflex too so fingers crossed they should be fine. Did you sort out your handbrake? Roger
  18. Anyone got some advice on the best way to mount fibreglass bumpers? I have a set of Alfa Motorsport bumpers that come with mounts etc but there doesn't seem to be an obvious way of mounting the brackets to the bumpers. Anyone done this and got any advice before I just go nuts with some more resin? Roger
  19. From what you can see in the pics the wipe pattern doesn't look too bad, at least the cam is still on the pad and you can just make out the marks. I'm still guessing either recessed valve seats or a skimmed top surface but either way you should be able to measure up the required lash pad thickness as described earlier and buy some thinner new ones. Hard to pick a factory cam from aftermarket, most are regrinds anyway in which case the base circle is smaller meaning you should have more clearance not less, hence using a regrind cam (for more lift) would give you back some clearance on the adjusters. Roger
  20. As above there is something amiss with the geometry as you should be able to lower the adjusters enough to wiggle the rockers out. If you bottom out the adjusters and still have zero clearance then there is a problem and the only way to remove the rocker is to compress the valve spring (mind your fingers). The questions then is how did this evolve. It doesn't take much to alter the geometry so I'm guessing that either the valves have recessed into the seats over time, or someone has installed longer valves (or cut new seats that sit deeper into the chamber) or the top surface of the head has been skimmed to correct a slight warp as this then sits the cam towers lower. Or simply fitted lash pads that are too thick. Once you work out what has occurred you can get the clearance you need with a combination of shims under the cam towers and lash pads sized to give you the correct wipe pattern as described earlier. Or thinner lock nuts on the adjusters if you're desperate or a reground camshaft with a smaller base circle and higher lift.... Curious to know what size lash pads are in there. Roger
  21. yes interested.
  22. Thanks Gav, I'm looking to do an 89mm bore so yours might not be suitable going by your ad. Roger
  23. Anyone in SA got an F54 block that they would part with? Don't need the internals, just the block and main caps but would take a long / short motor also. Roger
  24. About to freshen up my gearbox but thought it might be a good time to change to a closer ratio so now seeking a suitable replacement. Mine is a 3.3 first gear and I understand some of the 260z boxes had a better 2.9 first so if anyone has one of these for sale please let me know. Thanks, Roger
